Glenn Hauser logs March 25, 2023  View Printable Version
Saturday, March 25 2023

Hauser
** ANTARCTICA. 15476 USB, Sat Mar 25 at 2102, LRA36 is on with music,
S4/S5 into Argentine SDR, tnx to tip from Manuel Méndez, Spain who had
it direct from *2055. I may not have time to monitor much further
detail, but supposed to last six hours (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 11670, March 25 at 0643, RHC in English, S9+10
undermodulated; no other frequencies still on. You never know whether
this will show up or not, on 11670 or 11760, modulated or not.
Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** GERMANY [non]. 7230, March 25 at 0629, DW IS, brothers seeking
brothers, S7/S9 with QRhaM, lotsa LSB during some contest. If it`s DW,
cannot be broadcast direct from Germany. At 0630-0700 it`s via SAO
TOME in Hausa, what else (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** KURDISTAN [non]. 17480, March 25 at 1509, S6/S8 two signals beating
or Doppler fluttering, presumably Turkish jammer and Dengê Welat. Now
nothing on 17460 or 17470 where they might also jump (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** SOUTH CAROLINA [non]. 9955, March 25 at 1515, this WRMI is OFF, and
so is 9455, leaving TOMBS on 9395 only; despite supposed extensions to
1600 Sabbathdays only on 9955, but also 7570, 5850, 7780, 5010, the
latters unchecked but would hardly be propagating daytimely (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 5960, March 25 at 0023, VOT overrun in German is still
going, UTwente check, running the 2-minute multilingual ID filler reel
including English. From March 26 or maybe UT March 25 already, this
will happen after 2300 on 11785 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 395 MCW kHz, March 25 at 1506 UT, CA, 25-watt ND beacon at
Newton/Harvs KS due north of here; and also 407 MCW kHz, HRU, 25-watt
NDB at Herington KS. My local noise hump circa 400 kHz is still there
but diminished enough for these to be copied with IDs beyond JBA
carriers (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2183 monitoring: confirmed UT
Saturday March 25 at 0130 on WRMI 5850, S9+20/30 direct. Axually it
started at 0130:15, altho 7780 is the only frequency needing a delayed
start to avoid the noise burst.

Missed checking UT Sat Mar 25 at 0400 on WBCQ R Angela 5130v; did
anyone hear it?

Confirmed Saturday March 25 at 1700 UT, on WRN North America webcast -
still at winter timing. After the biweek of confusion, from April 1,
this should change to 1600, as UK catches up with DST already in
effect in NAm. Also all the other WRN airings from March 26.

Not confirmed any time between 1930 and 2100 UT Sat Mar 25 on WA0RCR,
1860 AM, S9+20 into nearby SDR. Maybe unusually ran much before
nominal 1930, or not at all? Next:

2230 UT Saturday WRMI 5850 to NW
2230 UT Saturday WRMI 15770 to NE
0030 UT Sunday WRMI 7780 to SW
0245vUT Sunday WA0RCR 1860-AM [nominal 0315; as late as 0457]
0800 UT Sunday Unique R, Australia 5035 USB [low power]
0830 UT Sunday Unique R, Australia 5035 USB [previous episode]
2100 UT Sunday IRRS 1323 & 918? & 207?-Italy
0030 UT Monday WRMI 7780 to SW
0300vUT Monday WBCQ Area 51 6160v to WSW
0030 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW
2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW
1000 UT Wednesday Unique R, Australia 5035 USB [low power]
2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW
0030 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S

Like our website, a noncommercial service for which financial support
is appreciated; this week from Gerald T. Pollard, Raleigh NC, for a
generous quarterly check on a US bank marking the Vernal Equinox, to
Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 USA,

One may also contribute via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds, to
woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 12160, Sat Mar 15 from 1700, WWCR-2 with `The Talking [sic]
Machine Show` at earlified time for CDT season, to my surprise, at
1705 host Phil Patton mentions me, tnx for nice comment about his show
in DX Listening Digest! You`re welcome; maybe a years-old evergreen
repeat altho I have recommended TTMS recently apart from DXLD.

