Logs
** CUBA. 15140, Aug 17 at 1831, S5/S7 direct of dead air in Kriyol?
from RHC. At least the transmitter is on, that`s half the battle,
auguring well for English at 1900? No, at 1932 into Missouri SDR,
still dead air at S9/+10 - or maybe a trace of talk with all volumes
at max! But could be crossmod from elsewhere. Something`s always wrong
at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** GUATEMALA. 28228+, Aug 17 at 2108, DE TG9TEN/B, very long pauses.
WGB list: ``28228.3 TG9TEN/B - Guatemala City GTM EK44mv - #0 (16 Mar
2024) Note: ID + grid - HTX 100 1w into A99 vertical``. No other
beacons but lots of phone on 10m now, e.g, q.v. VIRGIN ISLANDS (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** INTERNATIONAL WATERS [non]. 7268 LSB, Aug 17 at 0608, Hurricane
Watch Net; good of them to keep far enough away from 7260 R Vanuatu.
It seems the NCS has several specific texts with exactly same wording,
calling for check-ins with callsigns from affected areas. Or calling
for low power or portable stations. Even mentions SW listeners!
Welcomes both measured observations and not. 0618 mentions Hurricane
Ernesto. Day channel 14325 [USB] will activate at 7:30 am EDT = 1130
UT. This NCS has been N8NIF. More info at HWN.org Then around 0630 two
others discuss who will take over: W1ABW, WF4H. Very few of the
checkins audible here, just the NCSes. Was hoping to hear Bermuda.

14325 USB not checked until 1813, 1833, nothing heard, and website
shows not active at that time. Uplooking calls at QRZ.com, the last
two do mention HWN:
N8NIF USA flag USA, RICHARD K SEELEY, 1549 ROSEWOOD, JENISON, MI 49428
W1ABW USA flag USA, DOUGLAS H "Doug" HOGE, 15 LAUREL DR, VOLUNTOWN, CT
06384-2015
WF4H USA flag USA, Dwight A Greenberg, 5320 Shadwell Ave, Cocoa, FL
32926
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 27184.825, 27224.51, 27285.17 all AM and approx., Aug 17
at 1820+, Enid CB pirate relaying 105.5 FM translator K288FX of KYLV,
K-Love, 88.9 OKC. All are S9, first two undermodulated, third JB
modulated. Daily chex had not heard any of these since August 6. I do
wonder if K288FX really pick up KYLV direct as it`s flanked by two
other Enid translators on 88.7 and 89.1 (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** SAUDI ARABIA. 11935.416, Aug 17 at 2017, Yemen Radio loud and clear
S9+15/20 in Arabic into UTwente. Off by next check 2130 (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** SOUTH CAROLINA [non]. 9930, Aug 17 at 1837, TOMBS resumed on WTWW
after missing yesterday, S9/+25 and // 9980 WWCR, equally huge
Overkiller, and 9930 running 7 seconds behind 9980. So if you hear
something on 9980 and can`t believe your ears, you have 7 seconds to
hear it again on 9930, how convenient (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785.004, Aug 17 at *2157 VOT not off the air, IS & IDs,
S9+15/20 into UTwente, not checked direct. 2200 timesignal, date as
today and s/on the 1230 on 17620, the only SW broadcast they ever
mention despite several repeats including this one. Something`s always
awry at Ankara. 2201 news leads with forest fire under control; Gaza
attax by Israel. 2213 `The Energy Agenda`, record oil produxion in
Turkey, statistix. 2217 music. 2221 multi-lingual ID filler reel. 2223
song. 2227 ``with-you-every-hour`` promo, music. 2233 `Turkey`s
Geomarked Products` repeat about weaving patterns. 2235 song. 2239
``always-by-your-side`` promo, more music... (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 17530, Sat Aug 17 at 1814, SSOB S9/+10 English interview on
phone with African accents about Nigeria, chopped amid at 1830* for
VOA, WDC s/off with YDD once. Beyond me why VOA doesn`t correlate
transmission breaks with programming breaks, far from the only
instance of this. O, I get it, SW is only an inconsequential appendage
to other platforms! HFCC not updated since Aug 12! Shows GB =
Grimesland NC, daily at 1700-1830 in English; 1830 switch to Ascension
for Kinyarwanda, but nothing heard now since that is M-F only (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2256 monitoring: confirmed UT

