NIGERIA Re: VON Plans Antenna Reactivation, Broader African Broadcast.
These politicians are reporting from Africa, which is always very vague to assess from there. The condition of all technical facilities since the construction of shortwave Abuja in the autumn of 2006 is certainly not the best in this humid climate. In the transmitter building, there are currently three TSW2300 from Thomson (250 kW, 5.9-26 MHz). They are full DRM ready. Currently they have "only" the curtain antenna. Its a 16-dipole array with azimuth of 0 degr and the other 16-dipole array with azimuth of 285 degr. The beam can be switched to +15 degr, +30 degr and -15 degr, -30 degr. There is another antenna in work. It will be a rotatable antenna ... its a huge antenna with 32 dipoles, 16 for high and 16 for lowbands ... Subject: Re: [WOR] VON Plans Antenna Reactivation, Broader African Broadcast No, V of Nigeria`s last frequency was 7255 for several years, now gone for a few years. It was easily heard here from just before 0600. VON in DRM? Vaguely recall 15120. I never heard it. The 8 languages currently claimed are certainly imaginary. Nigeria really needs to bring it's global radio reach back to life, and it needs a big financial and technical boost to make it happen.
Last we heard them, they were noted on 11770 a few years ago... Joe Hanlon, NJ USA On Fri, Jun 20, 2025, 1:12 AM Alokesh Gupta via groups.io <alokeshgupta=gmail.com@groups.io> wrote:
