** CUBA. 5025, Mar 29 at 0630, S9+25/30 of dead air, electrical and
fuel wastage from R. Rebelde. Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. 11760, Mar 29 at 0637, RHC S9+28 of deadair. Something`s
always wrong at RHC; no others found with 9710 Vaticanned (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. 15140, Mar 29 at 1424, RHC in Spanish S9+20 and even better
on 11760. BTW, have not run across legacy 15230 frequency in many
weeks of random tuning; nor 13780 which was a new frequency briefly
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** NEW ZEALAND. 13690, Mar 29 at 0635, RNZP S9+10/25, VG
ex-13755/11725, sounds like BBC on 9915 but not // or way out of synch
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** NEW ZEALAND. 7440, Mar 29 at 1352, RNZP JBA S6/S7, ex-7390. Still
inadequate here but not for us anyway and will only worsen into our
summer. Sked 13-17 with only 50 kW on 325 and/or 35 degrees (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)
** SPAIN. 15390, Mar 29 at 1422, checking out REE`s new A26
frequencies, this one continues to be AWOL on the African beam,
ex-AWOL 17755 for months. 17715 is S9 and SSOB for S America, even
better than 15500 for NAm S7/S9: at least that`s an improvement over
9690 in B-season which was way too low on an all-day path even in
winter. 15520 for ME is JBA S5, but might be needed for us at the next
transmitter failure (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** TURKEY. 17620, Mar 29 at 1308, VOT`s NF for first English of the
day from 1230, only JBA S3/S4 here despite aimed thisaway beyond W
Europe. Could not be sure it`s really in English. No doubt the five
English repeats will continue claiming to be at 1230 on 17620 (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)
** TURKEY. 15320, Mar 29 at 1425, ME music, suspect Turkey NF, also at
1445, and at 1500, 5+1 timesignal, news. Yes, HFCC shows TRT/VOT in
Turkish at 1300-1600, 250 kW, 310 degrees also thisaway (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)
** TURKEY. 11660.019+, Sun Mar 29 at 1645, VOT English on new A29
frequency and time, for S Asia, but good S9+25 backwards into UTwente,
and the first convenient chance for me to monitor weekly `Letterbox
Programmme`. It had been airing right after the news but not any more,
or at least not today. Efsun with her careful but hard-to-follow
accent lasted until 1648, then `Geoeconomix Diary` read by Cemre,
about the IMF and World Bank. 1657 multi-lingual ID filler reel. 1659
classical music from Borodin`s Polovtsian Dances! 1703 finally
`Letterbox` theme and Cemre opening; first gives new A26 English
schedule, but forgets to include the final repeat at 03 UT. 1706
finally to letters: 1) Annan? --? Bayn?, of SWL club in India about
last week`s contest, but first he`s against the war in Iran, praises
VOT for ``impartial`` news about it. The answer to the contest was
somewoman whose name I can`t possibly copy, apparently a celebrity in
Turkey, a dietician? and champion free-diver, explaining what that`s
about; Of 58 entries, 55 got it right [and why should we care...?]. 2)
Mr --? Nakamura, Kyoto, Japan, heard 9660. 3) Jayanta Chakraborty, New
Delhi, wrote thrice this week; is economist; IDing a song for him,
logged Russian broadcast. 4) Jakov? Lizh?, Czech Rep. 5) Nicolai?
Rossi?, Montevideo, Uruguay, heard Portuguese on 7280. 1721 ending,
1722 theme (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U K [non]. 9915, March 29 at 0645, `Weekend` on BBCWS, good direct,
sounds like same voices on NZ new 13690 but not // or at least not
synch. 06-07 is the only A26 hour of BBC on this legacy OOB
frequency, 125 kW, 65 degrees from ASCENSION (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** VATICAN. 11815, Mar 29 at 0638, RCC chanting, Slavic lang,
S9+20/25, and // 9710 at 0643. In A26 this is Ukrainian liturgy
Sundays only at 0605-0700, supposedly aimed 54 and 62 degrees, nowhere
near sidewise thisaway yet VG (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
UNIDENTIFIED. 9236.0, March 29 at 0641, S8/S7 of dead air with JBA
clix every trisecond. One of those long mysteries, what is this? Noise
level barely low enough to audiblize the clix. Last logged Nov 17,
2025. Among other carrier mysteries always ending in -6 (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)
