Hauser, OK, WOR)

AM, Feb 12 at 1551, presidential pirate with clip of JFK inauguration,
S7/S9, off already at next check 1556. Maybe on and off for next hour?
but not followed further. Today should have been Lincoln. But turning
radio back on at 1853 still tuned to 9025, S8/S9 of JFK, 1855 a bit of
Sousa and back to FDR (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2334)
** ROMANIA. 11620, Feb 13 at 0708, German S4/S5: it`s RRI Tsiganeshti
at 0700-0730 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** SOLOMON ISLANDS. 5020, Feb 13 at 0724, JBA carrier vs slop from
5025 Cuba, no doubt SIBC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Thanks this week to Michael Beu, Austin TX, for a contribution via

says, ``Hey Glenn: Thanks for providing a valuable resource for DXers.
Have a great 2026``

** VANUATU [and non]. 7260, Feb 13 at 0713, R. Vanuatu is back here! I
bandscan past here every night, and now no JBA carrier on 5040. S4/S6
of talk presumed Bislama, keyword giveaway ``b`long``; 0715 mentions
Vanuatu. 0759 sounds like French, music. So just a few hours after I
record WOR 2334 mentioning that it`s still on 5040 instead of 7260 or
9960 where we can hear it much better, immediately outdating my item!
I figured Ron Howard would notice this too, and he did but not until
0725 via NZ remote, so I beat him to it, hi! He points out that Feb 15
is celebrated as John Frum Festival of the cargo cult. Meanwhile, NZ
on 13755 is JBA carrier instead of often standout signal (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)
** VENEZUELA. 4940, Feb 13 at 0722, song with harp, S9+20, Estación
4940, much stronger than usual JBA, always there overnight, AFAIK the
*only* S American on 60m at this hour. Don`t you believe the Aoki list
which misses this completely but shows instead the only 4940 as R. San
Antonio, Perú, which is long gone but sometimes assumed by
list-loggers (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
UNIDENTIFIED. 6016.78, Feb 13 at 0717, S6/S8 of dead air, or is it
just barely modulated? Again suspect Colombian pirate Organización
Radial El Prado close to signature split frequency as also logged 48
hours ago on 6016.74. Need to check before 0200, its original closing
time (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
Checking some of the DRM tests for World Radio Day, via remotes:
15255-15260-15265, Feb 13 at 1545, S9/+10 into TWR Cyprus SDR, YL talk
at first in unknown language, then my brain lox onto Portuguese. Math
lessons, alternating with bits of music. Solid reception but rather
lo-fi, 7.50 kbps; labeled Education Radio. At 1558 switch to German
about DRM and off 1559*. This one scheduled as: ``15:00–16:00 15260
kHz Europe Woofferton A928A Encompass Directional antenna (114°)``
21600-21605-21610, Feb 13 at 1600, no signal into TWR Cyprus, but at
1627 try TWR Jo`burg RSA, and there it is S9+10/20, strong signal
visible but not audible, rx overloaded? The other RSA SDR at 1632 has
S3 signal, inaudible, then audio cuts on and off, labeled as
``Education Radio``. This hour was: ``16:00–17:00 21605 kHz Central
and Southern Africa Nauen Media Broadcast Directional antenna
(167°)``
15305-15310-15315, Feb 13 at 1700, into Jo`burg, French S9/+10,
labeled Education Radio, 14.52 kbps. At 1709 switch to Spanish about
DRM from Great Britain. But this is: ``17:00–18:00 15310 kHz East
Africa Nauen Media Broadcast Directional antenna (150°)`` Cuts to
silence much of the time. Label alternating languages including:
``Esta transmissão especial por ocasião do Dia Mundial do Rádio da
UNESCO é transmitida pela Media Broadcast –
1 xHE_AAC (1002) Education Radio EEP Data 14.52 kbps
2 (1003) Edu Textbook EEP Data 6.44 kbps`` - the latter not observed.
15630-15635-15640, Feb 13 at 1907, no signal into RSA; Sao Bernardo,
Brasil sees DRM less than S7 but no audio, labeled as Education Radio,
7.50 kbps; cutting in & out: 1911 geometry lesson in English; 1932
French cutting on and off. This is: ``19:00–20:00 15635 kHz Eastern
Gulf of Guinea Woofferton A912 Encompass Directional antenna
(170°)``
17565-17570-17575, Feb 12 at 2020, Brasília displays S9+10 but no
sound. ``20:00–21:00 17570 kHz Brazil and parts of Latin America
Ascension A21 Encompass Directional antenna (265°)``
Overall, I am not impressed. Requires *work* merely to tune in, and
then you can`t necessarily get a solid signal. Give me an analog
anytime, which will remain audible/readable even when fading (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)
