Glenn Hauser logs December 20-21, 2025

Sunday, December 21 2025

** CUBA. 15140, Dec 20 at 2024, nothing but windhowl from RHC when
English should air; at 2027, 11880 is S6/S7 of clear dead air. SAWA
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 11760, Dec 21 at 0736, windhowl only at S8/S9, obviously RHC
transmitter forgot? to turn off much earlier; now accomplishes even
more; the OSOB! so also the SSOB. Something`s always wrong at RHC
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 15140, Sun Dec 21 at 1512, S9+15 of windhowl only; 11760
S8/S9 of Spanish, so perhaps Esperanto succeeded at 1600 on one of
them, unchecked. SAWA (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA [and non]. Xmas FM sound and lite shows in Enid, UT Sun
Dec 21 circa 01-02 UT: Singing Xmas Trees at NE corner of Oak &
Oakwood in former oil well lot, different visually from last years,
smaller `trees` and other characters, 89.5 $ tereo of very short range,
have to park right next to the fence for full quieting. A few songs,
as always including Chipmunx. Still have no idea who is responsible
for this. Maybe neighbors across the street know?

House in Pheasant Run golf course addition, on west edge of Enid off
Garland, this year is on 102.3 FM $ tereo, unfortunately with some hum,
especially noticeable during quiet passages. Maybe Trans-Siberian
Orch, or similar. We visited two other areas in NW Enid but didn`t
see/hear any FM sound. In between listened to 7570 WRMI The Mighty KBC
(Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA [non]. Finally someone else reports Xmas light shows with
music on FM: ``[FMDX-NA] New logging, Doug Smith W9WI via groups.io,
Fri, Dec 12 at 5:07 PM UT: Haven't been very good at keeping a log
since moving into the city, but I logged a new one this morning.
Really boring format. The sign in front of their house says Christmas
music to go with their light display. In practice, it's broadcasting
dead air on 91.3. Definitely NOT in compliance with Part 15. It's
pretty noisy at my house but clearly present. I live about a mile
away.

I see you can buy a 7-watt transmitter with telescoping antenna for
$ 76 on Amazon. My bet would be it's something like this. (The Amazon
listing claims it's legal under FCC 15.205. While I'm not a
communications lawyer, I don't see anything in 15.205 that comes
anywhere near authorizing unlicensed FM broadcasting at 7 watts. Then
again, this Amazon listing also says "...easily pushes a clear signal
up to 1 feet away, which is much larger than a church campus." )
-- Doug Smith W9WI, Nashville, TN`` (WTFDA via Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

But Peter Laws , ex-Okie, replies: ``47CFR15.205 basically says
"you can't operate an intentional radiator in any of these frequency
ranges" ... and since the FM broadcast band isn't listed in 15.205 and
since that's where the device operates, then it's all good! Except (as
you all know) you don't get [to] pick and choose which parts of the
regs you want to comply with (centi-billionaires excepted, of
course).

15.209 covers how much power can be transmitted by an intentional
radiator in various frequency ranges. For 88-216 MHz, you can transmit
at 150 microvolts/meter at a distance of 3 meters. Then keep digging
because antennas and even feedline lengths are regulated.

I know that in the last ~30-40 years enforcement of regulations has
been ... lax ... but unless you run that 7-W transmitter into a dummy
load, I don't see how it can meet the spec. -- Peter Laws | VE[23]UWY

** OKLAHOMA. Ritmo 96.5: commercial for such a station seen on KTUZ,
Telemundo affiliate in OKC. What? Only Okies we hear on 96.5 are KECO
Elk City vs KRAV-FM Tulsa. See: https://unidosok.com/okc-ritmo/
WTFDA FMdb shows Ritmo 96.5 in OKC is a mere 250-watt translator,
K243BJ, but not a ``Relay of`` anything! How can that be? CHR format
yet in Spanish. Callsign is in radio-locator.com leading to: ``Éxitos
96.5``, Parent station: KRXO-FM (HD3), [107.7] a Tyler Media station,
address in Pittsburgh PA!? This claims it`s homegrown Okie, nothing
about PA: https://tylermedia.com/index.php/our-story/
BTW, there is one more 96.5 in OK which we never heard, per WTFDA
FMdb: KMMY, 3.4 kW in Soper - never even heard of that tiny town, just
west of Hugo (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** TURKEY. 5960.005, Dec 20 at 2340 quickcheck, S9+40 into UTwente,
VOT English not off the air, as Efsun speaks (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 9660.018, Sun Dec 21 at 1750, VOT English S9+30 into
UTwente, `The Pulse of Turkish Foreign Policy` about Erdogan`s visit
to Ashkabat, Turkmenistan, emphasizing cultural ties, not mentioning
Ottoman Empire. 1802 `Letterbox` with Cemre: 1) Mohammed Breyel, near
KL, Malaysia heard 9660 on 17 Nov. 2) Jayanta Charkobarty, India,
heard 6125 Dec 15. 3) Hidemtsu? Miyaki?, Japan, heard Chinese at 12 on
17775; November holidays? Nov 10: anniversary of Ataturk`s death. 4)
-- Kan?, China, heard Chinese at 1100-1127 6 August via UTwente. 5)
Siddartha Papajarjee, India, heard 9660 Dec 14 at 1730. 6) very
special: Marlene? Sharburn?, Auburn MA, has been listener since 1970.
Sent two handwritten cards, one a pop-up, also a Massachusetts magnet.
Cemre is overwhelmed by these kind gifts from a very long-time
listener. 1822 theme (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. Beacon bandscan Dec 21 at 0745 UT hits a couple not always
audible but now barely enough vs the HNL: 338 MCW kHz, RYN, Tucson AZ;
and 344 MCW kHz, JA, Jaxonvil FL (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

S9+12 into N9AZZ IL remote; much better than noisy St Louis SDR. I

UNIDENTIFIED. 1190, Dec 21 at 0659 UT, ``Greenville`` mentioned, so
part of a ToH ID? NRC AM Log has no 1190s CoL Greenville; lots of
Greenvilles in USA, main three are in NC, SC and TX. Any 1190s near
any of them? TX is too far from Dallas. NC is in Monroe, too far from
Greenville. No 1190 in SC. Strikeout. I was parked on 1190 trying to
ID the SS which had faded down (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