** VIRGIN ISLANDS US [and non]. 28395.1 USB, Aug 17 at 2111,
``Ed/V.I.`` is the ``ID`` most often used by this strange station,
contest contacts, eventually says home call is K9VV and club call is
NP2X --- where?? Finally says US Virgin Islands, even tho none of his
calls are specific to there! Says 100 watts. QRZ.com: ``K9VV US Virgin
Islands flag US Virgin Islands, FREDERICK H KLEBER, Gallows Bay
Station, PO BOX 24275, Christiansted, VI 00824-0275, USA. Please QSL
NP2X (NP2X also uploads to LoTW) VIA  K U 9 C  PO Box 529, Mount
Freedom, NJ  07970-0529. NP2X works thousands of folks in contests.
Look forward to working you!! Very 73, Fred, K9VV / NP2X``. Yes, sure
sounded like Ed, not Fred. Lots of other phoners on 10m now, such as
on 28520.14, PY4H## in Brasuguese against a very noisy background
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Glenn Hauser logs August 16-17, 2024  View Printable Version
Saturday, August 17 2024

Logs
** CHINA. 15800, Aug 16 at 0627, JBA carrier. Presumably CNR1 jammer
vs Sound of Hope; I was thinking maybe the lowpower in Denmark which I
have never traced, but that`s really on 15700 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 5025, Aug 16 at 0634, S9+15/25 of dead air in Spanish, fourth
night in a row of R. Rebelde quietude. Something`s always wrong at
RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** FRANCE [non]. 13735 & 7340, Aug 16 at 1511 direct and 1524 into
UTwente, no signals from Mini TransAt marine weather. Rather, UTwente
shows a JBA S6 carrier on 7340.008. EiBi and Aoki show that would be
PBS Xinjiang, Urumqi in Kazakh, from East Turkistan, std denunciation.
Canary SDR antenna must be disconnected. No signals to Bermuda either.
I had no better luck Aug 15 during same hour (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** GUADELOUPE. 21223 USB, Aug 16 at 2208, FG5GP with pileup, quick
contacts including an EI+ from Ireland; power 200 watts. QRZ.com:
``FG5GP Guadeloupe flag Guadeloupe, ALAIN ROBERT, 14 LOT LES COLIBRIS
CONVENANCE, 97122 BAIE MAHAULT, Guadeloupe`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6938 USB, Aug 17 at 0039, JBA talk, 0040 song, S7 =
HSNL. These say it`s Goat Herder Radio:
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,132627
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6950 USB, Aug 17 at 0038, yelling rock music, S8/S9
vs high storm noise level. Many logs here as Thunder Chicken Radio:
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,132626
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** PANAMA [and non]. 28282 CW, Aug 16 at 2202, JBA beacon starts with
HP-, all I can copy, but no doubt HP1DCP/B, as logged Aug 6 at 2205.
The OBOB as our F2 Panamá pipeline resumes. Also one phone on 28430
USB with extremely colloquial Brasuguese, CQ 10, could not copy his
PY- call, about double the distance of Panamá (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 17855, Fri Aug 16 at 2200, token English from SNR, VG
S9+20/30 direct and the other three audible, preview interview with an
American expatriate who is also a local official in Madrid, where he
has stayed because of girlfriend. 2201.5 news starts with M-pox
spreading to Sweden, Pakistan, from DR Congo. 2225 he muses on good
and bad aspects of living in Spain - watch out for false-friends, like
``constipado`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785, Aug 16 at 2158, VOT not off the air, IS & ID in
English, S9+20/10 direct would be sufficient if one upput with local
noise level. After olds, 2212 `Review of the Turkish Press`; Much
better into UTwente, at 2221 in `Folk Tales`. 2227 music, 2228
``always-by-your-side`` promo. 2229 `That`s Why`,   with Efsun the
accentuated; can`t really follow it, but something about the Lira as a
unit of weight, currency, but also mentions the constellation Libra -
? 2236 music. 2249 ``always-by-your-side`` again. 2253 s/off ignoring
SW, IS once and chop at 2254* (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [non]. 7495, Aug 17 at 0041 YL in S Asian? language S9/+10
direct about same level as neighbor 7490- WBCQ. EiBi & Aoki show it`s
VOA R Ashna in Pashto to Iran via Lampertheim, GERMANY, this semihour
only.

