EiBi shows Sound of Hope at 2130-1500 on 21550, but not a CNR1 jammer which this surely be. No 13 or 15 MHz frequencies on. 11760 *still* windhowling at 0713 UT Dec 10, S9+5 direct, and the OSOB (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 13650, Dec 9 at 2300, RIC s/on in Portuguese, music. So yesterday`s CRI English relay indeed an anomaly. Not on the air before 2300 either. Also music Dec 10 at 2302 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA [non]. 11860, Dec 9 at 2303, R. Martí with news on the hour? Of course not! Discussing stupid ballgames as its primary format, Los Dodgers de Los Ángeles. Hmm, is there any way to say Dodgers in Spanish? ``Los que evitan?``. Google translate insists the Spanish word is also dodgers. They have a hard time pronouncing the -dg- like we do (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA [non]. 5980, Dec 10 at 1340, no signal from R. Martí. At 1350 I do find it active on 7435 and 11930 with bigsigs, open carrier on 13570. Not on 9805 either; 6030 something JBA surely else. I am unfortunately awake from 1330 tnx to a noisy roofing crew across the street tearing off shingles. I am checking this as result of NASWA Flashsheet item, to which I already replied in the WOR iog, viz.: ``5980. PERU Radio Chaski, 1357, 12/1. Man speaking carefully and deliberately. Faded in and out. (Coomler, AZ) == Bob Coomler, Tucson, AZ. Equipment: Perseus SDR, Wellbrook ALA1530LN loop`` gh: I don`t recall ever seeing this reported in recent years. WRTH 2025 p 347 does list it as OBX4M, 1 kW at 11-02; not in EiBi, but Aoki does show it: 5980 1000-1500 PRU Radio Chaski Spa Urubamba, C 1-7 5980 2200-0103 PRU Radio Chaski Spa Urubamba, C 1-7 [daily from Cusco] Neither Aoki nor EiBi has anything else on 5980 on air at this time, but that`s 9 am in Perú, a bit late for low-power prop ~3h after LSR. And not to be confused with Bolivia`s R Mosoj Chaski on 3310. I would want more definite log info to assume this! {He does not even specify a language.} If active during those hours, someone should more easily DX it over all-night path. BTW, chaski means receiver in Quechua. Shouldn`t it mean transmitter? BTW2, WWCR makes a leapfrog mixing product on 5980, but only when 5890 & 5935 are both on, certainly not at this time, but has fooled some DXers as something more exotic. [Later:] Aha, 5980 is also in HFCC for R Marti at 1100-1400; may or may not be active or reliable currently from Greenville. Need to check it!`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** JAPAN. 28555 USB, Dec 9 at 2317, JG1OUT Tokyo making a contact; his regular frequency and the highest OUTlier normally heard on 10m USB phone. This is also reduced to one hour a week but had been missing a while. Announcer speaks with a heavy accent, I guess Castilian, making French sound rough rather than smooth. REE advance program sked agrees on French now and ENGLISH tomorrow, UT Wednesday. They still don`t introduce us to the new spEEkers. 12030 is the only usable frequency despite beamed away toward ME, as NAm channel 9690 remains imaginary. Alan Roe did hear English online Wed Dec 10 at 1100 UT, and the new announcers are named Daniel Riobóo, and Alba Cuéllar. 12030, Wed Dec 9 at 2300, REE timesignal and immediately into English, S9 fading to S5 direct, making copy tough. 17715 & 17755 are but JBA carriers while 9690 to NAm is still imaginary. Daniel sounds like a male, altho a photo caption implied female. Will listen later to podcast. Some discussion of this today in the WOR iog: Bill Tilford: ``Online only at this hour, but REE is on in English again as I type (11:07 UTC) Escucha RNE Radio Exterior en DIRECTO 🎧`` ``I'm also checking REE online at 1100 UT, with two new hosts: Daniel Riobóo and a lady whose name I cannot fully catch - something like Helva Queyar. English on shortwave scheduled at 2300 UT. Ah - her name is Alba Cuéllar - as established by the live stream thumbnail. I assume that's her in the image alongside Marilyn Quintana. I did enjoy the English hour online this morning, and hopefully listeners can catch it on shortwave later today at 2300 UT. I have however commented to Daniel and Alba concerning the presentation style. There was too much background music heard, especially during the interviews, which became a little intrusive and I think that when heard on shortwave it could become a problem for listeners to fully understand. I have pointed out that shortwave reception, even on good days, is usually not the clearest with noise and fading, so it is preferable to not have background music during the interview segments and that perhaps it would be better just to fade in snippets of the music between natural pauses in the conversation. Alan Roe, Teddington, UK`` ``That’s a valid critique, Alan. I find that often the background music is too loud, and a peeve with NPR news programs is that the music fades up too soon, as if we always needed a reminder that the report or interview is about to end. And of course on shortwave it makes hearing and understanding even harder. Nevertheless, I'm glad the English broadcast is back. I like to use some of the news in my radio magazine “EuroBureau” on our local community FM radio station, kmud.org. I’m not well set up for shortwave listening anymore, I find RNE English at https://www.rtve.es/play/audios/english-language-broadcast/ Simon Frech`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 5960, Dec 9 at 2257, VOT IS, S9+15/20 direct, not off the air, unreadable vs noise level (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 5960, Dec 10 at 2259, no signal from VOT English direct, but is on at 2320 check with music, S9+10/20 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 28250 CW, Dec 9 at 2306, very slow beacon with unusual message: READ BIBLE DE KI6MTV/B.
