ETHIOPIA 7110 kHz Broadcasting station program on Sept 5.
Heard a BC station in AM mode in a probably Asian language on 7110 kHz
this evening between 1801 and 1805z. Signal was 59 plus plus and modu-
lation was fine. Female voice - could have been a newscast. Short music
piece at the end - and sign off without an announcement at 1804z.
The signal was just cut as soon as the announcement was over.
Anyone? Sept 5.

Heard this on Saturday 5th at 1821z. Two songs identified by Shazam app as
Ethiopian performers. QRT at 1831z.
This {Sept 6} afternoon I had a KiwiSDR S-meter chart recording on 7110kHz
and it shows the carrier came up at about 1705z. Initially averaging
-80 dBm rising to about -75 dBm by 1800z. Still on now.
The music tracks played are consistently identified by Shazam as
Ethiopian. The current one {Sept 6} is Ema (Remix) by Kalkidan Meshesha
from the album Ethiopian Remix Hits 2015 Vol. 1, in case you were
wondering !

Radio Ethiopia ceased transmitting on 7110 kHz many years ago. Reactivated?

The first one, they just identified as Radio Ethiopia. (Mauno Ritola-FIN)
On Sept 6th checked first at Greece excellent Perseus SDR_net unit
at SV8RV server:
7110.000 exact aligned frequency, at S=6 or -84dBm signal strength
at this antenna place, at 18.28 UT on Sept 6.
Noted excellent FRENCH(!) language talk.

7110 kHz UNID at 0412 UTC - UNID - Male and female announcers in what
sounds like an Arabic dialect and music that sounds like what one would
hear in the Horn of Africa region - Voice of Broad Masses 1 was copied
just before 0400 UT on 7140 kHz.
Immediately after I logged this station on 7110 kHz I checked back at 7140
kHz and found nothing. Am wondering if Voice of Broad Masses 1 is shifting
from 7140 kHz down to 7110 kHz at 0400 UT ?
This UNID station sounds exactly like Voice of Broad Masses 1, although
this UNID station seems to have a stronger signal that VOBM 1 on 7140 kHz.
Any input would be appreciated!

Re: 7110 kHz UNID. The two Eritrean VoBM stations on 7140 and 7180 kHz
have carrier frequencies 19-20 Hert above nominal.
Radio Ethiopia on 7110 kHz yesterday was about 1 Hz below nominal.
{yes, started on 7110.000even at v04.05 approx UT, and settled down
1 single Hertz below nominal after 20 minutes, wb. df5sx }
(FWIW the carrier frequency tolerance in the ITU Radio Regulations for HF
broadcasters is 10 Hz.)
Yesterday Sept 7th afternoon, 7140 kHz came on air before 7110 kHz went off.
According to my signal strength chart recording a carrier did appear on
7110 kHzthis morning at about 0350 UTC and faded into the noise over the
next two hours as the path to the UK came into daylight.

morning check report of Thursday Sept 9:
At 03.59 UT start of 7140.020 kHz Eritrea, Asmara-Selea Daro bcast site,
VoBroad Masses program, S=6 or -87dBm signal noted on Perseus_net SDR
server at Athens Greece, southern Europe.
No Eritrean broadcaster on 7180.020 kHz noted today Thursday Sept 9.
Much stronger signal happened on Greek SDR at Athens (-87 against -72dBm):
7110even exact frequency, empty audio carrier of Intruder [Ethiopian] at
S=9+5dB or -72dBm signal strength started
sudden crash start single SECOND(!) ONLY modulation transmission at
04.02:30z
04:03:50z
04.04.17z - but always switched off immediatelly again afterwards.
Real full program start with their proper bcast modulation started
continously at
04.05:31z
Around 04.26 UT noted service on 7109.999 kHz, at S=9 or -77dBm,
dark gray path at Egypt then.
At same time 'no Ethiopian bcast radio programs'
noted on their channels 5950, 6030, 6090, nor 6110 kHz today Sept 9th.
In the past veiled opposition broadcasts in 41 mb from Gedja against
Eritrea noted between February 1999 and April 2018, when in April and
November 2018 the peace talks between Ethiopia and Eritrea led to a
pacification in the Horn of Africa.
Nearby also Near East OTHR over the horizon military radar on
6069 - 6103 kHz
and hopped then to
6021 - 6034 kHz wide range bursts at 0430 UT.

HoA-mystery station
I followed the situation from about 1730 h UTC:
7110 kHz was noted active with a broadcasting station with talk in an un-
known language and music elements pointing to the Horn of Africa. The
station which suffered from adjacent ham interference all the time went
off the air at 1800 h.
At the same time the following HoA-stations were noted active: Eritrea
7140 kHz (but not 7180 kHz), Ethiopia on 6090 kHz (Radio Amhara) and 6110
kHz (Radio Fana stronger than Tibet). There was also a modulated carrier
on 6030 kHz (Radio Oromiya which I have not noted for quite a while but
now at 1815 h I am sure that it is on the air.).
Nothing was noted on 7700 kHz.

The Ethiopian mystery station just went on the air at 1735z. Obviously, at
the end of headlines read by a woman. So they started late with the trans-
mission, which might than be a relay of another source.
I have been waiting for the station since 1600 h.
