Sunday, July 30 2023
** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98 RC USB, July 29 at 1756, LRA36 already on with music for a regular Saturday broadcast, S6/S8 into Argentine SDR. After another internet outage here, at 1809 talking about weather and how cold Base Esperanza has been in midwinter, -25 and -35 C. Which reminds me to turn on my AC: 98F outside, 82 inside, tolerable but getting uncomfortable. 1813 to song, and live greetings with full ID, `Uniendo Voces` with staff present named. On a windy afternoon, 25 kph, only -13 C. 1817 about other Base, Marambio, where there are birthdays. 1826 LRA36 ID with reverb, music, then RAE multi-lingual ID, back to chat, about two FM stations inside Argentina relaying this. 1829 greeting listeners including Manuel Méndez in Spain. Crediting Univ. Nac. de Quilmes for produxion. 1830 contact info, whatsapp, email, website. Renovation of program, Estudio 9. 1845 interviewing a child. 1850 song. At 1905 it`s still -13. Next check at 2054, still going but weakening. Allegedly also scheduled now before 18 on Fridays, unchecked here July 28 nor any reports of it (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. 11760, July 29 at 0704, RHC extension still on, in Spanish, S9/+10 and somewhat undermodulated. Also unusually with dirty parasitic spurs plus/minus 3 kHz. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** GUAM. 11590, July 29 at 1457, unID language, fair signal and off. This one really was KTWR in Kazakh at 1445-1500 per EiBi, as I tuned on to 11880, see SWAZILAND (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NORTH AMERICA. 6869.912 AM, July 29 at 0639, much better signal than before from pirate presumed Late Night Lunatix, S9+10/20 direct in a song. Many more logs now in HFUnderground, this date: https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,116418.0.html (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NORTH AMERICA. 6964.00, July 29 at 0645, JBA carrier seems silent, probably a pirate. At HFU many logs around this frequency going back years, but nothing tonight (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA. 1600 kHz, Saturday July 29 at 1506 UT, KUSH Cushing, not with ``Americana`` main music format, but story about bison, 1607 outro National Native News! and ID as Native Voice One, the native American radio network, right into drumming & chanting past 1515. What could be more ``Americana`` than this? NNN had a CPB funding credit, as mostly on public radio. Kudos to private/commercial KUSH for devoting at least an hour a week to this. https://www.1600kush.com/ leads to listen link: http://crystalout.surfernetwork.com:8001/KUSH_MP3 which I switch to as more convenient and hifi than off-air direct 1600. Website has everything except a plain old program sked, but see this: https://www.1600kush.com/onair/native-air-with-hugh-foley 1524 another ID and more drumchant: lots of tribes do that so I can`t guess which one now. 1533 National Native News again, in English; 1546 solo singing amid internet outages provided by subOptimum. By 1555 more Native News, about Guatemala. More outage until 1609 check now with gospel huxter (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA. 90.1, KUCO: I had been catching up on episodes of `A Day to Remember` via ``samples`` on the PRX website, but that halted in June, so I asked KUCO about it. As a result they are now available via own website: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/a-day-to-remember/id1699463301 as of Sat July 29 apparently only the past 5 weekday 2-minute episodes (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR) ** SWAZILAND. 11880, July 29 at 1458, TWR music box IS, S3/S7, ID may have mentioned pending language. Thought it would be KTWR, but no, per EiBi it`s Manzini in Somali, and via longpath across Indian & Pacific Oceans. See also GUAM (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) See GUAM ** U S A. 8992 USB, July 29 at 0646-0649* lengthy alfanumeric cryptic US military message, training? with self-imposed whine, concluding ID: ``Assembly`` always a new word, never repeating? