Glenn Hauser logs June 11-12, 2022

Sunday, June 12 2022

** AUSTRIA. 18152 USB, June 11 at 2225, OE6##, Tom, working pileups as
if there be a contest and he be rare. Found a match of exact time and
frequency at https://dxheat.com/dxc/
as OE6TLF, and at qrz.com:

contact and QRZ: See his bio and photos including animal rescues:

** CUBA. 6060, June 12 at 0712, only RHC still on when Esperanto is
scheduled Sundays, but dead air. Something`s always wrong at RHC
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** EGYPT. 9440, June 11 at 2228, distorted music at S3/S6, better than
usual for R. Cairo direct (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** GERMANY [non]. 15215.10, June 12 at 0632, African language S6/S9.
It`s DW via Issoudun, FRANCE defective transmitter (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** ITALY. 21244.3 USB, II3WR TC calling QRZ and working someone
unheard in Oklahoma. He always appends TC fonetikaly to his call after
a pause; what`s that mean? No, it`s really a 4-letter suffix from a
multi-operator station per qrz.com:

We have to go to the award site to find out what WRTC stand for: World
Radio Team Championship (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 27184.5, June 11 at 2033 UT, S9+22 of country music as //
103.1 KOFM Enid continues to be a SW station tnx to a CB pirate
relayer. Still going at 0209 June 12 check.

27184.4, June 12 at 1919 still KOFM relay but with huge het from
27185.4, another carrier to jam it? KOFM still audible at 27183.4
area. Anyone DXing this by sporadic E skip? (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. Hepburn tropo map shows Level 5 = strong blob edging Enid
over SE half of OK into AR, so bandscan from 1426 UT June 12:
BAD signals on RF: 9, 10, 11, 20, 23, 31, 32, 35 which are otherwise
open; also OK channels baddened no doubt by DX QRM: 7, 17. Channel
which ought to bear DX but nothing due to two DX CCI: 26. Decodes:

RF 28, Ion 44: KTPX Okmulgee OK for Tulsa
RF 34, 41-1, KMYT-TV Tulsa OK
RF 36, 17-1, TBN-HD KDOT-TV Bartlesville OK for Tulsa mkt
RF 22, 23-1, KOKI-TV Tulsa Fox
RF 21, 40-1, KHBS-DT, Fort Smith AR, ABC: site is near Poteau,
OKLAHOMA per FCC contour map!!
RF 20, 19-1, KQCW-HD Muskogee for Tulsa
No time to explore multi/sub channels for each, but rabbitears.info
listings I have found to be quite accurate.

As always my DTV DX is via Zenith set-top-box converter, fed by one
antenna about 7 feet above roof peak, hi VHF/UHF only, reflector
element slightly broken/hanging misaligned, fix-aimed SSE toward OKC,
and no amp. Under dead condx it will not decode KETA 13, KOCM 16, KSBI
23. Besides not being on UHF, OETA`s problem is QRM from 2nd harmonic
of local 107.1 KNID which falls within ch 13 on 214.2 MHz.
I used to be able to get KETAs-13 by carefully placed rabbit ears, but
not lately: something changed?? Several greater FM/TV antennas and
rotors have not survived storms thru the years. Thus I cannot even try
for lowband Es DTV DX; altho this antenna did once manage to DX KBSD
RF6 Ensign KS by strong tropo so I do recheck for that (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** SLOVENIA. 18130 USB, June 11 at 22224, sounds like CR51DX, as in a
Portuguese colony? No, mentions Slovenia, so it`s really S51DX as in
Sierra instead of C-R. I was thrown likewise in 2020 by his brother
S57DX. S51DX:

** TURKEY. 9830, June 11 at 2229, VOT English YL, S5/S7 but LSB
required to avoid RTTY USB. Often nearly inaudible unless I go
remotedly to UTwente (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** UKRAINE [non]. 7730, June 12 at 0500, YP1 via WRMI with English
`Ukraine: Security Issue`, but Day 107 of war with YL#1, repeat of 24
hours ago so RMI did not get a new file today (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 22477.5 CW, June 11 at 2240, VVV DE KPH etc., alternating
fast and slow markers mentioning QRU = have you anything for me? As in
EiBi for KPH Point Reyes CA, 1700-2300 Saturdays only.

