Going on the idea that Roy Barstow of the Cape DXers might have gone on a mini-DXpedition to Orleans, MA, I did a check of the band at 8 and 9 p.m. EDT (0000, 0100 UTC).
Spain on several frequencies was very good with 738, 774, 855, and 1044 quite loud.
783 had Mauritania loud at times but with more co-channel competition than usual. Spain and Syria are likely the others in the stew.
Best UK channels were 909 and 1215.
Higher band was lacklustre.
Nothing rare however. If Roy got to Orleans, he likely got much more.
