Prasar Bharati channels may launch in US

Prasar Bharati may launch four Doordarshan Channels
and two radio channels from the States in the United
States. According to sources, if everything goes well,
the channels will start beaming by May end this year.

The channels to be launched are DD news, DD India, DD
Bengali and DD Punjabi. The Radio channels are FM
Rainbow and FM Hindi. The tenders have been awarded to
Indians with US citizenship. Hemanth Patel has been
given the tender for DD at $ 2,00,000 as
non-refundable caution deposit and the tender for
radio to H R Shah for $ 50,000.

Meanwhile, Prasar Bharati is also launching a mega
Hindi serial of 520 episodes on India for the period
from 1857 to 2007 called Bharathayana, to be produced
and telecast soon by DD. The episodes will be in Hindi
with sub-titles in English and other regional
languages. It will cover important events of the last
150 years and contain historical, socio-economic
problems, culture and heritage, religious events,
classical music, drama and folk arts of the country.
