Re: [IRCA] DXers of long past

Correct spelling is John Hoogerheide, formerly of Eugene, Oregon; Louisville, Kentucky; and several other locations. I did a ZABA Search and found a couple of John Hoogerheide listings ... most likely one was John W. Hoogerheide, born Sept 1934 (he was about my age) 542 Blue Sage Loop, Kerrville TX 78028 (830) 896-3768. The age sounds right and the middle initial sounds right. I called the number, got an answering machine.

Google search indicates the John Hoogerheide in Kerrville TX is a birdwatcher with more than 700 species on his master list ... there's a correlation between birdwatching and DXing, believe it or not ... both hobbyists keep lists that require date, time and place and are subject to verification by other birders. I dabbled in birding for a while ... took a lot of telephoto shots of backyard birds, got involved with two Southern Illinois Audobon Societies (one affiliated with the state, another with national ... sort of an IRCA/NRC parallel dichotemy, I suppose you could say ... and even started a master list ... but didn't keep up with it after the first week or so. Hobby overload.
