Glenn Hauser logs June 14-15, 2021

Wednesday, June 16 2021

** ANTARCTICA [non]. The annual BBCWS mid-winter special of greetings
to inhabitants of British Antarctic stations occurs every year on June
21 at 2130-2200 UT --- AND planned frequencies are tried one week
earlier at 2130-2145, i.e. Monday June 14. Dan Ferguson got the
frequencies, so I was ready for them via Pardinho SP Brasil KiwiSDR,
as there aren`t any in Antarctica; but this one gets LRA36 well.

7305, Woofferton cuts on at 2130 atop else? promo, news HL, 2132 The
Connexion, i.e. testing with what`s on BBCWS now; S9+15/25
6170, Ascension, S9+15/25 equally good
9505, Woofferton, S9+20 but somewhat lower mod, splash de weak 9500?
6035, UAE no signal

Direct to OK, 9505 JBA carrier; 6170 & 6035 nil, 7305 nil or JBA
carrier. They all went off circa 2145*. Something is still on 7305;
Aoki shows CNR1. It was not a problem in SP while BBC was on. 9500 QRM
would also be CNR1. 73, (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 6165, June 15 at 0629, RHC English is S9+20/30 but JBM; 6100
is S9+10/20 and merely undermodulated. 6060, 6000 and 5040 are all
off. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 13635 & 13765 approx., June 15 at 1417, F# FMish spurblobs,
only VP today out of RHC 13700-AM. Something`s always wrong at RHC
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** GERMANY [non]. 11850, June 15 at 0633, African language S9 but high
noise level. It`s DW in Hausa via FRANCE at 0630-0700 (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** KASHMIR [non]. At 1513 UT June 15 posted to the WOR iog:
``[WOR] 15170 IRRS Kashmiri --- 15170, from 1459 June 15, new IRRS
clandestine for Kashmir is huge signal into UTwente, low bass talker
with noise, music background, occasional English terms mixed into
Kashmiri? Now`s the time to hear it until 1530; Tuesdays only? Or
precursor of regular broadcast. Glenn Hauser`` A reply:

``Recording using the U. Twente SDR receiver. I was in a Teams meeting
but I could hear in the background what I think was the standard
Muslim greeting at the start ("As-salamu alaikum"). If I can find the
time, I'll review the recording to see what else might be gleaned. --
Richard Langley`` --- then my full report:

15170, Tue June 15 at *1457.5, carrier on, S9+10 into UTwente SDR.
1459 fragment of song, quick IRRS sign-on ID; 1500 drumming and talk
in presumed Kashmiri, very deep bass voice, starting with Salaam
aleikum. Now up to S9+25. Occasional English words/terms/names as I
listen to the whole thing, such as: Hindustani, Kashmiri, Islamic
majority, Islamabad; 1506 law & order. There is constant music
background and mike noise, in the wind? Or being manhandled. 1510
Kashmiri Civitas -- as Kai Ludwig had suggested; with strumming. 1514
brief switch to a different voice with throat-clearings over and over,
and different background music. Soon back to deep voice. 1524 switches
to halting English but very hard to understand: social platforms,
decide future, want to be independent, decide as a nation, should be
part of Pakistan or independent state, people of Kashmir will decide,
autonomy, house of parliament, shopkeepers donating, Islam ready for
anything. 1526 back to Kashmiri; chopped off air at 1529*.

Tnx to Alfredo Cotroneo of IRRS for advance info June 14 about this
broadcast as in my previous report; it had been registered with HFCC
as starting last week on Tuesdays only, 79 degree azimuth from
somewhere. Kai Ludwig had replied:

``Remember "Radio Free Kashmir", which appeared in May 2020 and was
supposed to have a weekly broadcast on Sundays, 0330-0430 on 7355.
This was a shortlived venture, in fact I'm not sure if it really made
it on air at all. But it was reported as IRRS-brokered, too, and so
the question at hand is obvious. These broadcasts in 2020 came (or
were supposed to come) from https://kashmircivitas.com
Kai`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NIGERIA [non]. Altho heard Sunday June 13 for hours and hours on
9890, R. Yoruba via Woofferton was missing Mon June 15; and also Tue
June 16 when checked via UTwente at 2329. Meanwhile, explained June 15
with more about it from Alan Pennington, UK, on the WOR iog:

``Re: [WOR] [bdxc-news] New station broadcasting to Nigeria? This
station seems to use the name "Radio Ominira Yoruba" ("Radio Freedom
Yoruba" in English) on its Facebook page, set up on 3rd June.

