** COLOMBIA. In NRC IDXD, ed. Bruce Conti replies to my log of HJAT on
1100.29: ``The high offset of this transmitter has a long history,
reported at 1100.3 in the Sept 18, 1994 edition of IDXD - DX News
V61-30``
Also about the 1309.67 offset of HJAK I also reported, Bruce replies:
``Another Colombia offset with a long history, 1309.678 in the old
online mwoffsets list, last updated October 2014`` (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)
** CUBA. Replies to my comments about RHC and its website:
https://www.radiohc.cu/programacion/
``The website calendar that link above shows has been a work in (not
much) progress for some time. If you like puzzles, you can try to play
some of the English-language podcasts being archived here....
ENGLISH-LANGUAGE PROGRAMMING / February 15, 2026 - Radio Habana Cuba
https://www.radiohc.cu/en/podcast/english-language-programming-february-15-2026/
In fairness, Cuba has no monopoly on user-challenging shortwave
websites, but they have not stopped producing content, maybe just
recalibrating what's terrestrial and what isn't. The Spanish language
service had already been using the tag line "Cuba Online" for a while.
The new website configuration is aiming at archiving several days of
programming. I don't objectively know that terrestrial is being
discontinued, but archiving days at a time could prove to be a plus
under the circumstances. ps - Ivoox is a podcast/radio app that is
extremely popular in Spain.
I grew up with RHC in a manner of speaking - even before I knew a word
of Spanish, the music was already speaking to me. Willis Conover's
jazz programs had a similar effect on listeners in numerous countries.
So yeah, it's painful to watch the station's problems, but it is the
least of their worries at the moment. --Bill Tilford``, Indiana.
``Somehow I doubt that the picture on this page
https://www.radiohc.cu/en/about-us/
is anything more than a repurposed stock image.
As I have said before -- I have really deep feelings about RHC.
Setting aside all the political ramblings, they have great potential
to tell Cuba's history, to tell Cuba's story. The same goes for R
Rebelde and R Progreso. The represent a soft power, propagandising,
but doing so in a way that can't help but enamor one to the people and
the culture of Cuba -- and almost in a sense binding those feelings to
their struggles and wish for freedom - a freedom in their terms -- not
those of the USA, Russia or China.
The economic crisis has been just another nail in a coffin hand
crafted by el blocqueo. Nonetheless, if sacrificing the voice of RHC
means electrical power and the like for the Cuban people, the so be
it. Tony Pavick`` in BC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
