Glenn Hauser logs December 28-29, 2025

Monday, December 29 2025

** BELIZE [and non]. 28414 USB, Dec 28 at 2215, V31ZA contacting
VA7DNW also heard, both shortly ``off and clear. QRZ.com: ``V31ZA
Belize flag Belize, KEITH SLATER, P.O BOX 76, San Ignacio, Cayo,
Central America, Belize`` with lots of pet photos including Colin the
Croc (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** BRAZIL. 11780, Mon Dec 29 at 0749, S5/S7 token English from RNA,
about samba-rock. Outro credits Ana Pimenta and AI research. Some
think `her` voice is also artificial. It certainly speaks English very
well. 0755 into same in Spanish with some Portuguese accent. The
10-minute foreign language segments are supposedly M-F only, so is
this a repeat of 0150 UT Monday, or a prepeat of 0150 UT Tuesday?
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** COSTA RICA. 28415 USB, Dec 28 at 2223, TI5RTZ calling CQ DX, then
working VA7KXK. QRZ.com: ``TI5RTZ Costa Rica flag Costa Rica, Robert
Tso Zhao, San Ramón Ave. 0 St. 2-4, Whatsapp +506 70170499 20201,
Costa Rica`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 1040 kHz, Dec 29 at 0745, whooper JBA under WHO. Editors
assume this is really from the only Cuban listed on 1040, R.
Mayabeque, Güines, 10 kW. Mayabeque is a rather obscure province just
each of Habana, west of Matanzas (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 11880, Dec 28 at 2023, RHC axually modulating in English,
much better direct than // howly 15140. By next check at 2057 already
dead air, and continuing for an hour or two. Something`s always wrong
at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 15140, Dec 29 at 1554, RHC modulating with windhowl, weaker
but clearer on 15230, and also on 11760, not 11880. And 13780 NF has
apparently been completely abandoned. SAWA (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 11880, Dec 29 at 2000, RHC dead air in English, S9/+10 into
Georgia SDR; and also dead on 15140 except for windhowl. Still so at
2027. SAWA (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2327 monitoring: ``Dear Glenn
Hauser, This morning’s reception in Japan. 17790 kHz, 2247 UTC (0747
Japan standard time). Your signal was a little weak. Best regards,
Atsuhiko Takezawa, Nagoya, Japan`` = UT Sat Dec 27 on WRMI toward S
America.

Confirmed Sunday December 28 at 2025 UT the 2000 on IRRS SW via AM
Italia, 1322.998, S7 into UTwente.

{subOptimum internet outage from 2039 until 2300, high winds? so no
checking for 2100 WRN Europe stream, nor SW Radio Gold, Germany, 3975
at 2230. I`ve never even tried to hear that direct, but this time at
2255, sure enough, no signal at all}

Confirmed Sunday December 28 at 2340 the 2330 on WRMI 9455, S9+20/25
into Georgia SDR.

Also confirmed UT Monday December 29 at 0014 on WRMI 9395, S9+5/10
into N9AZZ IL remote.

Also confirmed UT Monday December 29 at 0035 the 0030 on WRMI 7780,
S9+5/15 into S Texas SDR.

NOT confirmed UT Mon Dec 29 at 0033 the 0030 on WRMI 9455; without
notice, no longer on skedgrid either, instead `Viva Miami` But this is
something else, unID program talking about Alexander The Great, Paul
Revere, etc., and cut off at 0045 for new quarter-hour program,
`Mike`s Vintage Gospel` -- altho System K grid shows switch from 9455
to 7570 at 0045! Not. Somethings odd at Okee. Anyhow, WOR was still on
9455 an hour earlier and still on 7780 at this hour.

