[Swprograms] Podding Along - Issue 469

Some of the best radio comes from the public networks of the UK, Australia, Ireland, Canada, New Zealand and the U.S. Podcasts permit a shift of listening time from a set appointment to virtually any convenient occasion.

While there are hundreds, perhaps thousands, of great podcasts from other sources, the ones sponsored via public radio have been vetted though the worthy objectives of the medium.

Here’s what I’ve been listening to recently. I hope you might find these suggestions helpful in enhancing your own enjoyment of radio, our favorite medium.

“Remembering Gordon Lightfoot”
Q with Tom Power - CBC Radio 1
Acclaimed Canadian singer-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot died yesterday at the age of 84, ending a career that spanned more than five decades and included honours such as the Order of Canada and an induction into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. With help from artists who knew Lightfoot well, Q's Tom Power and Commotion's Elamin Abdelmahmoud co-host a special tribute looking back on his legendary music and his long-lasting impact on Canadian culture. Contemporaries like Anne Murray, Murray McLauchlan and Tom Wilson stop by to share their favourite songs and stories from the late musician's life. (78”)
(Go to Apple Podcasts, search “Q with Tom Power and click on or download this episode of the program. For some reason, listeners outside Canada cannot access the program directly from the cbc.com <http://cbc.com/> website.)

A compendium of these suggestions, plus on occasion additional pertinent material, is published in most editions of the CIDX Messenger, the monthly e-newsletter of the Canadian International DX Club (CIDX). For further information and membership information, go to www.cidx.ca
