I do like his patent for the twin coil.  Very readable and he even goes into
the design of his preamp.  Going by your description of the radio it sounds
like it uses the circuit in figure 7 so it can use a varactor to tune.
Figure 4 is I guess the more pure version of the antenna circuit with a
