** BOTSWANA. 17895, Jan 11 at 1723, VOA English, S5-S7, relay at
1700-1800, 100 kW at 350 degrees. Somewhat better than only other sigs
on band, BBC 17830 Ascension, 17780 Woofferton.

VOA site sometimes referred to as Selebi-Phikwe, othertimes as Moepeng
Hill. WRTH uses both, but where is this, really? East central
Botswana, near the Zimbabwe border; close to which city? 100 km SSE of
Francistown, which used to be a radio site. It`s the second-largest
city, 100K after capital Gaborone. Apparently has not been
de-Anglicized in nomenclature. Wikipedia: ``The present town was
founded in 1897 as a settlement near the Monarch mine and named after
Daniel Francis, an English prospector from Liverpool who acquired
prospecting licences in the region in 1869.``

Selebi-Phikwe is half the size of F-town, and known for nickel mining.
Moepeng Hill is known as MW transmitter site, both for VOA 600 kW on
909 along with the SW; and R. Botswana, 100 kW on 621 kHz. M.H.
appears to be a hill rather than a populated place, about 25 km west
of S.P., so closer to due south from Francistown. A medium-sized
African country, Botswana is 85.79% the area of Texas, but sparsely
populated (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 9700, Jan 11 at 0701, S9/8 of dead air in English, the only
RHC frequency still on. and it`s useless. Something`s always wrong at
RHC. Time for The Other Side, anyway:

``READ TODAY THE CUBA OF TOMORROW --- January 11, 2022 OPINION
Díaz-Canel seeks to dupe Cubans by citing 'demographic dynamics'
Raulist neo-Castroism stands out for 'solving' non-existent problems
to avoid facing real ones. --- RAFAELA CRUZ | La Habana``

(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** EGYPT. 9899.6, Jan 11 at 2144 & 2208 chex at UTwente, NO signal
from R. Cairo in English; gave up or working on it? (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** MALI. 13645, Jan 11 at 1728, one of best signals on band, S9-S7 in
talk with drumming, CRI or rather CGTN Radio in Swahili via Bamako II,
which is 100 kW at 111 degrees aimed right at Dar es Salaam. So why is
it so good over here, not directly offback 291 degrees, but hits
Habana barely missing USA (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 1640, Jan 11 at 0729 UT, KZLS Enid, having ``lent`` its
branding to co-owned 96.9 KQOB, now disposes of its own true identity,
IDing as ``The Eagle 96-9`` and ``only talk station with 100,000
watts``. Well, that certainly beats the KOKC translator on 95.3, and
the KTLR on 103.7, but really, in the OKC market? Well, yes, per:
https://radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/locate?select=city&city=oklahoma+city&x=0&y=0
if you discount public radio semi-`talk` station KOSU 91.7. That`s far
too intelligent for The Eagle demographic, which targets the spectrum
from `Red Eye Radio` to `Alex Jones`. Hey, why doesn`t talker KTOK
1000 have at least an FM translator-wagger? Get with it (Glenn Hauser,
Enid, WOR)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2120 monitoring: confirmed Tuesday January 11
at 2338 the 2330 on WRMI 9955, S9/S7 direct, no jamming audible.

** U S A. (7490.1v), UT Tue Jan 11 at 0030, after hearing the secret
semi-repeat of `UBMP` on WBCQ webcast, `Camp Constitution Radio`
starts with theme notes, then prolog-commercial, this time something
about Quitting -- I don`t get it, and almost sounds like a parody. If
real, may pay for the `CCR` airtime (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 1200 kHz, Jan 11 at 0727 UT, gospel huxterism overriding
WOAI, where at less than 500 miles away, we ought to be within its
prime ``clear channel`` 50 kW ND coverage area --- Plugs
calvarysearch.com and program title seems `The Verdict`, non-IDs for
``Faith 1200``, i.e. KFNW West Fargo ND, still far out-of-whack, not
protecting WOAI. Makes SAH of about 5 Hz, counting the ``fades`` as
the seconds on my watch tick by (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. More replies on the UDXF iog thread about the 6114 RTTY,
January 7 into 8:

``No way was it 850 shift yesterday evening, although the speed may
have been 75. It was a 200 Hz shift FSK synchronous (encrypted) signal
which MultiPSK was giving out at around 50 Bauds. 73 de JimD
(MPJ)``

``It's on 6114 CF at the moment using 850 Hz shift -- Martin - South
West UK`` [no time displayed]

``Antonio I56578 Jan 7 #102673 --- Hard to state the speed, poor
SNR.``

``Leon Koning Jan 7 #102680 --- Hi, if it is 850/75/enc then it’s not
new, i catched it in Q3 last year. Don’t know where t’s from but it
looks like US Navy. Someone has to confirm this but this TX is
proberbly // with 5454.50 (cf) r/Leon``

``Mike Chace-Ortiz Jan 7 #102683 --- See my earlier posts on this
thread, Leon, It’s from the Azores. —mco``

``You were right Mike. Apologies. It's now much stronger here and is
showing 882 Hz shift while MultiPSK is giving out silly speeds, but it
is indeed 75 Bauds by ear. 73 de JimD (MPJ)``

``Antonio I56578 Jan 8 #102704 --- for what concerns the speed, it's
75 bps on-air but the actual bps rate is 50 bps (1 bit out-of 3 is
repeated) ciao Antonio`` [with graphic] (via Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