On their Facebook page (Radio/Tv Ominira Yoruba) they posted yesterday
(14 June) that broadcasts will be every Saturdays and Sunday on 9890
(so not daily, despite HFCC registration?):
"Tunein to Radio Ominira Yoruba on Shortwave Radio 9890KHz Frequency.
Share this page with Yoruba citizens both Home and Diaspora. Listen to
us every Saturday and Sunday from 20.00pm to 01.00am Nigeria time on
(Shortwave Radio) Frequency 9890kHz SW."

So Saturday and Sundays 1900-0000 UT.

73, Alan Pennington, Caversham, UK`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 7475, June 15 at 0416, Station YHWH is S8/S9+5 into
Corinne, northern Utah SDR; tnx to tip from Eric Fetters-Walp in WA on
the WOR iog. Rick Barton, AZ, was also hearing it (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. June 15 at 0510 UT I posted to the WTFDA gg:

``90.1 KUCO-FM OKC is stuck with legal IDs looping every 34 seconds,
instead of WCPE overnight relay of classical music. First noted before
0540 UT June 15 and still going past 0600. A de facto MS DX test! Wake
up, tune in if you have a clear channel, record, as this may go on all
night. Also probably applies to satellites KBCW 91.9 and KCSC 95.9,
all three mentioned in the ID. 73, Glenn Hauser, Enid`` --- a reply:

Neal [sic], Thanks for this tip on the impromptu FM DX Test! (Hey,
wait—that’s MY gig!) I’m recording overnight on 90.1 and running RDS
Spy as well, hoping to log this one. Really appreciate the heads up.
Fingers crossed. Everyone bear in my mind that meteor scatter is often
best in the early morning hours up till about 10 AM. So don’t stop
rolling at sunrise. 73, Les Rayburn, N1LF, Maylene, AL 35114``

``Who`s Neal? This came from me, Glenn. KUCO tells me this ran until
morning shift at 1000 UT. ``The tone controller has died``, i.e. low
audio frequency cues from WCPE to insert local IDs. Will want to know
if Les or anyone got it by MS. Glenn Hauser, OK``

And here`s my correspondence later with KUCO, Brad Ferguson, mgr.:

``Brad, Sorry to report that your automatic legal ID was looping every
34 seconds from before when I tuned in at 12:40 this morning, past
1:20 when I turned off. Had I awakened later I was set to check it
again, but after 6:00 it was back to normal. I fear it ran like that
most of the night. Obviously there is no one in downtown OKC
overnight, but I would hope some of you had remote control access to
take care of problems like that. Or a fail-safe to replace with local
music, or something. Regards, Glenn Hauser, Enid``

``Yes, I got us back when I came in a little after 5:00. Chris thinks
the tone controller has died so we will run tonight without our IDs
and he will come with his tester tomorrow. BF`` (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2090 monitoring; next:

Our non-commercial broadcasts and website depend on voluntary support:
thanks this week to Dan Gerrelfinger, Cincinnati OH, for a
donation ``as a thank you and to keep things going`` to

One may also contribute via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds,
to woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 5800, June 15 at 0627, S9+10/20 open carrier, once again
surely from WRMI which is the only station on 5800 earlier; late on a
Tuesday (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. Sporadic E MUF mostly below 88 MHz on June 16 but some spots
higher; several bandchex here don`t get anything but Okies on openish
92.1, 92.9, etc. So I decide to settle for 10m ham beacons, most of
which have been heard before, unlike hundreds of other CW in the WJ5O
roster. I may not have copied full spiels beyond IDs.

the 12m band: 24950-USB at 1956, N9DX, who is per QRZ.com:
``N9DX USA flag USA, John R Higgins, CADOGAN, PA 16212, USA``
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 25950, June 15 at 1954, open carrier with Es fading,
prompting me to post:

``[WOR] Broadcast aux on 25-26 MHz --- Now at sporadic E peak, keep an
ear out for broadcast auxiliaries in the 25-26 MHz band. Very little
activity lately and most of these now in EiBi may well be off for a
few years. Typically they are turned on only when needed, such as
``talkback`` during a remote event, so hosts may get non-delayed
program audio.

Now around 2000 UT June 15, when WWV is also in on 25000, I have an
open carrier on 25950, which once was used in Denver. Usually FM mode
but without mod it may seem like AM. EiBi:

25870 0000-2400 USA WFLA Tampa, FL
25910 0000-2400 USA KLDE El Dorado, TX
25950 0000-2400 USA KGON Portland, OR

26130 0000-2400 USA WIBC Indianapolis, IN
26450 0000-2400 USA WLW Cincinnati, OH

CB and freeband are loaded, lots of 10m beacons too. 73, Glenn``

Harold Frodge, Midland MI, replied, ``I've checked for these often but
have not heard one for several years`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
