[HCDX] Log for 10 March



Brief session today, not too much of interest. 

Conditions didn't seem to good on 16m, even with the inverted vee. 

The 20m (14MHz) ham band was open to Japan for quite a time and to 

West Coast USA since the early afternoon. 

 

JAPAN 

Radio Japan/NHK World 17735 via Issoudun, in Japanese, 

1540 10 Mar. 2 males talking, one laughing at comments. 

Mellow classical piano music. (s5) - (S.Gilbert, UK) 

 

LIBYA 

Voice of Africa 17725 Sabrata, in English, 1545 10 Mar. OM 

talking about dictatorships, then full ID "Voice of Africa 

from the Great Jamahiriyah". Audio bassy, needs more treble. 

Brief music break and then ID again. Next speaker is YL 

talking about the 'great leader' Gaddafi ("You are the 

greatest man the world has ever seen", quoted in a letter from 

a Slovak listener supposedly!). ID once more. (s9+35dB) - (S.Gilbert, UK) 

 

SOUTH AFRICA 

Channel Africa 17860 via Meyerton, in Swahili, 

1524 10 Mar. OM talk then drumming music. Heard mentions of 

Africa and Somalia in particular and brief ID. (s8) -

SUDAN 

Sudan Radio Service 17745 via Sines, in Sudanese, 

1532 10 Mar. OM with rapid talk in Sudanese. Filler music 

of instrumental drum and then fleeting ID as "Sudan Radio 

Service" caught on mp3 recording. Talk continued in 

Sudanese. (s4 at best) - (S.Gilbert, UK) 

 

UK 

BBC World Service 17640 Ascension Isl, in English, 

1554 10 Mar. // 17830 but few ms between them giving a very 

slight echo. 640 is stronger than 830. BBC Africa News 

followed after 1600 time pips. (s7) - (S.Gilbert, UK) 



BBC World Service 17830 via Ascension Isl, in English, 

1529 10 Mar. Gareth (missed surname) mentioned BBC.Com and 

their Facebook page then into News at 1530. (s5 QSB) -

1551 10 Mar. // 17895 but much stronger. "Border Crossings" 

program, playing listeners pop music requests. (s9) -

1518 10 Mar. Pop music, Simply Red song and background 

information on Mick Hucknell. (s7 with QSB) - (S.Gilbert, UK)

1601 10 Mar. "Africa News Tonight" and sports news. (s6) -