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2256 monitoring: confirmed Friday
August 16 at 2030 on IRRS ``Shortwave`` via AM Italia, 1322.994+ kHz,
S8.5/9.5 into UTwente, following Wavescan and music buffer.

Also confirmed Friday August 16 at 2222 on WRMI 9955, S5/S8, no
jamming audible, off the back into Maryland SDR, as TWR Bonaire SDR is
often tied up.

Also confirmed Friday August 16 at 2244 the 2230 on SW Gold Radio,
Germany, 3975.001-, S9+10/15 into UTwente.

Note that coincidentally, we are at 0300v three nights in a row on
three stations, WTWW, WA0RCR, WBCQ - almost four with 0330 on WRMI.
Next:

0300 UT Saturday WTWW 5085 [ex 0400!];

** U S A. 9930, Aug 16 at 1523, no signal from WTWW, which was
supposedly active from 1500 with TOMBS and heard later yesterday;
still not on by 1900. I did hear 5920 come up about 0101 or 0102, tho
George was allowing 3 minutes to make the change. Finally at 2015 I
notice 9930 is on the air, but VP signal into the ATS-909 vs noise
level. Comes up stronger by 2017: maybe power is being turned up, or
prop vagaries. 9475 is even poorer. At 2025 into PEI SDR, 9930 is S6,
9475 is JBA S5. How do their azimuths and lobes compare?? (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. Pre-`AAAWWW` check of WBCQs, Aug 16 from 2350, into NH SDR:
no signal on 3265, but waterfall shows some kind of noise blob
3239-3269, at 2354 jumping down to 3217-3242. 5130 no signal, so we
expect a rerun. 6160 -71 Hz = 6159.929 music presumably TOMBS. 7490
-72 Hz = 7489.928, S9+10 with FKB. I keep listening to 7490-, 2359
1-minute-tone-warning and he wraps up quickly, then some `Chariots of
Fire` music and WBCQ ID.

Aug 17 from 0000, WTO theme and AW talks about ``messing up the
airwaves``, which is how he opened last week, see that report and
never mind now. 3265 & 5130 still off. Sometimes reruns are disclaimed
as such before playback but can`t depend on that, nonesuch this time.
I let it run in background and at 0024 notice that there is again OTH
radar clickery QRM unavoidably audible, and visible on waterfall
covering 7472-7494; one might suspect ``jamming`` or at least some op
with no respect for WBCQ. Continues rest of hour, into Hal Turner
after 0100. But no OTHR audible direct (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 889 & 891 kHz, Aug 16 at 0642, JBA carriers flanking
WLS. Requires very careful tuning up & down in USB & LSB, no visual
display. Therefore presumably the Cuban with spurs, not Algeria on 891
only. However, unheard at 0652. But at 0821 wakeup, 891 audible, a
further clue to Cuba, surely too late for Algeria. However, earlier,
891 could still be Algeria and/or Cuba. Also still carriers on 631 and
1141, IDed previously as off-frequency Cubans (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