Confirmed UT Monday December 29 at 0230 on WRN North America stream

Confirmed UT Monday December 29 already underway at 0358 tune-in to
Area 51 via WBCQ 5130 -65 Hz = 5129.935, S9/+20 into Georgia SDR,
about 2 minutes into, so started circa 0356. This means I will get
chopped off SW as 5130v *must* cut to s/off at 0400 sharp, and so it
does, while webcast continues. Next:

2030 UT Monday SW Radio, Germany 3975;
0330 UT Tuesday WRMI 7780 to SW;
1400 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [also web-, phonecast];
1500 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [also web-, phonecast];
2100 UT Tuesday IRRS SW via AM Italia 1323;
0030 UT Wednesday SW Radio, Germany 3975;
0130 UT Wednesday WRMI 9395 to NNW;
2030 UT Wednesday SW Radio, Germany 3975;
2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW;
0030 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW;
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S;
1730 UT Thursday SW Radio, Germany 3975 & 6160.

** U S A. 780, Dec 29 at 0740 UT, ``NewsRadio 105.9 WBBM`` via
WBBM[AM] blows right past `StarDate` time, after ``traffic and weather
toge[a]ther on the eights``.

Guess what, when listened to `StarDate` later on another station,
there is a huge error in the Dec 29 episode; from script on website:
``Over the centuries, we’ve given all the visible stars many names –
proper names, catalog designations, and others. But only one star is
best known not by any of its formal names, but by its nickname: the
Dog Star. Its proper name is Sirius, and it’s the leading light of the
constellation Canis Major, the big dog – hence the nickname...`` ---
but Billy says URSA!! MAJOR as I heard him myself. Notified them
immediately. Did WBBM skip this ep because of that gross error? I
doubt it.

Guess2 what, the real WBBM-FM is on 96.3 with ``Rythmic CHR`` format,
but only 3.3 kW ERP. 105.9 is really a totally different station,
WCFS-FM, a hefty 4.1 kW ``in`` Elmwood Park. Axually, per WTFDA FM DB,
both are transmitting from exactly the same coördinates, the Willis
ex-Sears Tower, in The Loop, never mind Elmwood Park. 105.9 mounted 8
meters higher on the tower at 482 m HAAT vs only 474 for 96.3. Without
the antennas, Willis is only 1451 feet = 442.3 meters above ground.
482m = 1581 feet above average terrain, which must be pretty flat in
Chicago.

780, originally U1 50/50 kW, was degraded some years ago to only U1
35/42 kW -- yes, increased power at night, due to a site change,
consolidating with another AM station: ``the station's transmitter —
diplexed with sister station WSCR [670] — is in the nearby suburb of
Bloomingdale`` in DuPage County, 25 miles NW of downtown Chicago --
but not good enough, with a CP now for U1 43/43 kW, so they won`t even
have to bother with any SR/SS changes. Elmwood Park is the first
suburb WNW of The Loop, pop about 25K. Reception here varies widely
from VG to VP depending on auroral conditions and whether daytimer
KSPI Stillwater OK still be on air.

Other 780s rarely heard here; Allan Weiner does his best to keep WBBM
out of Maine. But beware of WJAG Norfolk NE, L1 1000, on air from
Chicago SR to Chicago SS, branded as ``NewsTalk 780 & 105.9``, in this
case really a translator K290AT! (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 1360, UT Mon Dec 29 at 0640 UT, I check a remote within
local S9+35 range of KHNC Johnstown CO, a week after my unID with
pseudo-scientific stuff - i.e. the K0LTO one at Little Thompson
Observatory, Berthoud CO. Indeed it`s a discussion of flat-earthers,
etc., certainly type of programming chex. 0700 no ID break, but on to
``episode 10, it`s time to talk about energy`` - Tesla. 0703
interrupted for ID and commercial plugging website, podcast. Std.
disclaimer. And 0705 resumes with - yecch - Alex Jones instead. Online
program sked is incomplete, not showing this.

Strangely, another remote nearby at Fort Collins gets nothing on 1360
or close frequencies but is sending/picking up a slow Morse code
marker as QST QST QST DE N6GN N6GN N6GN (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** VENEZUELA. 28444 USB, Dec 28 at 2205, YV5SSB in a contact, and at
2217 repeating nothing but his call over and over. QRZ.com: ``YV5SSB
Venezuela flag Venezuela, DX, Alexis "Alex" Deniz, Carrizal, Miranda,
Venezuela`` with long list of awards and certificates (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)