Also says show is on two other stations, one of them webcast Geneva
Community Radio in NY, 4 pm Saturdays.
It`s now known as Global Community Radio,
http://globalcommunityradio.blogspot.com/
with WOR at 0100 UT Mondays on GCR1 stream. But I don`t find TTMS on
sked at all, nor on GCR2 or GCR3. Lots of great programming amassed,
much of it international on GCR1 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9330.000, March 25 at 0534, WBCQ-6 SuperStition is finally
back on air with World`s Last Chance Radio in English, as first
reported by Walt Salmaniw at 0413. But as soon as I tune in, it dumps
off air at 0535*-*0536, and again for less than a minute during 0540.
Still going next check 1518 when it matches WWV 10000.000 exactly
directly. So the Continentals not only got it working again, but
exactified the frequency, at least for now - but seems still stuck on
9330, no matter when or whereto. But UTwente is not even getting
enough signal to lock onto. By 1907 it`s sporadically locking onto
9329.996+ but inaudible (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** VANUATU. 7260, March 25 at 0630, no signal from R. Vanuatu, nor on
5040, 7890, 11835. Maybe still on but blanked by propagation
disturbance (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

This report dispatched at 2122 UT March 25

Saturday, March 25 2023

Hauser
** CUBA. 11760, March 24 at 0625, S9+30 of dead air, yet the SSOB.
Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 5800, March 24 at 0635, pulse jamming against nothing at rate
of about 160 pulses per minute. All because some months ago, WRMI
briefly put R. República on here for one hour IIRC 0300. Now it`s
ruined for the forseeable future. WRMI-10 now scheduled 22-04 only
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** EGYPT. 9439.994, March 24 at 2121, R. Cairo at S9+35 into UTwente,
but suptorted in English, almost understandable beneath big humbuzz,
2123 presents something else. This time I go looking for a live
webcast. WOR hitlist leads only to general homepage, and can`t get
anything audible. Publicradiofan.com leads to ERTU English via
http://egradio.eg/LiveRadio/ but again can`t get anything to play. At
least it`s a neat multilingual player design. A pop-up for Qur`an
certainly does play -- until it stalls (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** ITALY [non]. 7295.002, Fri Mar 24 at *1758, carrier on with tone
less than 1 kHz, presumably BULGARIA, S9+20 into UTwente, 1800 IRRS
s/on as 7295 & 1323, Feature Story News & Spotlite, 1804 into another
newscast not IDing until later as VOA. 14590 harmonic inaudible today
in depressed conditions. Later in hour some rock music show where WOR
used to be, not specified, only generic schedule entry. Before 1800
there is ACI from China 7300, after 1800 2ACI from China 7285. In A23,
IRRS plans to go back to 7290, but not make a time shift, staying at
18-19 UT (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MADAGASCAR. 15355, March 24 at 2023, French at S3/S2 is one of few
signals on 19mb in depressed conditions. It`s AWR at 2000-2030 (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 9690, Fri Mar 24 at 2300, SNR token English, previews will
be pt 2 of 2 interview about German painter Lucian Freud, of the
*ugly* portraits. No tnx, over to Turkey - after checking other
frequencies into Maryland SDR: 12030 & 11940 are OK, but 11685 JBA.
From Mar 27 this will be at 2200 UT M/W/F on 17855 for us - which may
be a bit too high until later in season; 17715, 15520, 11670. Lower
15520 may work better for us off the back to ME, like 12030 has been
in B-season (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 5960.004, March 24 at 2308, VOT VG into UTwente, with S&R
salute after news and `Review of Turkish Press`; 2315 `Weekly
Analysis` repeat about China getting Iran and Sa`udi Arabia together;
2322 multilingual ID filler reel; 2325 `Feeling Supreme/The Healing
Supring` repeat about colds & flus, antibiotix NG vs viruses; 2331
`Always by your side` promo; music, 2339 `Always with you` promo, `Did
You Know That` repeat about Istanbul restaurant; 2348 ABYS, music;
2352 s/off; 2353 IS; 2356 restart IS with German IDs, and stays on in
spurious language still until cutoff just before 0034* March 25.
Something`s always erroneous at Emirler. Note: From March 26 with
A-23, English moves to 2200 UT on a frequency not used before, 11785
instead of 9830 in A-22. May have ACI from 11780 Brasil (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** U S A. 10048 USB, March 24 at 0627, San Francisco ATC contacting a
FEDEX flight, refers to another SFO frequency, 6673. Fedex replies
JBA. EiBi shows:

10048 0000-2400 J Tokyo Radio E FE
10048 0000-2400 USA San Francisco Radio NP E NOc /ALS-ba
10048 0000-2400 USA San Francisco Radio NP E NOc /HWA-m

What means NP? This does mean SFO originated but transmitted very
remotely from Barrow, Alaska, or Moloka`i, Hawai`i (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2182 monitoring: ``From: Richard

on WRMI 9955, now the first SW airing some 14 hours after completion,
S9/S7 direct. Off air by next check 1505.