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2201 monitoring: confirmed what is now first SWBC, UT Saturday July 29 at 0130 on WRMI 5850, S9+20 direct. Also confirmed, Saturday July 29 at 1609 the 1600 on WRN N America webcast. Also confirmed, Saturday July 29 at 1935 on WA0RCR, 1860 AM, MO, about 14 minutes into so started early circa 1921; so much storm noise from north central MO that I could barely hear me, referring to Singapore as a marker. Earlier at 1931 I thought it wasn`t me: of course, Vern has to interrupt every dekaminute with his own ID. Next: 0030 UT Sunday WRMI 7780 to SW 0245vUT Sunday WA0RCR 1860-AM [nominal 0315; as late as 0457] 1330 UT Sunday WRMI 9955 to SSE [also phonecast, webcast][jammed by Cuba?] 2000 UT Sunday IRRS 1323 & 918? & 207?-Italy 0030 UT Monday WRMI 7780 to SW 0300vUT Monday WBCQ Area 51 6160v to WSW 0030 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW 2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW 1000 UT Wednesday Unique R, NSW 5035-LSB 1030 UT Wednesday Unique R, NSW 5035-LSB [previous #2200] 2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW 0030 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW Thanks this week to William T Hassig, Mt Prospect IL, ``Congrats on 2200 World of Radios`` with a generous check in US funds on a US bank to: Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 One may also contribute via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds to: woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. Re 9955, WRMI, Friday July 28 at 2323, what I heard was not Backwoods Radio, so never mind that link, but Backroads Radio as Mike M advises at 0113 UT July 29: ``[WOR] Backroads Radio on WRMI Repeats Same Two Songs --- Just listened to WRMI 9455 kHz at 0100 UT Saturday. It is Backroads Radio. It repeats the same two songs over and over. Not sure what is up with that.`` --- Backroads Radio is on the WRMI skeds a few various times, but *not* when I heard it; nothing on the Programming page (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 11487 USB, July 29 at 0707, VP 2-way in English including a YL voice, rather informal, including some tones at cambios. Heard before on same frequency: Russian numbers station in 2018y per Observer, Bulgaria, and various other reports. I recall hearing 2-way English before but can`t find it; maybe slightly different frequency (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report despatched at 2358 UT July 29

** CHINA. 9545, July 28 at 2321, Chinese maybe echoing, S7/S9 with heavy flutter. That would be CNR1 jamming against RFA Tibetan via Tajikistan. Several similar sigs on 31m band only, the sweet spot now for such propagation. BTW Aoki still has Solomon Islands the only other on 9545, at 22-05, but believed inactive, not reported in longtime (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. 11760, July 28 at 0715, overtime RHC Spanish S9+10 but JBM. Something`s always wrong at RHC. It`s the only log I make this late-night due to horrible S9+10 noise level all over the bands: suspect from neighbor and/or thru power lines. I may have to rely even more on remote receivers, but many of them also have `line noise` problems. Abated by 15 UT enough to tell that propagation is now degraded (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 15230, July 28 at 2316, RHC S9/+10 of dead air. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SPAIN. 17855, Fri July 28 at 2200, token English from SNR, intro as interview with some French composer/singer living in Spain, still no news. Good into Maryland SDR, confirmed also active on 17715, 15520, 11670 and over to TURKEY instead (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 11785.006, July 28 at *2159, VOT tries to start, cuts right off, comes back at *2201 to stay on 11785.009. Heavy modulation almost tolerable distortion in talk, horrible in music. Top news about Niger coup. 2210 `Review of Turkish Press`. 2212.5 music. 2220 multi-lingual ID filler reel. 2222 `Feeling Supreme/The Healing Spring`, repeat about persimmons. 2229 music. 2234 ``Always By Your Side`` promo. 2238 `Did You Know That`, by badax, repeat about WWI peace treaty during Ottoman Empire. 2242 two more distorted musix. 2249 ``With You Every Hour`` promo, music. 2253 always defective s/off announcement, fragment of IS chopped off at 2254.6*, no finesse. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2201 monitoring. WRMI 9955 JBA Fri July 28 at 1455, enough to tell it`s not WOR for the third week tho still on the websked. Confirmed Friday July 28 at 2051 the 2030 on IRRS SW via AM Italia, 1323 kHz only, still no 918 or 207; S9/+15 with a few storm crashes and only slight CCI presumably England. Next: 0130 UT Saturday WRMI 5850 to NW 1930vUT Saturday WA0RCR 1860-AM 0030 UT Sunday WRMI 7780 to SW 0245vUT Sunday WA0RCR 1860-AM [nominal 0315; as late as 0457] 1330 UT Sunday WRMI 9955 to SSE [also phonecast, webcast][jammed by Cuba?] 2000 UT Sunday IRRS 1323 & 918? 