Hi !
SSB means: Single Side Band, that could be (usualy) the "Upper" (USB) or
"Lower" (LSB). SSB (USB) is the main modulation technics used (also)
by maritime phone contacts. Maybe the fishermens only have SSB equipment
with no possibility to use AM, so they also use SSB for broadcast.

BTW, USB is mostly used by 'utility', and LSB for amateur radio stations below
10 MHz, above 10MHz amateurs also use USB (for their phone) operations.
