A Replacement DX Test For KBOZ 1090 |
|
Tuesday, April 28 2020

Thanks Paul and others involved in setting this up. That the first test (KBOZ) isn't happening, at least right away, is no big deal. Everyone has to understand that, with the health and economic crises out there, nothing can be expected to go without hitches and glitches. We can look forward to the KJJR test. I suspect that WCBS will be a show-stopper on this end but who knows? Morse code or sweep tones coupled with a lucky fade might do magic. If T-storms are reasonably far off, I'll be recording 880 audio 0600-0700 UTC Saturday morning. Lower sideband probably does best to dodge 882 BBC R. Wales. 1090 would have been similarly challenging with WBAL dominating, LSB marred by 1089 TalkSport, and USB mucked over by IBOC from 1080 WTIC. It will consist of morse code, sweep tones, along with various telephone sound effects There will be no paper QSL's issued for this test. Only emailed confirmation. Send an email to walkerbroadcasting@gmail.com with "KJJR 880 DX Test" in the email (You MUST put that in that subject line so I don't accidentally delete it thinking its spam!). The reply will likely be a simple email reply with details of the station and confirming the details of what/when you heard it. You WILL get a reply from me in due course, please give me some time! This is done on short notice and being kept simple as to not burden anyone involved. Thanks to Les Rayburn for creating the test material and Todd Clark for generously offering up the station. I've already seen communication between him and the station, asking them to block out an hour from the logs, so he can tinker around with things at the tower site. I know, I know.. we've had a few false starts on DX tests, but I can only do what I can do. Any questions? Email me and I'll be glad to answer. KBOZ 1090 KHZ DX Test Cancelled |

I knew there was the possibility that the station would go off before the end of the month. They have more then sufficiently satisfied the requirements to be on the air and save the license

KBOZ 1090 KHZ DX Test Cancelled |
|
Monday, April 27 2020
This station has been off the air, pending some changes in licensing. On the advice of their attorney, they will remain off the air for the time being—so unfortunately the test is cancelled.
Thanks to Paul Walker, who has unselfishly used his broadcasting industry contacts to arrange so many tests for all of us. John Johnson who helped Paul make the connection, and Jon Pearkins who relayed the news while I was busy to the club publishers. Real team effort! Please note that DX Tests are often arranged at the last minute during maintenance periods, outages, and other unplanned events. The only way to ensure that you receive notifications is to subscribe to the e-mail lists. Whenever possible, tests will be scheduled with sufficient notice to get them into printed publications. Here is more information about their use of morse code identifications from now on: "Hi Jim, I've implemented the morse ID jingle in my program! When I don't play music on Album AM, 4 different jingles play in random order every exactly 2 min. When I play music, the random jingles are set to approx. 10 min. depending on the lenght of a track (timeout), never during a track. I've set the morse volume level @ -0,6 dB so pretty strong. Because of the lenght of the jingle, I've chosen 15 WPM @ 1 Khz. Grtz, René (pe0rbe)."
