The BBC has provoked widespread anger with its decision to axe the UK theme,
Radio 4's opening music that has greeted early risers for 33 years.
Mark Damazer, Radio 4's controller, said the assortment of tunes from around
the British Isles, including Danny Boy, Men of Harlech, What Shall We Do
With The Drunken Sailor, Scotland the Brave and Rule Britannia, had "clearly
served its purpose".

But his decision attracted a host of complaints to the Radio 4 website, and
some protestors have even set up websites dedicated to saving the theme.
What do you think about the decision?

Is the BBC scrapping years of history for no apparent reason, or should the
station's controller be able to decide how he wants his listeners to hear?
Do you think the decision has been made - as some have suggested - on the
grounds of political correctness?

Does the theme really represent a patriotic outpouring, or are the
campaigners taking it too far?
