Glenn Hauser logs December 25-26, 2025

Friday, December 26 2025

** BRAZIL. 11780, Dec 25 at 0755, token YL Spanish from RNA, only S3
here but much more readable than // 6180 which achieves S6.5 on the
meter (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 15140, Dec 25 at 2045, RHC windhowl only, 11880 deadair only
instead of English. SAWA (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 11760, Dec 26 at 0225, RHC windhowl only at S9; at 0244, 9710
dead air, S5/S8; at 0247, 5025 also dead air S9+5/15. SAWA RadioCuba
and RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** IRELAND. 5649 USB, Dec 25 at 0832, ATC contacts by YL op, probably
IDs but can`t catch it; selcalls, refers to other secondary
frequencies: 4651, 8906, 5598. All four are on North Atlantic Ocean
route, in EiBi: Shannon, Gander, Iceland, Azores, New York. On 4651,
only Shannon is listed, so maybe that`s what I have on 5649 (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** KOREAS [and non]. Re my query what `imnida` means as frequently
heard in Korean language, Alex Miatlikov replies, perhaps quoting some
reference: ``'imnida' is a functional word and the most formal, polite
conjugated form of the Korean verb 'ida', meaning "to be" (am/is/are).
It is used to make declarative statements, such as identifying or
describing something, and is commonly used in business, announcements,
broadcasting and formal introductions (e.g., Name + imnida). In a few
words, it acts as a polite sentence ending, indicating the highest
level of formality.`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MEXICO. 770, Dec 25 at Spanish station giving full address in
Monterrey NL, so it`s XEACH, 25/1 kW, R. Fórmula. I`ve yet to hear
KKOB since its downgrading, usually WABC atop (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MEXICO. 1090, Dec 25 at 0803, Spanish YL mentions Banco de México,
generally atop unusually despite downgraded KAAY. Seems to be
financial talk, letting it run as I doze in and out close to 0900,
never caught any hint of ID. XEPRS 50/50 kW Rosarito BCN is the major
one, but doubtful unless it`s not on tight NNW/SSE pattern to serve
Alta California with a null thisaway. That leaves XEHR Puebla 2.5/1
kW, or most likely XEAU Monterrey 5/0.5 kW, ``Milenio Radio,
Periodismo con Carácter, Milenio Noticias 10-90 AM`` per IRCA
Mexican Log. Day power? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. Warm Xmas leads to tropo TVDX. Map shows huge red blobs,
but I`m only getting Tulsa market decoding, while many UHF channels do
have BAD signals at least. On RF36 Dec 25 at 1637 UT is 17-1 TBN,
failing to ID explicitly but has to be KDOR-TV Bartlesville. TBN
website lists stations by location and call, but ignores channels!:
https://www.tbn.org/stations Rabbitears.info does not display stations
by channel; you have to guess which state and market to inspect.
Official high today was 77 F at 16 CST, but unofficially, 80 (Glenn Hauser,
Enid OK, WOR)

** PERU. 4810, Dec 25 at 0824, S8 JBA music, LSB required to minimize
the utehash on plus side. EiBI shows R. Logos starts at *0815, to
1500* & *2100-0300*. I do not hear it on earlier bandscans (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** UKOGBANI. 9670, Dec 25 at 1600, Xmas special from Texas Radio
Shortwave via Channel 292, but in this case transmitted from
Woofferton. S9+15/25 into UTwente, after finding no 250 kW signal
direct nor to Maryland SDR. Mostly music, occasional IDs such as 1632.
This Xmas Marathon has been going on for several hours, inconveniently
timed for North America, several one-hour programs one after another.
At 1700 change to Ruqui Radio in Spanish, mentioning that it`s 250 kW.
At 1800 signal strength surges with Channel 292 ID: guess they
switched back to own 10? kW but better into UTwente. At 1830*, 9670
seems to go off, but carrier still locked. Another Xmas Marathon,
mostly different programming, Dec 26 at 08-18 via 250 kW Woofferton:

** U S A. 486 kHz Fessenden event -- at 0713 UT Dec 25, I asked: ``Is
anyone getting 486 kHz, the Fessenden commemoration in Forest VA?
Around 07 UT Dec 25 I check a semidozen of the closest, not close
enough? Near Lynchburg, remotes in VA and NC, and no sign of it. As
previously posted:

Habs ergoogelt --- As in years past, Brian, WA1ZMS of Forest, VA will
have FCC Part 5 station WI2XLQ QRV starting appox. 21:00 UTC on Dec
24th for the now annual Fessenden Event. Transmissions will last for
at least 24hrs. A repeat will take place again on Dec 31st also
starting appox. 21:00 UTC and run for 24hrs. All transmissions will
consist only of the two Christmas songs claimed to have been played by
Fessenden himself on his violin, as well as a brief Bible verse.
WI2XLQ’s voice ID and transmission description is via computer
generated voice. Günter

The 2025 Fessenden Commemorative Transmission is scheduled take place
December 24 and 31, at 2100 UTC on 486 kHz from Forest, Virginia, in
honor of the “legend” of Reginald Fessenden. Fessenden was a
pioneering inventor known as the “father of voice radio,” and for his
work involving radio and sonar. Brian Justin, WA1ZMS, will control the
broadcast under a new Part 5 callsign of WQ2XQA. Reports of reception
can be sent via e-mail to wa1zms@att.net.

Finally at 0749 UT Dec 25, I get a JBA carrier direct on 486 kHz, or
is it a birdie? One reply, from Ron Howard at 0808:

``486 kHz. not heard --- Glenn - Distance between Forest, Virginia and
remote at Natural Bridge, Virginia is about 57 miles. No 486 kHz
signal, nor on any surrounding remotes (watch out for the
Harrisonburg, Virginia remote, which when clicked on, indicates
"Tauranga, New Zealand"?). Checked from about 0725+ UT. Ron`` (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2327)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2326 monitoring: confirmed Dec 25
at 1730 on SW Radio Gold, Germany, 3975.001+, S9/+10 into UTwente, not
on 6160.

WORLD OF RADIO 2327 for Dec 25 has been delayed. It should be ready by
1800 UT Friday December 26. Notifications will go out ASAP (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 5085, Dec 26 at 0247, this WTWW is off, while 5920 is on as
usual; believe 5085 was also missing last night, so bodes ill for next
WOR time, UT Sat 0400 on 5085 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 780, Dec 25 at 0739 UT, WBBM starts `StarDate` early, and
timechex after it are a few minutes fast. This automated replaying is
not really working (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 1530 kHz, Dec 25 at 0815 UT, WCKY has Spanish QRM, twice
plugging 104.9 & 95.1, never mind insignificant AM, which means it`s
KZNX Creedmoor TX, U7 10000/220, likely on day power, near Austin, not
El Paso (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** VENEZUELA. 4940, Dec 25 at 0752, music S7, stronger than usual,
from Estación 4940. Is usually on air all-night, and nothing else
audible now from SAm on 60m (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. Re: Glenn Hauser's persistent 810 het, from Frank
Merrill, Jr., IRCA: ``fmerrilljr Dec 24 #51108 --- Unless I missed it
the last couple of days, I'm not aware of it being solved yet.
However, I can CONFIRM that this is something real. I have no way to
measure frequencies, nor tell whether it's upper or lower, nor measure
the frequency, but tonight I was driving near Vaughn, New Mexico, and
that het was quite prominent on the car radio. So yes, IT IS out
there somewhere. The tone was lower frequency than the 1000-cycle
tones I remember so well from the days-of-yore when we had frequency
checks nearly every night from somebody. I'm surprised it's so hard to
solve. Is it possibly an unmodulated carrier? And no, I doubt it's
Santa Fe (and I have nothing with me saying if they're supposed to be
on at night, anyway). If it was Santa Fe, I would think it would have
been ID'ed VERY EASILY, months ago.``

I have never detected any mod on it, but it`s really too weak to be
sure. It was not being heard circa 0730 Dec 25. But there it is at
0255 Dec 26 on 810.53. KSWV 810 Santa Fe is U1 5000/10 watts (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2327)

UNIDENTIFIED [non]. Around 0500 UT Dec 25, I bandscanned 60m via
several S American remotes, and heard *nothing* unusual, hardly
anything but 4840 WWCR, 4940 Venezuela, 5025 Cuba. In case a dormant
SW transmitter could have been turned on for the Xmas eve occasion, or
at least an extended schedule. Another try New Year`s Eve, UT Jan 1,
before we give up (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
