Hard-Core-DX.com: DXing on the beach with a short vertical

DXing on the beach with a short vertical

Monday, July 22 2019

Spent some time this afternoon on the ocean beach at Chappaquiddick Island, Massachusetts, with an XHDATA D-808 portable rcvr and a 15-foot vertical wire.

I was amazed to hear Shannon Volmet on 5505 kHz USB at 2028 UTC, almost 4 hours before local sunset.

Also VMW, Wiluna, Western Australia, on 6230 kHz USB at 2102, more than 3 hours before my local sunset.

Also decent sigs from Voice of Vietnam, 9730 kHz shortly before their s/off at 2157, and CNR2, China on 9820 kHz at 2200. I’ve had trouble hearing both of those lately from either home (SAL12 antenna) or the house here on Martha’s Vineyard (pennant antenna).
