Glenn Hauser logs August 31-September 1, 2020

Wednesday, September 02 2020

** CUBA. 6100, Sept 1 at 0612, RHC English is S9+30 but JBM; 6145 is
S9+20 but sufficiently modulated. Last night`s parity is long-gone.
Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 13740, Sept 1 at 1837, RHC Kriyol at S9+10/20, // 11760. And
not on 15140 where it is supposed to be with 13740 off air between 14
and 21, 11760 off between 18 and 21. Something`s always wrong at RHC
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NIGERIA. 7254.9v, Sept 1 at 0610, again zero signal from VON to
begin another month. It`s been so sporadic that we do not yet draw any
conclusions of a permanent QRT. Besides,

11769.894, Sept 1 at 1519, S6 VP signal in African? language, typical
VON offset, vs. RHC 11760 splash out to plus/minus 20 kHz. 1859
recheck, still a JBA carrier. Wolfgang Bueschel agrees:

``11769.894 kHz, Voice of Nigeria from Abuja, requested as Igbo
service. Talk by male presenter. At 1620 UT on Sept 1st. Proper S=9+30
or -46dBm powerful signal into Europe today. [selected SDR options,
span 12.5 kHz RBW 15.3 Hertz] (wb df5sx, wwdxc BC-DX TopNews Sept
1)`` and four days earlier:

``11769.893 kHz, Voice of Nigeria from Abuja, probably in English. At
1804 UT on Aug 28. Sideband splash signal disturbtion of S=9+35 or
-39dBm powerhouse, from adjacent CRI Beijing in Germany, via big bcast
center in Kashgar, western China {East Turkistan}. Noted in Liverpool
England and Netherlands Perseus server-net. [selected SDR options,
span 12.5 kHz RBW 15.3 Hertz] (wb df5sx, wwdxc BC-DX TopNews Aug
28)`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 9830, Aug 31 at 2200 and still 2220, no signal from VOT
English to us. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler.

9830, Sept 1 at 2200, VG S9+40 VOT signal at UTwente as YL yet again
opens this broadcast claiming it is at 1230 on 15450. Now it may well
be necessary to do one English broadcast per day at mid-afternoon, and
play it back for all the subsequent English times. But they should say
so, so at least the sign-ons make sense. Of course, we`re lucky they
are even uttering the correct current season time and frequency for
the original. Something`s always awry at Ankara (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2049 monitoring: confirmed UT Tuesday
September 1 at 0100 on WRMI 7780, VG S9/+20 at UTwente.

Also confirmed UT Tue Sept 1 at 0330 on WRMI 5800, VG at TWR Bonaire
S9+5/15. I leave it on in the background but notice about 0350 that
music is playing! ME-ish world music fill, so for some reason dumped
out of this new WORtime well before it finished. Rarely does a week go
by without some problem with WOR playbax, so we are fortunate with
redundancies.

Next:
2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW
0100 UT Thursday WRMI 7780 to NE
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5850 to NW & 5010 to S NEWs

** VANUATU. 11835 & 7890, Sept 1 at 0614, R. Vanuatu X 4 and X 3 are
both but JBA carriers tonight. Propagation disturbed (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 711.0, Sept 1 at 0616, JBA carrier while no TA`s are
audible, not even 621 altho there is HSNL from OKC area which is being
flooded by up to 8 inches of rain in some suburbs. But it`s strong
enough to get a rough DF separable from 710s, as ENE/WSW, which rules
out Cuba, and probably too clockwise for Morocco either. What
Unitedstatesians are along that axis? Surely not the biggies WOR NY or
KSPN LA; how about KBMB Black Canyon City [Phœnix] AZ? There is no
longer a 710 in Sonora. XEDP in Chihuahua used to be off-minus by an
odd amount but not for a year or two (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
