Re: [IRCA] Call Sign Trivia

Looks like I guessed wrong on this one - Patrick was thinking of El
Paso, but the one I had in mind was San Diego, where Clear Channel took
advantage of some quirks in the FCC multiple-ownership rules to run no
fewer than FIFTEEN radio stations out of its building at 9660 Granite
Ridge Road in Kearny Mesa.

For a year or two around 2002, the lineup at that building was:

CC-owned: KOGO 600, KPOP 1360, KHTS 93.3, KMYI 94.1, KOCL 95.7, KGB
101.5, KIOZ 105.3

Operated by CC under a JSA: KSDO 1130

Mexican stations operated by CC under LMA: XETRA 690, XHITZ 90.3,
XETRA-FM 91.1, XHRM 92.5, XHCR 99.3

Temecula CA stations owned and operated by CC as simulcasts of San Diego
signals: KOGO 94.5 (// KOGO 600), KGBB 103.3 (// KGB 101.5)

Since then, the FCC rules have changed to count Mexican LMAs against US
ownership limits, so the Mexican stations, except 99.3 have been spun
off to other operators, and KSDO has been sold off as well. The Mexican
stations (except 690) still operate from the Granite Ridge Road
building, but from a separate set of offices.

The Temecula stations are now programmed from Riverside.