I`m bandscanning the entire 22-25 MHz range for anything at all other
than hams which are propagating above and below, and this is all I
hit. I`m hoping for some broadcast harmonix, but no luck yet. I showed
in my Hunting Harmonics [sic] with Hauser column in NASWA FRENDX, SWBC
harmonic ranges, but which would now be:
23000-24320 for 2 x 11 MHz band;
23200-24800 for 4 x 5/6 MHz band;
23750-25650 for 5 x 4/5 MHz band.
21600-23340 for 3 x extended 7 MHz band.
Further ranges from more bands can be calculated up to 31 MHz or even
higher (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. No luck June 11-UT 12 with sporadic E FM DX here,
altho DXMAPS showed several openings not quite reaching us and a few
high MUF spixe. At least pokes above 28 MHz for some more 10m ham
beacons at 0033-0055 UT June 12; but all faded before 0100. Reference

June 11 at 1943 on WA0RCR, 1860 AM, MO, S9+5 into nearby SDR, about 2
minutes into so started circa 1941.

Also confirmed UT Sunday June 12 at 0030 on WRMI 7780, JBA direct vs
HSNL = high storm noise level from SE KS; but way off side here from
222 beam: hope it`s better in C America, maybe Europe off its back.

Also confirmed UT Sunday June 12 at 0322 midpoint on WA0RCR, 1860 AM,
MO, so started about 0309, with storm noise from SE KS? into nearby
SDR.

Also confirmed Sunday June 12 ending at 1401 on WMRI Europe via
Channel 292, GERMANY, 9670, S5/S6 into NW Ireland SDR. Next:

For these noncommercial services, voluntary financial support is much
appreciated, thanks this week to generous Doug Brown, London ON, who
sent a Florida US$ check to Glenn Hauser, PO Box 1684, Enid OK 73702
USA, and comments: ``Thanks, Glenn, for continuing to promote the
medium of short wave radio at a time when many are saying the Internet
had made SW obsolete. Online streaming is no more like radio than
intravenous feeding is like fine dining. Authoritarian governments can
control the Internet but they can`t control RF propagation``

** U S A. 15150, June 11 at 2051, no signal from reactivated WMLK,
Bethel PA. There were reports Friday June 10 around 2230 of carriers
on its other registered frequency, 9275, and their FB claimed they
were about ready to test on the air. Of course, June 11 is a
Sabbathday off, but maybe on Sunday. However, 15150 is A-22 registered
at the rather strange span of 04-09 for Europe, whilst 9275 only at
17-22, both 300 kW at 53 degrees on days 123456 only (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** U S A. 1130 kHz, June 11 at 2245 UT, KLEY Wellington KS is
again/still dead air. Way to go, Rocking M! Maybe this have something
to do with it:

``Rocking M Moves Forward With Bankruptcy Reorganization
By Adam Jacobson - March 29, 2022

Three years ago, a family feud of sorts ensued for Doris and Monte
Miller. The longtime Kansas-based broadcasters dismissed two family
members, son Christopher Miller and grandson Cale Miller, from the
company. Then came barbs from Doris and Monte that Christopher Miller
had unwisely expanded Rocking M Media‘s holdings to 32 stations
between 2008 and 2018, putting the finances in a difficult position.
There was also a April 2019 deal that never closed, with Doris and
Monte Miller seizing control and taking the stations dark.

Today, Doris and Monte Miller are moving forward with a plan designed
to ensure the family’s media holdings, which date to the 1880s,
continue to generate profit while bringing luster back to a legacy
that includes The A.Q. Miller Family School of Journalism and Mass
Communications at Kansas State University, named after Monte’s
father.

Rocking M Media has filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy Protection.

Update: On May 11, 2022, Rocking M Media filed paperwork with the FCC
amending its licensee status to “debtor in possession.”``
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. Sporadic E FM DX opening from the east, June 12 between 1652
and 1915 but not continuous listening. With OK fringe tropo still up,
little to show for it. Full details in next report: 94.3 WRLX Riviera
Beach FL; 95.1 WRNS-FM Kinston NC; 100.7 WRDU Rocky Mount NC; and I
hope more to be IDed or logged later (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** VANUATU. 11835, June 12 at 0630, RV with music at S8/S9 on 3 x 3945
reactivated; as Manuel Mendez, Spain, first reported before 0600 on
7260 instead of 5040. Also JBA carrier on 7890 = 2 x 3945 (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)
