The Primitive Art Group, the Wellington-based fringe jazz group that
achieved some notoriety was made up of players David and Anthony
Donaldson, Neill Duncan, David Watson and Stuart Porter. The unit's
musical influence and work ethic can still be found in Wellington's
jazz and improv' scenes, located in what The Wire magazine referred to
as 'The Space Sound'. It's the sound generated by a close knit group of
musicians who have a commitment to pushing musical boundaries through
improvisational playing. Brothers David and Anthony Donaldson talk
about the legacy of the Primitive Art Group from the historic Plan 9
Studios in Arthur Street, Te Aro, Wellington.
