Glenn Hauser logs August 20, 2022

Hauser
** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98 RCUSB, Aug 20 from 1445 past 1530, no signal
from LRA36 into Argentine remote this Saturday. At first I was camping
on Gary Pence, and briefly sometime before 1500 heard some music, but
he may have switched to a different frequency. Still nothing at 1809
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** EAST TURKISTAN. 11775, Aug 20 at 1810-1840+, very nice Chinese
traditional instrumental music nonstop on CRI via Kashgar, standard
accusation, scheduled as German 18-20 UT, but one of the languages
they can`t be bothered to utter anymore; VG S9/+20 into Canary SDR I
am rechecking for Nigeria 11770 but which gets nothing but splatter
from this. Continues past 1900 without a break or any announcement
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** GREECE [non]. 5130-, UT Sat Aug 20 at 0238-0300, `Greek Music
Refuge` as programmed by Zach Liangas and presented by U. Bill Tilford
on WBCQ Radio Angela, S9/+10 but noisy into Maryland SDR; would have
been better on a higher band such as 9420 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NIGERIA. 7254.936, Aug 20 at 0626, Voice of Nigeria is back! I have
been checking for it every night after 0600 so am sure this is the
first date reactivated. S9+10/20 undermodulated in presumed Hausa on
signature skewed frequency.

My last previous observation: ``7254.9v, July 12 at 0635, NO signal
from VON nor has there been for several weeks, checked almost every
night after 0600; nor have I seen any other reports about this, nor
other possible frequencies 9690-, 11770-, 15120 being heard at any
hours.``

Before then it had been sporadic: you never knew whether it would be
on after 0600 or not. I had not logged it assiduously so unsure when
it last appeared. Originally had three transmitters, but two of them
already collapsed.

7255- would sometimes be on before 0600 with musical prélude and neat
drumming IS. Nominal sked was 0600-1100 including English 0800-1000;
and 2000-2100 per Aoki. 15120 might also appear evenings in DRM.

11770- was also previously scheduled at 1500-2100 including English at
1630-1900, but Aug 20 at 1620, none of it into Canary Islands SDR,
just JBA on-frequency from presumed PBS Xinjiang, Urumqi, East
Turkistan, land of imperialist ChiCom genocide against Uyghurs and
other Moslems (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6933 USB, Aug 20 at 0126, heavy jazz/guitar S9, 0128
ID overdone that I can`t understand, ``--- Radio``, more past 0136.
These say it`s Thunder Chicken Radio, at 2341 moved up from 6930 USB
as in previous report:
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,100843.0.html
Never heard any SSTV beepery while I was retuned (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6960 AM, August 20 at 0127, soft rock S9/+10 but
undermod compared to 6933 USB station; then, ``I wanna hold your
hand``. 0129 SFX and Ballsmacker Radio ID: still on a reliable Friday
night schedule? Many more logs here:
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,100854.0.html
Seems the keyword for song titles was ``hold`` (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** UKRAINE [non]. (7730), catching up with `Ukraine: Security Issue`
from archive rather than UR1 relay by WRMI at 0500: Aug 18, day 176:
http://ukr.radio/images/ckeditor/files/files/ENG_NEWS_18_08_22.mp3
Including: Trainloads of heavy Russian weapons. Shrapnel dangerous for
civilians, not just missiles themselves. Russians even deliberately
injure themselves in order to avoid fighting, be evacuated. Russians
confiscating cars. Zap. power plant situation increasingly tense.
Claim Ukrainians are making provocations. Turkish pres. visiting
Ukraine, inspecting grain exportation. Risk of radiation leak at
plant.

Aug 19, day 177:
http://ukr.radio/images/ckeditor/files/files/ENG_NEWS_19_08_22.mp3
Including: Kharkiv suffers most losses since beginning. Russia used $ 3
million missile to destroy dormitory of hearing-impaired people, no
military targets nearby. Is only 15 km from Russian frontline. Donbas
settlements destroyed every day, but have not been able to capture
entire Donbas. Russians aim exclusively at civilian targets as in
several cities. R stepping up nuclear blackmail. Mig31s deployed in
Kaliningrad with hypersonic missiles threatening Poland and Lithuania
neighbors (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2051 monitoring: ``5850 UNITED
STATES WRMI 1033, Just after BBC newscast (on 9410), a tardy tune-in
to World of Radio, but confirming the px is running on schedule, with
Glenn reporting halfway thru that Italy has chosen 9/11 as date to cut
off MW broadcasts in the country. Heard very good to excellent with
Grundig Satellit 205 and indoor short wire. NOTE: px followed up by
good ID by M ann, then one of those Overcomer broadcasts with someone
playing piano over a bunch of moaning and groaning -- Very Good Aug.
17 [Wed] Rick Barton-AZ``

** U S A. (7489.9), UT Sat Aug 20 at 0000, WBCQ webcast of `AAAWWW`,
starts right off with ``look up`` to see how insignificant humans are
in light of the Webbscope -- *another* repeat, 4th? time, of the
mid-July show; never mind. Then why did AW plug this earlier today
with a twit giving the phone number as if it would be new? (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

Here it is:
https://www.w4uvh.net/KQKD1380QSL_220115.pdf
Or #134 via:
http://www.worldofradio.com/QSL.html

Somehow my original report of this is missing from the Roundup for
that week, so here it is now:

1380, Jan 15 at 0601-0641 UT, monitoring the MW DX test from
KQKD, 1380, Redfield SD. My report to CPC for eQSL:

Thanks for the test! First time I`ve heard KQKD, which is about 580
miles north of me in Enid OK.

I heard the VVV DE KQKD IDs immediately at 0601 UT January 15. I then
recorded 0605-0636 UT and later went thru the file to pick out two
areas with VVV VVV VVV DE KQKD KQKD KQKD - several times. Most of the
rest of the time if anything could be heard, it was sweep tones
upward, or solid tones. The recorder timing may not be too accurate,
but should be correct within 1 or 2 minutes.

Solid tones: 0611, 0612, 0616, 0627
Sweeps upward: 0613, 0625, 0629, 0631, 0635
Siren - varying tone: 0615

The first clip of Vs and IDs at about 0611; second clip about 0623.
One must listen closely but I am sure I copied ``KQKD`` several
times.

https://www.w4uvh.net/KQKDDX1.mp3
https://www.w4uvh.net/KQKDDX2.mp3

This was on my Icom R75, which runs off an east-west 100-foot
longwire, not well positioned for north/south reception. On MW I turn
off the preamps to avoid overload. Dominant station among lots of QRM
was Mexican music, probably KMUS Sperry/Tulsa OK, some 110 miles east
of here, 250 watts at night.

I also heard this on my DX-398 receiver with internal antenna only,
sweeps at 0607 UT. This allowed local 1390 KCRC Enid to be somewhat
nulled. In both cases tuned on LSB to minimize KCRC.

FYI, I did not employ any remote SDR at any time for this test.

Some background info about KQKD would also be of interest, such as
what the call letters may signify, either by original choice or
subsequent slogan formation. Looking forward to an eQSL. Thanks, and
73, (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** VANUATU. 11835, Aug 20 at 0632, R. Vanuatu reconfirmed as still
AWOL. BTW, Ron Howard`s sesquiminute clip of it appears at the end of
WOR 2152 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

This report dispatched at 1939 UT August 20
