** CANADA. 1290, Jan 18 before and after 0800 UT, South Asian songs, no ID heard. NRC AM Log does not show any US or Canadian station with such a format on 1290. However, CFRW Winnipeg has just changed hands into such a format! See Jon Pearkins` Canadian Radio News, via NRC DX News Dec 30:
``1290 CFRW MB Winnipeg – First reported back on the air, somewhat intermittently, with a testing audio loop on December 15 with 1 kW, going off the air at 1739. Back on the air by the next day with 10 kW, presumably using their licensed day and night patterns, as Akash, the new owners, purchased the transmitter site from Bell. And began being heard in Europe by several DXers. Akash staff is saying that the station will officially launch in February. Already using the same ‘Connect’ branding/slogan as co-owned CKER-FM Edmonton, AB: “Connect AM 1290.” Another slogan being heard is “Asli Radio,” which means “Real Radio” in Punjabi. On October 16, the CRTC approved the sale of CFRW by Bell to Akash and granted a license that expires August 31 2031. This contradicts the October 10 CRTC decision that states “New licences issued after the publication of this regulatory policy will also receive indefinite licences.“ With its standard Commercial Radio License, CFRW can broadcast no more than 19 hours per Broadcast Week of ethnic programming, defined as not in English, French or Indigenous languages. There is no restriction on the overnight period, Midnight to 6:00 AM, as it is not considered part of the Broadcast Week. CFRW began as CJQM-1470 on November 1, 1963, as a clone of CHQM-1320 in Vancouver BC. But never saw the ratings or advertising success of CHQM. CJQM had lost one million dollars and, in November 1969, became “the only radio station in North America ever to go bankrupt” (The Globe and Mail, Toronto Ontario, February 12, 1970)`` 10 kW day and night patterns supposedly restrict signal to the south, per: https://radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=CFRW&service=AM&s=F&h=N (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 11760, Jan 18 at 0134, RHC windhowl only and 11880 S7 of dead air. WORLD OF RADIO 2330 monitoring: Confirmed Saturday January 17 at 2030 on SW Radio Gold, Germany, 3975, JBA into Bedford UK SDR, not UTwente. Also confirmed Saturday January 17 at 2030 on WRN via WRMI 9395, S7/S9 into N9AZZ IL remote. After Feature Story News at 2059, chopped for ID, WOR 2330 plays *again* at 2100 on WRMI 9395, presumably not from WRN, altho also on WRN Europe stream at this time. Not started by 2030 Saturday January 17 on WA0RCR, 1860 AM, MO: very difficult to detect via available SDRs; St Louis one has it best but times out too quickly. JBA at 2121 into KM4RT west TN SDR, so the 2030v may have just started. Also confirmed Saturday January 17 at 2205 the 2200 on WRMI 9395, S9/+10 into Maryland SDR - the third time in two hours; OK! Happened to awaken at 1050 so checked 9510 direct for the 1030 on IRRS SW: JBA, could be me. But confirmed: ``Here is the following reception report of World of Radio Via IRRS Milan on SW: 9510 18/1 1054 IRRS-Milan, RO-Tiganesti Px WOR 2330. E 55555. As a noncommercial public service program, financial support appreciated. Thanks this week to Terry Colgan of Texas Radio SW for a contribution via PayPal to woradio at yahoo.com, and says, ``Thanks for another year of dedication to keeping listeners and DXers up to date on the state of shortwave radio.`` One may also contribute by MO or check on a US bank to Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 5129.94, Jan 18 at 0056. `Radio TimTron Worldwide` ending, ``stay tuned for `Fred Flintstone` on *7415*``, a long-gone WBCQ frequency so this RTTWW must also be very old (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. Re WBCQ 7490: ``Supposedly off after 0500*`` --- I have no basis to assert or even predict that this will happen, but if 9330-related revenue stops coming in, their mostly self-financed-so-far Radio Angela 2.0 on 6160 would be a controllable expense, and moving some of it to 7490 after hours and shutting off 6160 might actually make sense. Did the transmitter go off after 0516 or continue with something else?`` -- Bill Tilford. I did not monitor further; let`s hear what happen tonight: 0500 UT Sunday Jan 18, 7490 goes from `SW Sat Night`, to `The Devil`s Advocate` instead of turning off as on sked, with T.D.A. shown as 0400 UT Saturdays. Still on at 0526. Not really listening to it; assumed still the show as introduced. Rather poor reception even inaudible unto Maryland SDR, but poor into KM4RT TN. I suspect 7490 be underpowered. Off by next check 0633, probably around 0600. Bill Tilford: ``So much for Radio Angela 2.0 there. That show makes The Proud Boys look like McGovern Democrats by comparison`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. ``Glenn: — "880 -- this must be KJOZ Conroe TX". Format-of-the-Month club. If I'm recalling this correctly, it seems KJOZ "La Calle" was a moniker for a Latino-Hits type musical slate targeting the young folks — and before that I seem to recall KJOZ being Spanish-Religious. I did hear snippets of what sounded like a SS-Sports presence on 880 a few nights ago, via the Mississippi SDR, and just assumed it was KJOZ (not WIJR, which seems to be pretty much pure Regional Mexican). So, either all that, or my imagination is laboring overtime. 73z de the other G H`` - Greg Hardison (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 1959 UT January 18