9955, Fri July 28 at 2323, WRMI with email in English for, I think, backwoodsradioshow@gmail.com certainly not RAE relay in Portuguese as claimed thrice in schedule grids. No such name anywhere on the skeds, nor on the Programming page. We do wish Jeff would assign someone to keeping his displayed skeds up to date. Assumed music, but maybe this drama podcast I searched out: https://www.backwoodspod.com/ with horrible disgusting illustrations, nothing about WRMI, and a different email (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. (7490), UT Sat July 29 at 0000 on WBCQ webcast, minute of dead air after lo-fi feed from FKB gospel huxter finishes; 0001 JIP `AAAWWW` theme, and soon obvious it`s a repeat of last week where he goes political despite audience hating it. Is it quadricast again? At least I recheck sigs into Maryland SDR: 7490 -72 Hz = 7489.928; 6160 -68 Hz = 6159.932; 5130 & 3265, no signals, just storm crashes (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 0048 UT July 29

** AUSTRALIA [and non]. 10125 USB, July 27 at 0653, Oz accented hams again in QSO or net but JBA and still can`t copy any individual calls; on same frequency CW is HK3QQ, Bogotá, slowly sending letters in keyboard sequence with errors (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** COLOMBIA. 5909.952, July 27 at 0641, tropical music at S8/S9, better signal than usual from always off-frequency Alcaraván Radio. Brief burst of ``running water`` ute QRM. Manuel Méndez in Spain reports: ``Alcaravan Radio 5910 on air again after about 10 days out. Log in Oleiros, La Coruña, NW of Spain, Sangean ATS-909X, cable antenna, 8 meters. COLOMBIA, 5910, Alcaraván Radio, Puerto Lleras, 0450-0526, 27-07, religious and Latin American songs, Spanish, religious comments, Colombian songs “Llaneras”. 25432.`` However, I don`t think it had been totally off. In regular bandscans I had been crossing a JBA offset carrier, but not logged. Now there is also a JBA carrier on 6010, probably Brasil rather than still inactive sibling station LV de tu Conciencia. Ron Howard also replied: ``Greetings, Manuel, from California. July 27, at 0742 & 0910 UT, heard a decent level carrier on 5910 kHz, but no audio at all; normally in the past I always had good audio here.`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2201) ** CUBA. 6100, July 27 at 0646, undermodulated Spanish wIth humbuzzwhine, no doubt RHC where something`s always wrong. 5025, July 27 at 0650, S9+20/30 of dead air except for some humbuzz, from R. Rebelde, something`s always wrong at Radio Cuba. David Crawford, FL replied to my previous reports, July 27 at 0156 UT: ``Tonight's treat is what sounds like video buzz, rather than the recently-typical Rebelde FM audio, on 5025. And after the one reported active "sunset" session, HM01 has been quiet again since, at least for the local midday and sunset schedules. I have not checked the madrugada scheduled times and freqs.`` Ron Howard, CA replies later on July 27: Cuba (5025) noted at 0743 & 0909 UT, with strong carrier, along with a strong hum, but no audio. Ron`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2201) ** NORTH AMERICA. 6869.1, July 27 at 0628, JBA presumed Late Night Lunatix, pirate, as Lucas Bandura, who got it identified, also noted it at 0453: ``On right now with music. Weak direct in British Columbia, S7 on the Northern Utah KiwiSDR.`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA. 7620, July 27 at 0633 UT, JBA sportstalk, surprisingly here. Sounds like one of my strongest locals, 1390 KCRC, indeed matches and synchronized. Same program is on 1640 KZLS, but out of synch. How does this get on 7620? It fades a bit and is gone a few minutes later. Suspect external mixing with some strong real SW signal, but plus or minus 1390 leads to nothing likely on 6230 or 9210. Not an obvious harmonic: only even fundamental on MW would be 1270 X 6. Could be some station there on same net, but not in OK (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO ) ** OKLAHOMA. RF17, July 26 in daytime, K17JN-D is definitely back on air at usual local translator strength with satellator panoply of 3ABN subchannels; Enid`s only local TV signal, embarrassingly for a city of 50K. For a while we had locally programmed LPTV, KXOK 32, ``TV-OK``, gone as of 8 years ago. See my log report of July 21, 2015. At least I still have their mug as a souvenir (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR) ** SPAIN. 