** FRANCE. 11700 & 13695, Aug 29 at 0636, weak, `hollow` signals in
French as usual from RFI Issoudun. Not clear whether a strike affected
SW; one report about that via Mike Cooper, Aug 25: ``[WOR] indefinite
Radio France strike began today -- A strike of indefinite length has
been launched at Radio France. The trade union CGT Radio France says
negotiations are at a stalemate. The strike date was announced in
July. Stations are broadcasting this announcement:

"En raison d'un appel `a la greve depose par l'ensemble des
organisations syndicales representatives de Radio France contre la
strategie editoriale et les reformes menees par la direction dans un
contexte d'economies, nous ne sommes pas en mesure de diffuser
l'integralite de nos programmes habituels." {sic: accents stripped}

A major point of contention is that the French culture minister wants
to combine France Medias Monde, France Televisions, Radio France and
the National Audiovisual Institute (INA) into one organization with a
single chief executive officer. The plan would also close some radio
stations and cut jobs.

Forty-one of Radio France's 44 radio stations objected this spring to
a proposed new fall schedule. Employees say there have been no
discussions or changes to the proposed schedule, leaving them with the
impression that they are being ignored, according to Benoit Allard, a
technician at Ici Pays d'Auvergne quoted by France 3 Television.

mc`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2310)

** OKLAHOMA. 1210 kHz, Aug 29 at 0706 UT, KGYN Guymon with weather
forecast for Thursday, but it`s already Friday! Maybe only one day out
of date rather than one week the last time. Who cares about being
subservient to WPHT? Radio-locator says 22/10 kW ``non-direxional two
modes`` - whatever that mean; but night pattern supposedly pulled in
toward Philly (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 335 MCW kHz, Aug 29 at 0618 UT, BV, 25 watt NDB from
BatesVille AR, seldom heard; last logged March 7 (Glenn Hauser, OK,

No new financial report this week, not necessarily in US funds via

One may also contribute via money order or check on a US bank to:
Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 5850, Aug 29 at 0629, JBA carrier, presumably WRMI-12 on
exciter only? while CRR on 5800 & 5950 are normal; 5850 is habitually
the strongest, aimed thisaway (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 840, Aug 29 at 0704 UT, ID as ``WAMZ HD2 Louisville`` - and
then as WHAS. Unfortunately, WTFDA FMDB does not go into what`s on HD
subchannels; adding all that would be a monumental task; but now we
know about this one:
``WAMZ 97.5 LOUISVILLE KY 100.0 kW 205.0 m 38-03-50 85-43-52 HD 15F9
Country 97.5  WAMZ     97.5 WAMZ Kentuckiana's #1 for Country
KENTUCKIANA'S BEST COUNTRY 11921``
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 1000 kHz, Aug 29 at 0653 UT, some kind of countdown of
greatest moments in baseball? with crowds roaring, all over KTOK OKC
with `C2CAM`. Presumably WMVP Chicago with ESPN, mentions Q105FM,
presumably not an ID for this. WTFDA FMDB does not find any sports
format with that slogan. Only other sports/ESPN on 1000 is KSOO Sioux
Falls, 100 watts at night while WMVP is U4 50/37 kW, night pattern
with notch to the SW, but minor lobe to SSW. Then heard same
crowdroaring on 930, i.e. WKY OKC also with ESPN (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** U S A. 1110 kHz, Aug 29 at 0653 UT, dead air! from KFAB instead of
`C2CAM`; still dead at 0657, 0701 and 0707. No one`s awake at a major
clear-channel station in Omaha. If no one in charge is listening to
their own station, now can they expect anyone else to? And what about
``making good`` on missing commercials, or am I the only one who
noticed? Slight othersig audible underneath (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 1140 kHz, Aug 29 at 0652 UT, ``Real Country 100.1 FM and
1140 AM, KXRB``. It`s Sioux Falls SD, U2 10/5 kW and guess what? 100.1
is *not* a mere translator, but a hefty 2.15 kW KXRB-FM in Brandon SD,
which is just east of SxF closer to the IA/MN/SD tri-state area. 1140
night pattern has a notch to the SW, but a minor lobe toward Yankton,
and us? ND day pattern would be better (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 1180 kHz, Aug 29 at 0700 UT, KZOT ID,
``Bellevue-Omaha-Council Bluffs`, still cheating at night U4 25/1 kW.
Council Bluffs should be first as site is there in IOWA, NOT NEBRASKA
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 1200 kHz, Aug 29 at 0641 UT, ``Bólivar station 102.9`` is
atop WOAI; do they care? NRC AM Log shows KYOO Bolivar MO is a 1 kW ND
DAYTIMER! with K275CD, ``Joy 102.9``. Bólivar is just north of
Springfield. Since they pronounce it that way, is it not named for
Simón? Not exactly per Wikipedia:

``The name "Bolivar" was proposed by John Polk Campbell and his
brothers William St. Clair and Ezekiel Madison. It is named after
Bolivar, Tennessee, where their grandfather and Continental Army
Colonel Ezekiel Polk had lived. In the 1830s, Polk and Bolivar names
were locally associated with liberation. As such, Bolivar, Missouri is
an indirect namesake of Simón Bolívar.[9]`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
