Re: [Swprograms] CCTV International CCTV-9

This is a great discussion! I would like balanced and fair reportage of
the news. I think that is only fair that we require that of a company
that wants to do business in this country----and not to feed us a load
of crap.

We have a difference of opinion here----but it is good to hear the
opposing viewpoint(s).

Something I am sure CCTV won't give us!

Isn't this a totalitarian approach to media -- a quid pro quo?
Shouldn't the "free markets" concept for ideas -- meaning TV channels --
hold sway in the USA even if it doesn't over there?
Should the US government block our access to RHC and CRI because Radio
Marti and RFA are jammed?
We shortwave listeners would howl in protest.
TV should be no exception.
If CCTV-9 shows up on Comcast in Atlanta (or anywhere else for that
matter) one should contact the local newspaper's TV editor and politely
tell them how a viewer should critically evaluate what they're seeing.
My two cents...

I have my cable line-up sheet here (this is Comcast)----they offer on
Selecto TVE Internacional, and on optional services the "Korean
Television Network" and "TV Japan".
On Digital Deluxe we have Newsworld International (I think that is
Canadian), and something called the International Channel. I don't have
Digital Deluxe yet but will be upgrading.
I think it is DirecTV that offers the Russian language programming, I
checked the schedule out, and most programs are offered that I watch in
Moscow (except one.) I told hubby that is the best way to "keep up" with
a foreign language if you listen to it constantly. I seem to retain more
of the television speakers, since some of the domestic radio talkers are
way too fast for me (especially the FMers!)
I will raise hell with Comcast if they start offering CCTV.
