[HCDX] Loggings and Solar Cycle

PERU 4990.93 R. Ancash 0914-0940 Nice campesino mx, 0921 M and W in
Aymara in slight echo, then very long canned ad block 0923-0929. One ad
mentioned Huaraz, and another ment ??Huaraz, Ancash??, Maranon, and phone
numbers. 0929-0933 live M returned over mx w/pres. comunicados w/peoples
names and phone numbers, and ment of Maria, Amazonas, Huaraz,
oficina. Back to mx at 0933. 0936 M w/song anmnts and ID sounding like
?Radio Anc? (dropping the ?ash?). Next song by Antonio ??. Another quick
ID and ment of Ancash at 0939, ment of Peru, and very nice clearer animated
ID. Glad to see this one is still on or returned since other stations have
been going dark. Had to use USB to avoid QRM from Surinam 4990. (21 Oct.)

PERU 4835.47 R. Maranon 0955-0957 Instru. NA, then long full canned ID
by alternating M and W at 0957. Fantastic canned ID/promo w/men shouting
?R. Maranon?, then M over soft instru. mx. Very nice signal. (21 Oct.)

PERU 4936.64 R. Madre de Dios (pres.) 1006 M anncr over mx, then some
strange repetitive chanting mx and into long Huayno-like song, heavy on the
flute. 1019 M returned briefly, and more mx. 1021 M w/TC, tlk. 1030 end
of song (finally) and canned anmnt so muffled it was impossible to
copy. Then intro w/possible ment of Madre de Dios. Into rel. pgm w/M and
W hosts similar to what I?ve heard on Madre de Dios in the past. Ment of
Palabra de Dios. Definitely not R. Amazonas as it came on at 1034 on
4939.7 (at least this was where the carrier was) pretty much wiping this
out. (21 Oct.)

PERU 5039.2 R. Libertad de Junin (tent.) Just a carrier here at 1101,
but hopeless. (21 Oct.)

SINGAPORE 6080 R.S.I. Carrier and tone on at 1049. Tone off and OC at
1058. S/on at 1059 w/mx and EG ID by W as ?Good evening, this is R.
Sinagapore Int. on ?? kiloHertz ?? meters in the 49 meterband. I?m Vivian
??...?. Mx bridge, the TC and ID by Vivian again followed by nx. Poor to
fair but readable. (21 Oct.)

Went out on a micro-DXpedition this past Saturday afternoon. Some nice
African reception.

RX: JRC NRD-535D
ANT: 300 foot Beverage at 50 degrees.
QTH: Pennsylvania State Game Lands #26
Duration: 2020-2310 UTC
Solar Indices: Solar Flux = 75 A Index = 17 K Index = 3 No storms
Weather: Decreasing cloudiness, comfortable 52 F degrees (12 C.)

PIRATE (NA) 6850.9 MAC Shortwave 2034 ID and ?The Wanderer?. Very
strong. (21 Oct.)

LIBERIA 5469.96 R. Veritas 2037, M in accented EG. Live discussion at
2056. Gave phone at end of pgm 00231621856. 2058 ID by M in muffled
audio. (21 Oct.)

PAPUA NEW GUINEA?? 4890 NBC?? Definite stn here at 2039 w/mx. Sounded
like M anncr briefly at 2040. Still there but barely a carrier at 2104, so
fits NBC fade pattern. Dead quiet so any signal would show up. Maybe a
better chance in another month. (21 Oct.)

GABON 4777 R.G. Rapid FR tlk by M to 0600 ToH, simple ?R. Gabon? ID by
W, then cont. tlk by same M, pres. nx. Fair but clear. (22 Oct.)

Read in the November issue of Sky & Telescope magazine that solar cycle 24
has just started. Seems the Synoptic Optical Long-term Investigations of
the Sun (SOLIS) facility found that magnetic eruptions near the Suns poles
have reversed polarity indicating the start of the next cycle. Equatorial
activity for cycle 23 is presently waning and is predicted to reach minimun
near February.
