Glenn Hauser logs March 10-11, 2024s
Tuesday, March 12 2024

Logs
** CANADA [non]. 17550, March 11 at 1431, hymn theme S3/S5 with
flutter. EiBi & Aoki show Bible Voice via Nauen, GERMANY at 1430-1500
in Nuer language, spoken in Sudan and Ethiopia (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** CHINA [and non]. 11660, March 11 at 1437, two Chinese clashing with
LAH = low audible heterodyne, totalling S9/+20. Also // 12120 at 1442,
S9+10/30 well above the JBA CCI. Both CNR1 jammers against VOA
Mandarin: 11660 via THAILAND at 1430-1500, 12120 via TINIAN at
1400-1500, per Aoki & EiBi (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 5025, UT Mon March 11 at 0649, S9+25/40, NOT Rebelde, but RHC
Spanish wrapping up `En Contacto` DX program with CW/theme music, must
have started at 0635; RHC ID and 0652 `En Compañía del Doctor`, med
advice show. WWDXC DX program sked for B23 shows `En Contacto` Sun
1435, 2335, Mon 0235 - but not 0635. I`ve heard this further repeat
before when some frequency happen to be active. The others probably
shifted an hour earlier now, on any RHC frequencies that can be found.
Also Thu 2335, needs to be confirmed. Why not Rebelde? So many RHC SW
transmitters are nearly/dead (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** KOREA SOUTH [and non]. 4885, March 11 at 1350, OSOB is JBA carrier
vs S7 noise level, Echo of Hope and/or N Korean jamming. Unfortunately
am awake this early so bandscanning. An hour+ past Enid LSR of 1247 UT
- axually 0615 LMT, but forced by legislation to call it ``7:47``
am!

49 mb still with lots of sigs mostly JBA or JBA carriers: 5915, 5925,
5945, 5955, 5965, 5975, 5980, 5990, 5995, 6000, 6015, 6030, 6035,
6045, 6055, 6065, 6070, 6075, 6100, 6105, 6125, 6145, 6165, 6180,
6185, 6190, 6200 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MALI. 5995, March 11 at 0646, no signal from ORTM, unlike the noise
blob last night, surely problems there. Hope it`s not over; at least
Mali still hosts all those ChiCom relays via Bamako. Ron Howard
replied:

``Recently Jorge Freitas (Brazil) and I have noted that Mali has been
absent. Thanks to Jorge for the alert that something was up with Mali.
I checked 5995, on March 8, after 0615+ UT and heard what sounded like
N. Korea jamming(?) (against Echo of Hope - VOH), but no Mali. Didn't
check 9635, for their later sign on. Ron