17855, 17715, 15520, 11670, Wed July 26 at 2200, token English from SNR not checked at all as I was concentrating on ROMANIA in the absence of TURKEY. But I didn`t miss anything worthwhile. English is repeated at 0200 on webcast only July 27 - a retrospective about Spanish footballers! No news, no apology; I wonder how the elexion went? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2201) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2200 monitoring: ``9395 kHz, 0030, 0058 (45433); 9395 kHz, 0130, 0159 (45433), July 27 UTC (Lemke, Richard -AB) 73’s, Richard, St. Albert, Alberta, Canada`` Confirmed UT Thursday July 27 at 0030 on WRMI 9395, VG S9+10/20 direct. Also confirmed UT Thursday July 27 at 0130 on WRMI 5010, S7/S9 into Bonaire SDR. Also confirmed UT Thursday July 27 at 0130 on WRMI 9395, S9+10/20 into Maryland SDR. ** ARGENTINA [non]. See USA WRMI 9455
** CHINA [non]. 9790, July 26 at 0430, CRI Cantonese S9+40/45 but JBM with squeal. Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 6000, July 26 at 0040, RHC dead air in English? S7/S9 direct. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 5990, July 26 at 0040, Spanish on CRI relay undermodulated S9+10/20. Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 15140, July 26 at 0424, JBA carrier, presumed RHC per previous track record, daytime frequency at night, as nothing else is scheduled. 15230 also still on, JBA, nominally to 0500 tho China also sked. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) See also CHINA [non] ** CUBA. 11850, July 26 at 0425, RHC Spanish JBM, always with parasitic JBA spur carriers on 11840, and QRMing jamming against nothing on 11860. 11850 is *never* heard with decent modulation, yet the incompetents keep running it thus. Aoki & EiBi both say 21-05 via Quivicán but miss the spurs. Something`s always wrong at RHC. 26 de julio! Time for my annual tribute to The Revolution with a modified motto: ``Patria o suerte, ¡pensaremos!``, or ``Patria o suerte, ¡huiremos!`` Once again I invite photographic evidence of either being scrawled upon any public surface in Cuba, preferably identified (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA. 93.9, July 26 at 1938 UT, KIMY Watonga has finally resumed modulation after ~2 days of dead air (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR) ** ROMANIA. 11800, July 26 at 2203, RRI English, VG modulation and signal S9+45 into UTwente. News about security situation along Black Sea due to Russia`s war. 2206 sports about a swimmer. 2207 about severe weather in July, heat alerts up to 42C in shade, hi winds to 90 kph, rain measured in litres per square meter. I wonder what would be the conversion factor to our ``inches``. 2211 end of newscast, Sports Club, on 89th birthday of Leon Rachman?, Olympic champion in 1956, went from wrestling to wrowing. 2214, `Hit of the Day`, a nice song ``Inseparable``. 2217 ID and `Society Today`, 62% have never stepped in a Museum and only 33% go in once or twice a year. Experts are worried about figures but not panicked. Musea should actively attract visitors rather than passively wait for them to show up. 2224 music break, song called ``Time``. 2227 `Visit Romania`, travel feature about where to hike in eroded mountains. 2231 `Focus on Romania` as I started to record for listening later, but somehow it stopped. Apparently UTwente froze or went offline, still off when I checked by 2320 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 11785, July 26 at 2200, no-show of VOT English into Maryland or UTwente. