Agreed on the Uniden
CR-2021 analysis. It shines with a longwire or active loop.
Hi Kevin -
Appreciate your kind thoughts.
Couple more: Maganvox D-2935, powerful audio, narrow IF. Real ANT & GND
terminals, unlike 2010 ANT jack which takes a village of proctologists to
connect. 2935's here camp on HF SSB. Pressed into BCB service, they leap to the
task. Beautiful, rugged, reliable.
DX-400/Uniden CR-2021: BCB barefoot?
Stinks. Just stinks as did an old pal after eleven days in Newport, RI, 'guest
house' - wrapped in 'green blankets and plastic bags' - according to PD reports.
Connect antenna and ground to real terminals a la D-2935? Bursts into life.
Stylishly fat BFO knob & slim IF position means gross fun w/offset tuning,
sync det emulation, u.s.w.  RF gain switch most effective.
Zenith
T/O Royal Crown 1000/3000/70000? What is laughingly referred to as my mind can't
keep alla numbers straight. Drive bookies to drink. Royal Crown no doubt.
Lifelong friend acquired T/O from his father's State Dept. friend who took it to
embassy posts; rubbing snouts w/commies, tinpots, murderous cretins, gangsters,
in short words, diplomats. His father - one of very few Rhode Islanders
appointed judge despite lack of requisite crony ties and criminal history - gave
it to him. Played it loud. Blew a cap. Threw it at me -literally- ca. '84. "Fix
it? Keep it. Don' gots no use for it." Nice friends. Make 'em myself.

Alignment? Like pulling tick from brainstem. Simple in itself but prep work
croaks the patient. Forget it. Introduced DX'ng by Dr. C_________.*. Summered
w/family in Pt. Judith mid sixties. During family visits, he generously allowed
me explore other worlds with his T/O. A wise physician, also realized T/O's
wonders banked urge to stand on corners and scream at passing
traffic.
ICF-2001: Good set, still found at hamfests & e-bay. ANT
TRIM wheel useful, sorely missed on successors, as is continuously variable BFO.
One here constant
use.
