** CUBA. 11760, Sun Mar 8 at 1501, RHC with Esperanto theme and
opening, still giving long-gone first time of 0800 Sunday on 6100;
this, the second one and third time not copied, but likely all wrong
too. Anyhow, this confirms that as a Running Dog of Yankee
Imperialism, Cuba has indeed switched from EST to EDT of UT -4, since
Esperanto had been at 1600v UT. Must keep in step with the gusanos in
Miami! Otherwise I have not heard a live timecheck yet on any Cuban
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** TURKEY. 9660.018, Sun Mar 8 from 1744, VOT with `Letterbox`,
S9+15/25 into UTwente. Very little intro by Cemre, right into mail: 1)
Mr --? Albanese, Palermo, Sicily, heard Italian on 11970. 2) Anatoly
Klepov, Moscow, weekly report, wants March QSL. 3) Chris Marbov?, Port
Alberni BC; had Chinese QRM to 9610. 4) Mr Jian? Chiang?, Guangzhou,
again mispronouncing ou as oo instead of oh, a 14-year-old Cantonese
or was it 40? 5) Shivanda? Pol?, secretary of a radio club in W
Bengal. At 1757 OTH clikQRM starts, worse on lower side, diminished
but not banished by USB tuning. 6) Maurizio --?, Rome with ham call.
7) A physical letter! from Annan? Bayn?, president of SWL club in
India. Ran a quiz about VOT, what`s it called in Turkish, how many
langs on SW? was 25, now 26 with Uzbek, and about that lang. Cemre
says they read *all* the letters and emails on the program -- which
means they don`t get much! 8) Mr Francis Waller?, Dublin, Ireland.
1808 ending, contact info, 1809.6 theme (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

help. Sheldon says, ``I have to say it was really neat to hear WOR
coming over CKUT's airwaves! We are going to re-record our IRR show
today and post it on our YouTube channel, even though it didn't air on
CKUT. Sheldon Harvey, Greenfield Park, Quebec``

** VIETNAM [non]. Re my 1480 log mentioning KNGO Dallas: Ngo is a
common? name, or once well-known, as in Ngo Dinh Diem or rather, Ngô
Đình Diệm, a president of Vietnam South. But what does ngo mean as a
word? Google translate says `dainty` without any accent, but with the
circumflex, means ``corn``. Now we know. There are websites trying to
explain exactly how to pronounce his full name. It seems that the
crossed-D is like English D, while the plain D is more like our J - or
``dj``. There is huge info about him at
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ngo_Dinh_Diem -- but does KNGO Dallas
callsign allude to him, to dainty, or to corn? The 1560/1480 website
https://vietradio.com/ displays the ID in VV but not copyable with all
the diacritix: Dai Phat Thanh Viet Ngu but Google translate transforms
it to: Đài Phát Thanh Việt Ngữ (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
