** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98 RC USB, LRA36 continued from last report when
it was still going Dec 17 at 0039: next check 0055 at Argentine
remote, it`s off. Several WOR iog members in N America were getting it
direct all afternoon, but I didn`t try this time; Doug White, KA5ETS
in Carrboro NC says it went off abruptly at 0046:30*.

BTW, at 2113 Dec 16 I reconfirmed it`s not pure USB as some apparently
think, rather with a JBA very reduced carrier which can be perceived
on the remote by off-tuning to 15475.00 USB. Not even enough for SAM -
synch mode to zero in on it (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CANADA. Re 2598 & 2749 USB: ``Escoumins is the originator,
contradicting the monitored delay. Google cannot translate Escoumins
from French; perhaps a proper name``

``"Its name has traditionally been recognized to come from the
Montagnais iskomin, meaning "where there are many seeds" or "there are
fruits or seeds", in turn from the roots isko or ishko ("as far as
this/that") and min (red seeds, or wild berries in general). According
to more recent theory, it could also be a variation of the Mi'kmaq
term eskumunaak, meaning "lookout place". In addition, other sources
say that the place is named Essipit in Montagnais, meaning "river of
shells"."
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Les_Escoumins,_Quebec

Note that in NB, we have a village called Escuminac, with Canada's
largest inshore fishing vessel harbour. It is also the location of one
of the permanent government GNSS stations and a tide gauge. -- Richard
Langley`` (via Glenn Hauser, WOR)

** FRANCE. 6000-6005-6010, Dec 17 at 0812, DRM noise at S9. Must be
TDF testing again this hour only, as I first discovered Nov 24; 350
degrees per drmrx.org (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** INTERNATIONAL INTERNET. Special Holiday Programming: While it would
be nice if it were spread out more during the year, now`s the time for
some great music, not just overdone traditional Xmas carols,
especially by some webcasting public radio stations. Two of the best
for starters:

KQAC Portland: add 8 hours for UT:
https://www.allclassical.org/programs/holiday-programming23/

WUOT Knoxville: add 5 hours for UT:
https://www.wuot.org/2023-24-holiday-specials

Here are some more:

KRPS Pittsburg KS: add 6 h for UT:

** MEXICO. 660, Dec 17 at 0757 music, 0758 ``Esto es ABC Deportes``,
rock music in English, 0801 full ID as ``XHGBO 92.1, Monterrey, Grupo
Radio ---``. Next song sounds like ABBA. IRCA Mexican log shows XEFZ,
10/1 kW at 1200-0600 only. GBO must stand for General BravO, location
of the FM. Another late nite, KTNN was dominating the channel, not
now. It`s a ``sports`` station with music instead of that (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MEXICO. 770, Dec 17 at 0754 ``Música W`` ... ``Mambo #5`` song in
English; 0800 ``W Radio Zacatecas`` ... ``24 horas`` ... ``-- media``.
W is always pronounced ``doble-ú``. Dominating frequency at first even
on E/W longwire. IRCA Mexican Log shows it`s XEFRTM, Fresnillo, 10/1
kW, W Radio sometimes // XEW 900 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. RF 17, Dec 17 at 1554 UT and beyond, K17JN-D is off the
air again, Enid`s only local TV signal with 3ABN multichannels. Am
sure it was still nominal as of yesterday, and with mis-ID as K17JI-D.
Fails periodically and may be off or black silence for weeks at a
time. We shall see (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

nearby storms, only in NW SAm.
