DAVID J. VALKO - (Sat. 30 August) For the past half an hour,
0105-0136*, I've been listening to an unidentified LA station on 6236.6
slightly variable by about 30 hz. The station was playing lively
non-stop uptempo LA Pop music (style??) like one would here from
Venezuela or Colombia. There also appeared to be occasional very brief
canned announcements by a man at the beginnings of songs, but the audio
was too distorted to copy. It sounded like there was a mention of
"kilohertz" at the end of one announcement. It went off suddenly in the
middle of a song at 0136, however the carrier remained on past 0146 when
I left the freq. The signal itself was fairly strong, somewhat
distorted, and was hampered by UTE QRM. I checked other 49 mb LA freqs
to see if it might be a spur, but didn't come up with anything. I
wouldn't be surprised if its R. Patria Libre. But since it sounded
unlike Patria Libre in both signal quality and programming, I have some
doubt. Other possibilities might be Voz de Resistencia or the Pirate R.
Cochiguaz. Thus, I'm sending you this message asking for your help. If
you know what station this is or was, please drop me a note. Thanks
everyone!!! 73's Dave

DAVID J. VALKO - ( Aug. 31) Sorry guys, I should've thought the Unid.
LA heard recently was Quisqueya. It probably is them. Just when the
last bits of (Mali) egg has left my face, another hits the mark!!!!
Yes Jerry, it should've been 6236.6 in the subject title. Just a typo.
In any event, I'm going to keep checking this to get a positive ID, just
to be on the safe side. Thanks fellas. 73's Dave

0012- 7164.42-NEPAL- R. Nepal, 0012-0016 Aug 26, instrumental IS, fair
but somewhat lower level than on // 5005.04. Splattered by hams soon
after *0015. My 1st solid log of this channel during the brief evening
window. While Nepal was notably better than previous day, AIR signals
on 60/90 mb's were way down and non-descript as compared with Aug 25th
prior day. ---CLARK, Ont Canada

0022- 6725.6- PERU- R.Satelite,Santa Cruz at 0022 with OM in Spanish
messages and "attencions " (typical Satelite style !!) ---STEYN, South
Africa/ DX TIPS-SA SW Listener Aug.2

0025- 4790-INDIA- AIR Chennai, 0025-0035 Aug 31, Tamil songs, into talk
by man at 0035. Poor-fair; at times badly QRM'd by ute. Other AIR's very
poor or not audible at all. ---CLARK, Ont Canada

0034- 4788.4- DOMINICAN REPUBLIC- Onda Musical 0034 Up from previous
4779v with a whopping signal in mixed bag of ranchera music, romantic
ballads, and birthday greetings and mensajes. ID text at 0058 copied as
"Informativa y directiva, esta es la inconfundible Onda Musical, con tu
moda y mas." Into interview program called "De Todos Para Todos," with
much talk of "inmigracion" and the "loteria." Same ID at 0132. As strong
as it was, though, QRN crashes sometimes made copy less than 100%.
---HILL, MA USA Aug. 18

0035- 4935-KENYA- KBC, Nairobi, 0035-0402 Aug 27, Afro-accented male
announcer in English suddenly rising above unID co-channel LA, then
oldie pop songs - 'Summer Holiday' and 'My Boy Lollipop'. Retuned at
0400 for KBC time signal and woman with news in English. Fair at times;
often not even audible any more as compared to great strength of a
couple of years ago - this on a nite when R. Tanzania was very good.
---CLARK, Ont Canada

0037- 5005.04- NEPAL- R. Nepal, 0037-0039 Aug 25, domestic music
with vocal by woman. Weak but fairly clear, then promptly faded. Good
carrier and tentative // on 7164.43 but only marginal audio. *
0012-0025 Aug 26, perhaps best ever evening longpath level with
instrumental IS, tone and several more notes to 0015 opening by woman,
then vocal. Talk by man at 0020 and back to music at 0025 with signal
much lower; // 7164.42 totally faded by this time * 0011:30 startup of
IS but very weak and faded even before s/on; 7164.4 had only moderate
carrier this date. ---CLARK, Ont Canada

0047- 4800- INDIA- AIR Hyderabad, 0047-0049 Aug 25, subcontinental
chanting/vocal. Fair and surprisingly easier than usual to separate
(using USB) from the low side LAm; also noted AIR Delhi-4860 at 0050,
better than usual with film music and male/female vocal. Fair-good.
---CLARK, Ont Canada

0052- 5010- INDIA- AIR Thiru'puram, 0052 Aug 25, noted in passing at
good level with sub- continental vocal by man. Continues to be the most
reliable evening Tropical Band AIR signal by a wide margin. ---CLARK,

woman at weak level. The only audible AIR signal on 90 mb. ---CLARK, Ont

0934- 6085.2- BOLIVIA- R. San Gabriel 0934 Most likely this one in
presumed Aymara with emphatic narrative punctuated by shouting, crowd
noises, and brief march themes. Bothered by rushing/roaring noise,
probably from Anguilla on 6090, which made an echo announcement at 0947
in Spanish unreadable. Buried at 0951 by WYFR carrier. ---HILL, MA USA

Wonder if 6105.08 was R. Universidad de Costa Rica. Not there the