Thanks, Glenn, for your observations. You are right. Believe what I
heard was not jamming from NK, as it seemed rather early for that and
too strong. Was a significant noise whatever it was! Ron`` (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 11514.9, March 11 at 1435, JBA signal on signature
offset, no doubt pirate Hikari FM from Sonora or Arizona (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** ROMANIA. 17790, March 11 at 1433, music and presumed Romanian talk
from RRI Galbeni, S9+5/10. At first I thought WRMI carrier on earlier
than 1500, but maybe only RRI undermodulated. In any event, overlaps
1500-1600 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SAUDI ARABIA. 11915, March 11 at 1440, buzzroar at S5 but sounding
very loud, defective transmitter the earliest heard yet, presumably
failing to emit Republic of Yemen Radio. It`s a mystery why they keep
running this in such a useless condition. Perhaps bureaucratic:
transmitter ops just following orders to turn it on no matter what,
while HQ boss has no idea how it sounds? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY [and non]. 5960.005, Sunday March 10 at 2316, VOT English
not off the air, S9+35/40 and VG mod into UTwente with constant
understation XJRTV audible during talk and pauses, but not bothering
much, commentary about Gaza & Israel, 2319 outro as `Weekly Analysis`,
the various writers` names never understandable even if they be
Westerners. 2320 `ABYS` promo, music. 2325 `WYEH` promo, `Letterbox`,
top of the stack from Siddartha? location not given, but he writes
every day so mentioned repeatedly. Then Pakistan, or was that he?
Ricky Hein from somewhere in USA: I know him, SD. FL, A. Klepov from
Moscow; China. 2336 time`s up, music -- but only then, 2340 outro for
L`box, `ABYS`, 2346 `ABYS` again, music. 2350 multi-lingual ID filler
reel. 2352 s/off for the 1330 only: something`s always awry at Ankara.
2353 IS, chop at 2353.6* uncovering XJRTV, std denunciations (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY [non]. 5960.000, March 11 at 2304, NO signal from VOT
English, rather S9/+15 into UTwente of Chinese already on from XJRTV,
EAST TURKISTAN, which usually cuts on around *2311. So VOT on overrun
9610 instead? No, not there either, only S8/S9 on 9610.000 presumed
Mongolian from CNR Beijing. 2340 recheck, still no TRT on 5960.
Something`s always erroneous at Emirler. Meanwhile missed my chance to
pay more attention to tokEnglish from Spain at 2300-2330 on 9690.
Maybe I`ll find its podcast later or read all about it from kvz (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U K [non]. 21660, March 11 at 1403, OSOB mentions Modi, BJP, but
language is listed Somali from BBC; 1429 some echo past 1430. Per EiBi
& Aoki, site is VATICAN M-F at 14-15, so another instance of
abnormally bigsig in our opposite direxion. Two other sites are
involved on 21660, Sat & Sun: 12-14 Madagascar, 14-1530 UAE (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 17680, March 11 at 1939, S9+20/25 surprise signal in
Spanish, nothing in latest HFCC March 8. I was seeking some music to
nap by, maybe 17600 Algeria, till I hit this; medical discussion, then
1942, about IWD and Ukraine with a song, apparent program title
`Abriendo Espacios`. What could this be. Unsounds like RHC which
presumably supports Putin but no //s on to check, not even 15140
English. Not // Spain on 17715. VOA? Deleted SW Spanish years ago. Not
// R. Martí 13820, 11930, 11860 --- BUT at 1947 ID as ``Martinoticias
AM 1180 y onda corta``. So it is Grimesland! I recheck on another
receiver the lower Martí frequencies and they are // each other but
NOT this, altho subject is also Ukraine. Maybe same but far out of
synch, not merely a few seconds. How could that happen? 17680 off
before next check 2201. Maybe a test. If permanentized could obscure
NZ 17675, not even noticed today. Also, I occasionally check 35790 for
3 x 11930 which made it to Alberta, but mostly not even a JBA carrier
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2233 monitoring: confirmed Sunday
March 10 at 2000 on WRMI webcast only; 9955 not on until 2055 today
with IS & ID ToH loop.

Also confirmed Sunday March 10 at 2100 on WRN Europe webcast.

Also confirmed Sunday March 10 at 2100 on IRRS via AM Italia, 1322.997
kHz, S9+5/10 into UTwente across Europe. However, at 2123 recheck,
canned English IDs for 207, 918 and 1323 kHz, and correct timecheck in
Italian for 22:24, then vamp music default. Must have lost program
feed well before WOR was over! I then check UTwente and Parma for 207
& 918 but they are not on, nor ever? at least during WOR for over a
year.

Also confirmed Sunday March 10 from 2231.5 on SW Radio, Germany,
3975.002, S9/+5 into UTwente; preceded by ADDX in German, and before
that US hamnews in English.

Also confirmed UT Monday March 11 at 0030 on WRMI 7780, S9+10/15 into
Durango2 SDR, better than usual there.

Also confirmed UT Monday March 11 from 0300 sharp on Area 51 via WBCQ
6159.931, S9+5 into NH SDR.

Also confirmed Monday March 11 at 2030 on SW Radio, Germany, 3975.002,
S9 into UTwente. Next:

0330 UT Tuesday WRMI 7780 to SW
1300 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [also web-, phonecast; jammed?]
2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW
1200 UT Wednesday Unique R, NSW 5035-USB or 3210-USB
1230 UT Wednesday Unique R, NSW 5035-USB or 3210-USB
[previous #2232][SW suspended but still streamed?]
2030 UT Wednesday SW Radio, Germany 3975
2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW,
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW
1730 UT Thursday SW Radio, Germany 3975

UNIDENTIFIED. 11580, March 11 at 1436, some noise, not DRM, but
jamming? Sound of Hope 11580.1 attracts ChiCom jamming but normally AM
programming, not noise. EiBi shows Turkish jamming but would also be
AM programming, if and when Dengê Gel land here among other spots in
the 11.5s+. BTW, 11580 was once WRMI`s only 25mb frequency, long
abandoned. WRMI total absence from 11 & 13 MHz bands is really
strange, as would be much better than 9 MHz in daytime (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

THE TINY TRAP

``Taiwan - this tiny island``, says Fareed Zakaria in his concluding
commentary on an otherwise excellent CNN program, `Taiwan - Unfinished
Business`, ``of 24 million people``. TINY? Come on, neither by area
nor pop, unless Tiny has a wholly different meaning
