[HCDX] Commemorative transmissions from IBF, Turin Italy
Earlier today, 11/11/11, Giampiero Bernardini, gave us a tip for IBF's
commemorative transmissions from Turin Italy on 5000 kHz.
I don't think I have a hope of hearing them from my QTH, due to the
signal of WWV as well as local QRM, but I did go to a remote receiver
located in Cumbria, UK. They were heard at 2116 UTC from the remote site.
They are on the air and they are audible! Look for a male voice ID
every two minutes in Italian, French and English. There are no time
announcements or even time pips that I heard.
They were beaten up pretty badly, despite their fair signal, by Chinese
station BPM, a high-speed CW station sending a channel marker and a NATO
STANAG station all on or very near the frequency. QRM from the Russian
time station on 4996 could be cut out with filtering.
I remember when European Music Radio did their 10 watt test to the US
back in the late 70s. I picked it up at my QTH not 7 miles from here
clear as a bell, so such DX *is* possible. I just happen to be less
than 300m from a mediumwave array on 790 kHz which puts out all kinds of
crud.
Thanks, Giampiero for the tip, and I hope some of you may actually here
it here in the US and other places outside of Europe.
73,
Al Muick