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler; so I take the opportunity to hear RRI simulEnglish on 11800, see ROMANIA (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2200 monitoring: ``From: Richard Lemke, St. Albert, Alberta, Canada, the desk of Richard’s listening Post, Radio: JRC NRD-535 HF, Antenna: random long wires in the trees. Dear Glenn: confirming World of Radio #2200, This the only time it was loud and better reception during past fews days, WRMI: 9395 kHz, 0031, 0045, 0054 (45443), 0059, July 25 [Tue] 73’s, Richard`` Confirmed Tuesday July 25 at 2330 on WRMI 9395, S9+10/25 into Missouri SDR. Also confirmed Wednesday July 26 at 2100 on WBCQ 7490 -70 Hz = 7489.930, S7/S8 good into Maryland SDR; followed at 2130 by `Plain Old Doug Show`, music-only, no announcements, he said, but did so at 2144. Next: 0030 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW No new contributions this week by MO or check in US funds on a US bank to: Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 One may also contribute via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds to: woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 9455, July 26 at 0058, RAE multi-lingual IDs, S9+10 direct but just barely modulated again. 0059.5 cut to canned ``Everglades`` WRMI ID with OK modulation, 0100 rejoin JBM RAE multi-lingual IDs. Transmitter grid does show 0000-0200 System K at 0100 going from Japanese hour to Spanish RAE. But bright green System K sked itself shows 9455, two hours of `Legends` at 0000-0200, except Sundays `The Mighty KBC`. Something`s odd at Okeechobee (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 5130.1 approx., July 26 at 0421 direct, JBA music in HSNL, as WBCQ 300-watt 24/7 test? continues, why? At least the juice bill on this one would not be a problem, but hardly viable (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. Large tropo blobs have developed N and E with Enid on the edges, so DTV bandscan, July 26 from 0455 UT. BAD signals on RF: 36, 35, 34, 31, 26, 22, 21, 17, 16, 14, 13, 12, 11, 10, 9. RF8, decoding: KPTS also virtual 8, PBS Kansas from Wichita. Not far but I rarely get this on my OKC-directed antenna. And it`s in solid, so I explore all its subs: 8-2 Explore, 8-3 Create, 8-4 Kids. I`m unfamiliar with Explore, one sub-brand of PBS? Instead of `World` on OETA-2. I go to the websked, and see some of the same programming, but others never in OK, like `Democracy Now`! KPTS also offers live video of 8-1 and 8-4, but requires location info, then denies me as ``outside coverage area``! AFAIK, OETA is not geo-restricted for its main PBS channel streaming. Could others outside OK in USA and even elsewhere try it? Claims ``anytime, anywhere`` but despite the separate 100% PBS Kids on OETA-4, OETA-1 is nothing but kidvid all day weekdays: https://www.oeta.tv/live/ Ironically, I am not in OETA coverage area right now, 13, KETA ``13`` a bad signal not decoding. Besides local harmonic of KNID 107.1 on 214.2 right in RF 13 video band which is always a problem, tropo is probably knocking it out with DX QRM. There are three full-power 13s in KS: KUPK Garden City ``cupcake``, cute satellite of KAKE ``10``, 63 kW ERP; KFJX Pittsburg, 45.1 kW; and WIBW Topeka, 65.5 kW, all per FCC info. The only other decodes now are from Tulsa market, axually drawn in from Muskogee & Okmulgee; 20 KQCW 19-1, and 28 ION 44-1 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. A few weeks ago, two of my favorite streaming stations from my homestate of NM, started failing when pressing button on own homepages: KUNM Albuquerque, but got it to work on Winamp; KSFR Santa Fe not even that way. I dislike streaming aggregators, but finally try that for KSFR and do get it via https://onlineradiobox.com/us/ksfr/?cs=us.ksfr&played=1 in `Map Is Not Territory`, with The Invisible Man, UT Wed July 26 at 04-06. And also anticipate `Beyond Borders`, Thu 15-18 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 7300.141, July 26 at 0641, JBA talk vs HSNL, maybe English. Nothing listed in Aoki or EiBi, but HFCC shows BULGARIA on 7300 at 0200-0600, 100 kW at 110 degrees. Possibly TOMBS via Sofia, tho not typically so far off-frequency, and rather late to propagate. Nor anything listed anywhere on 7295 or 7305 at this hour (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 7431.55 USB approx., July 26 at 0045, apparent MARS net. Had a hard time finding the sweet spot for readability due to weak and intermittent signals, HSNL. Most calls truncated, 5 + two letters. Mixed with some digibursts. Adjacent QRM from 7435 jamming against nothing, Martí not there at this hour (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) TIPS FOR RATIONAL LIVING PURITANISM AND POWER -- by Gene Lyons https://www.columbiamissourian.com/opinion/guest_commentaries/puritanism-and-power/article_c76f72e8-27bf-11ee-8bf7-ef336986aa47.html This report dispatched at 2338 UT July 26
