Re: [Swprograms] Fwd: [Swlfest] The Fight for the Future of NPR

Actually AFRTS shortwave is likely gone... Diego Garcia is off (their am on 1485? Is off)Âand Guam is off too I think.

But if you think this is ok then it's ok by me. I work for a station that's an NPR affiliate but more so community radio then NPR

Hi Paul - both of these groups have long been about radio content;
back in the late 1990s, when I formed the swprograms group, shortwave
listening was still something that was easy to do and was the source
for most interesting radio (aside from NPR).

Frankly, the swprograms group was a lot more active back then as well;
nowadays there's very little message traffic here.

Truth be told, someone who was truly a legend in the shortwave
listening -- Tom Sundstrom -- flagged this for the SWLFEST group; and
I probably wouldn't have seen it otherwise.

And, to your later comment of NPR having "...nothing to do with
shortwave..." -- not exactly:Â NPR programming airs on AFRTS, which
still has a small SW presence; when AFRTS had a bigger shortwave
presence years ago, NPR programming could be heard quite easily on
shortwave!

As the owner of this list, I've occasionally allowed our topics to
drift beyond the narrow definition of shortwave for an interesting
"big picture" discussion about radio. If that bothers you, you're
welcome to unsubscribe at any time.
