LITHUANIAN RADIO ON NEW 9555 KHZ
On May 7, 1999, Lithuanian Radio expanded its presence on
shortwave by adding about an hour of broadcasts daily via
Sitkunai shortwave station in Central Lithuania. Broadcasts
are compiled of different program segments of the 1st and
2nd Home Service programs, and are on the air Monday to
Friday 1330-1435 UTC, Saturdays and Sundays 1330-1325 UTC.
The frequency is 9555 kHz which hasn't been used by the
Sitkunai station for more than decade. Earlier this year,
the station installed a new 100 kW Continental 418F transmitter
which replaced the old 50 kW unit on April 1, 1999. The new
transmitter is now used for all SW broadcasts originating
from Sitkunai, i.e. daily 0900-1200 UTC (carrying Lithuanian
Radio), Sat 1330-1325 UTC (Lithuanian Radio), and
Sun 1200-1425 UTC (Universelles Leben and Lithuanian Radio).
Broadcasts before 1330 UTC are beamed at 259 degrees
via newly installed curtain antenna HR2/2/.5 (which
is non-reversable), but after 1330 UTC they are routed
to the old curtain antenna HR4/4/.5 and beamed at
79 degrees (the old antenna is reversable and can operate
both at 79 and 259 degrees). Because the old antenna
can not handle 100 kW of power, the output power of
the transmitter is reduced to 50 kW after 1330 UTC.
Broadcasts of Lithuanian Radio starting at 1330 UTC
are meant for listeners in Russia and belarus,
therefore the majority of the programming is not in
Lithuanian. The schedule:
Lithuanian: Mon-Fri 1330-1355, Sat-Sun 1330-1345
Russian: Mon-Fri 1355-1425, Sat-Sun 1345-1415
Belarusian: Mon-Fri 1425-1435, Sat-Sun 1415-1425
Lithuanian part is not a rebroadcast of the 1s/2nd
Home Service program, but is a special program
composed of features broadcast earlier on Lithuanian
Radio's 1st program.
Because of the new broadcasts, the morning block of
0900-1200 UTC has been reshaped and is now composed of:
0900-0930: Mon-Fri: relay of Lithuanian Radio 1st px (LR-1)
           Sat-Sun: selected programs from LR-1
0930-1000: daily: LR Foreign Service in English
1000-1030: daily: LR Foreign Service in Lithuanian
1030-1100: daily: selected programs of LR-1 or LR-2
1100-1200: Mon-Sat: relay of LR-1
1100-1110: Sun: relay of LR-1
1110-1200: Sun: selected programs of LR-2
The full time-frequency-power-beam schedule is now:
Daily 0900-1200 9710 kHz 100 kW 259 deg.
Sundays 1200-1330 9710 kHz 100 kW 259 deg.
Mon-Fri 1330-1435 9555 kHz 50 kW 79 deg.
Sat-Sun 1330-1425 9555 kHz 50 kW 79 deg.

NEW REGIONAL SERVICE OF LITHUANIAN RADIO
Lithuanian Radio (LR) introduced new regional
programming for Kaunas. It is broadcast on FM
104.1 MHz which normally carries LR-2. Regional
program replaces LR-2 Mon-Fri 0730-0800 and
1130-1140 UTC.
