Glenn Hauser logs January 7-8-9, 2024
Tuesday, January 09 2024

Logs
** BRAZIL. 4885+, Jan 8 at 0446, S9+10 open? carrier direct = noise
level, offset slightly plus as typical of R. Cl. do Pará. On, off and
on again from night to night, not back to normal dominance (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 6000, Jan 8 at 0450, RHC English is S9+30/40 but JBM,
sup/torted, at least providing the plus/minus parasitic spur carriers,
much weaker but significant. Meanwhile, David Crawford who trax RHC
activity much more closely, replied at 0108 Jan 8 to a previous report
of mine:

``I wouldn't put much faith into _any_ RHC schedules just now. Some
late summary obs:

Current RHC working tx count as of this evening at 0030 Z (local Sun 7
JAN) appears to be:
Bauta - 2
Quivicán - 1 RHC; 2 CRI reserved
Bejucal - 0 (none heard since July 2023)

[follow-up at 0118: ``Right on cue, 6000 RHC ENG came up with the +/-
10 kHz about the time I hit send, and 15230 is still on, so update
Quiv RHC tx count to 2 above``].

At Quivicán:

On 6 Jan local evening, RHC Quiv was noted 2300 Z on 6000, no useful
modulation, and RHC POR on 15230. 6000 pulled the plug just before
0000Z and there was no ENG program aired after.

On 7 Jan local evening, CRI Quiv 5990 and 13650 were up
simultaneously, and RHC SPA was on 15230 during the 23 Z block, with
very low modulation; 6000 was completely missing. After 0000Z, 5990
and 15230 remained on, but still no 6000.

So, 6000 evening ENG has been missing at least couple of days now. I
haven't checked morning 6000/15230 in a few days, though they were
both reliably active as of a few days ago.

At Bauta:

15140 disappeared about 3 weeks ago; it was the "squealer" tx and was
used at times on 11760 or 11670 also. Since then 11760 has been the
prime daytime freq with the "good 25 m" tx that was previously shared
with the HM01 spook. HM01 remains unheard since October.

RHC was active on 11760 most of the afternoon 7 Jan. I wasn't around
to check for the Radio Havano Cubo ESP Sunday program at 1600 Z. It
was active with ARA at 1800 Z, HAT 1830 Z, 19-20 Z unmonitored, ENG
2000 Z, FRA 2100 Z, then it pulled the plug abruptly at 2123ish. 11760
came back around 2235 with SPA, with 9710 also found already up at
that time. 9710 then dropped off around 2353Z, while 11760 continued,
and is still on at 0105 Z.

Some days lately 11760 has been pulling the plug, seemingly randomly,
early afternoon, leaving no RHC anywhere until the 2200 Z SPA block.
Or, they may keep it active all afternoon instead.

9710 and 11760 had been showing up consistently for the morning SPA
block as of a few days ago.

For the national stations, 5025 Bauta remains off, 4765 remains on as
of 6 Jan. 4765 was "professionally DFd" to Bauta, but doesn't seem to
correlate with any major full site outages at Bauta when they
occasionally happen; the tx sites are relatively close together for DF
purposes, so it may indeed be at the usually-listed Bejucal.

So, the general trend of deterioration continues. Will the CHICOMs or
Putkin fly in some techs and fix everything, or will RadioCuba finally
run RHC SW to complete and permanent failure?

David E. Crawford
Indian River City, Florida
United States of America``
--------------------------
Thanks, David! (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** EGYPT [non]. 9439.995, Jan 8 at 2156 check into UTwente, no signal
from R. Cairo sesquihour in English. Something`s amiss at Abis. I
can`t help but notice that some editors habitually delete such `non`
logs, failing to recognize that we are documenting what stations are
doing: absences are just as significant, if not more so, than
presences. Also should be filed under the *missing* frequency for
reference purposes, rather than some other frequency active, if any
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 11514.9, Jan 8 at 1657, JBA carrier direct, no doubt
Hikari FM pirate from Arizona or Sonora; too QRP, why bother? (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY [and non]. 5960.000+, Jan 7 at 2312, into UTwente no signal
from VOT, rather only S9 Chinese on exacter frequency from XJPBS, land
of imperialist ChiCom genocide against Uighurs and other Moslems. Cf.
not quite that critical:

https://www.cbsnews.com/video/rebranding-chinas-conflicted-xinjiang-region-as-a-tourist-destination/

6125, Jan 8 at 0451, VOT English is not off, as M announcer who names
himself at start of newscasts but can never understand it, wishes us
``Merry Christmas and Happy New Year``. S9+30 direct and not exactly
measured; 0452 s/off by YL starting with correct sked: 1330 on 13635,
etc.

