developments

more alarming scenarios facing the earth from melting ice caps and 
rising sea levels to changes in global circulation patterns that 
control the weather resulting in devastation for the world's coastal

	Wed.: LINGUA FRANCA - looking at all aspects of language.  This week: 
"The New Zealand Accent : 2". What archival recordings of ‘old-timers’ 
tell us about the development of the NZ accent. The second of two 
programs presented by Dr Margaret Maclagan of the Origins of New 
Zealand English Project at the University of Canterbury, Christchurch.

	Thu.: THE ARK - curious moments in religious history that shatter the 
usual perception of the past and illuminate the present. This week: 
"Jesus and The Da Vinci Code". The figure of Jesus in the best-selling 
book The Da Vinci Code is not a familiar one - a survivor of the 
Crucifixion who marries Mary Magdalene, travels to the south of France, 
and has a child named Sarah. Is this bad history or just mad fiction?

portrait, prepared by Sharon Carleton, which includes tributes by

	Wed.: SMART SOCIETIES - What will it take to be truly smart in the 
21st century? In this education series young people and regional 
specialists discuss a range of issues from international education to 
creating liveable cities to being good corporate citizens. This week: 
"Episode 8 - Liveable Cities". A look at some of the challenges 
confronting many of the region’s mega cities. These include traffic 
management and air pollution to waste management and designing green 
buildings and smart cars. [T;%]
	Thu.: BACKGROUND BRIEFING - Radio National's agenda-setting, current 
affairs radio documentary program. This week: "Reconciling Canada". 
Indigenous people in Canada have constitutional rights and fare better 
than Australian Aboriginals in health and education. A formal apology 
for what happened in residential schools for Indigenous
children spurred moves towards reconciliation and compensation, as Tom 
Morton reports.

enjoying classical music for non-musicians, revealing basic concepts,