5960.001, Jan 8 at 2326 quick check direct, VOT not off but S9+20/30
of music. At 2347 into UTwente the badax is speaking when frequency is
measured 4 Hz lower than usual, but certainly not XJ this time,
S9+25/35. 2352 canned s/off, the one with correct B23 frequencies but
all-wrong ``UTC``s +3 hours off. Something`s always awry at Ankara.
2354 IS. 2356 restart IS with German IDs inserted but 2358* chopoff
uncovering XJPBS. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. 332 MCW kHz, Jan 8 at 0433 UT, dash and QT, the
1000-watt ND beacon at Thunder Bay ON, but another one mixing JBA --
not as expected my nearby 400-watt IC, wIChita KS, but FIS, which is
400 watts from Key West/FISh Hook FL! New to me (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2224 monitoring [Not 2244 as I
typoed last time]: Also confirmed Sunday January 7 at 2100 on IRRS SW
via AM Italia, 1323 kHz, S9 into UTwente with lite CCI, lo-power UK?
S9+15 into nearby Noale SDR, no CCI so not Romania; both register -2
Hz off.

Also confirmed UT Monday January 8 at 0030 on WRMI 7780, S8/9+10 into
Durango2 SDR - and that dang blast of ute noise for the first 14
seconds is back! On the H2Ofall it`s visibly much stronger as it is to
the ear.

Also confirmed UT Monday January 8 from 0401 on Area 51 [sic] via WBCQ
6160-, S9+20, only about one minute late, after John Lightning
gotta-go by 0400, following some anti-T**** remarx? Uncle Bill Tilford
says, ``I periodically have to remind somebodyorother that some of
WBCQ's programming swings left - John Lightning's Radio New York
International heavily so for another example. Left, Right and Center
can coexist in the same space, a concept increasingly lost on
broadcast television, mediumwave radio and in social media channels``
-- JL is on alternate weeks from 0100 and if he feels like it, can
override WOR for an extra hour. I got around to measuring direct later
before 0500: 6159.936 -- next:
0330 UT Tuesday WRMI 7780 to SW
1400 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [also web-, phonecast; jammed?]
0030 UT Wednesday WRMI 9395 to NNW
1200 UT Wednesday Unique R, NSW 5035-USB or 3210-USB
1230 UT Wednesday Unique R, NSW 5035-USB or 3210-USB
[previous #2223][SW suspended but still streamed?]
1500 UT Wednesday WRMI 9955 [unsked but reconfirmed Jan 3]
2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S
0230 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW

As noncommercial services, financial support appreciated. Thanks this
week to Chris Krug, KC5IIE, Tulsa OK, for a contribution via PayPal,
in US funds but not necessarily, to woradio at yahoo.com and says, ``I
very much appreciate all the hard work and dedication, Glenn! SWL is
alive and well thanks to your efforts. Happy 2024!``

One may also contribute via MO or check on a US bank to:
Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9350/9550, Jan 8 at 0745, very approx. span of weak splatter
out of 9455 WRMI - definitely in talk matching mod peaks rather than
9395 with music. Something`s outoforder at Okeechobee (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** U S A. 5085, Jan 8 at 0448, no signal from WTWW despite nominal
0500*; unknown if on at all this night; meanwhile, quite a uteroar
around 5081 which might justifiably complain about it. WTWW 5085 back
at 0025 check Jan 9 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 1590, Jan 8 at 0752 UT, romantic songs in Spanish
interrupted by ``Radio Clásico`` ID, i.e. WCGO Evanston IL; see my Dec
6 report. No business dominating frequency at night, 2.5 kW direxional
with a notch thisaway to the SW, rather than 10 kW daypower
nondirexional. So, is there a station in ChiCaGO called WEVN? (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic JBA MW carrier search, Jan 8 at 0437-0442
on the Wellbrook: 585, 684, 711, 774-2, 855, 891, 1053, 1089, 1107,
1566. JBA means just barely audible, which I think is a very apt
description as these cannot be evaluated numerically; yet some editors
don`t allow me to use it! (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. Re my unID Spanish Catholic on 1430, Jan 7 at 0430:
``Glenn, KSHJ 1430 in Houston is English language. GRN owned, but
programs mostly EWTN English service with local announcements
inserted. Stephen Luce, Houston, Texas``

That leaves KEES Gladewater TX, unless someone can assert it`s
English, not Spanish. Radio-locator stream link for it goes to KATH
910 Frisco! DFW market, so I check at 0120 Jan 9 to find it`s English!
BTW the NRC AM Log address for KEES is Baytown TX, i.e. Houston area,
nowhere near Gladewater; but the address for KSHJ Houston is in San
Antonio! What a mess (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