Also confirmed Friday March 24 at 2130 on AM Italia, 1323 kHz only,
S9+10/15 into nearby Noale SDR; after IRRS `Shortwave` ID when it`s
not on SW. Next:

Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 USA,

One may also contribute via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds, to
woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9455, March 24 at 0631, NO signal from WRMI-5, scheduled
24h, at this time with SMTV; despite disturbances, 9395 & 9955 are
quite loud. Something`s off at Okeechobee. Recheck 2019, 9455
still/again off while 9395 is OK. At 20-21, 9455 would have been the
*only* WRMI with TOMBS! What a respite (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 720, March 24 at 1509 UT, WGN mentions its TV-side, News
Nation. Altho possible via daytime groundwave, strong enough I think
now to be residual skywave; no CCI. City-to-city distance: 1073 km =
667 miles.

670, March 24 at 1509 UT, WSCR also still audible as `The Score` but
with fast SAH no doubt from KLTT Denver, which is always reaching here
via daytime groundwave, 725 km = 450 mi.

MW Offsets shows WSCR on 670.0004 as of 2022 and KLTT on 670.0018 as
of 2020, i.e. 1.4 Hz apart, but obviously much more than that now.
Enid sunrise was 1229 UT today, so these were over 2.5 hours into
dayside (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** VANUATU. 7260, March 24 at 0632, RV manages to modulate, YL talking
seems like French intonation, S6/S8 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 990 kHz, morning & afternoon chex March 24, JBA signals
from the two accessibles on daytime groundwave, KRSL Russell KS, and
KFCD Farmersville(Dallas) TX, but one of them seems to be dead air. At
2150 UT checking Crowley TX SDR, KFCD is not dead but gospelhuxtering
in Spanish. Overland Park KS is really too far from Russell, but does
seem to be modulation on JBA carrier vs high noise level at 2153, also
too close to local 980 (Glenn Hauser, Enid OK, WOR)

** BRAZIL. 9819.1, March 23 at 0644, S2 JBA algo, must be R. 9 de
Julho resuming after missing from signature off-frequency since at
least March 9 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2183)

** BRAZIL. 9664.533, March 23 at 0645, S6/S8 music from R. Voz
Missionária, way off-frequency again after a spell close to nominal
9665.0 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2183)

** CUBA [and non]. 9535, March 23 at 0651, RHC Spanish ID clashing
with R. Ndarason International via Woofferton UK, which starts at
0600, and RHC supposed to stop at 0500; at equal level totaling S9+10
making medium-rate SAH. 9700 nor other RHCs overtime found now.
Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO
2183)

** KUWAIT. 7590, March 23 at 0643, JBA music, only thing sked is R.
Farda at 0230-0830, a bit late for that long after sunrise; also with
weak 2-way QRM from 7591 USB. Meanwhile no VOK on 7580 but that`s not
on until 0700 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NIGERIA. 7255-, March 23 at 0641, VON is on at S7/S9 but just
barely modulated. Something`s always abnormal at Abuja (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. From Lucas Bandura, BC: ``Regarding the 4015 USB
pirate, it is still the Russian ethnic pirate without a doubt. The
music he plays varies but his signal is very distinctive. I agree with
Gary Pence that the signal does seem to be from some southwest US
location other than Arizona, but I am still not totally sure. The TDoA
results are reliable (which usually means they are somewhat accurate)
but listening on different SDRs the location seems different. The
actual station ID is not heard often, I have attached a recording.
There is a bit of speech in a language I have yet to identify that he
plays often, but I have no idea what it is (that sounds like what
Glenn heard). I have also attached a recording of that`` (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2183)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2182 monitoring: confirmed UT
Thursday March 23 at 0030 on WRMI 9395, S9+10/20 into Maryland SDR.

Also confirmed UT Thursday March 23 at 0130 on WRMI 5010, S9+10/20
direct but noisy.

maybe 684 the 150 kW Spain; 612 the 300 kW Morocco. Nothing Pacifican
closer than Australia on 684, NZ on 612, per WRTH 2022, as we know the

Hauser
** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98 RCUSB, March 22 at 2252, LRA36 is S3/S6 into
Buenos Aires SDR - the Mendoza one is deaf, Spanish discussion back on
original frequency rather than other transmitter one kHz lower.
Without any advance notice this time, maybe a regular Wednesday
evenings, numerous reports of this had erupted on the WOR iog,
starting with Eric Fetters-Walp at 2012 UT via Montevideo SDR.
Apparently there was a break but came back on at 2207 per Arthur
Pozner. 2345 check here direct: no signal (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 12000, March 22 at 0624, S7/S9 of dead air, 2 x 6000 where
the dead air rates S9+30; and no others are still on so no 12120 as
last night. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 11760, March 22 at 2227, this RHC is off. 11850 is on, S6/S9
of pointless suptorted JBM along with parasitic spur carrier on 11840,
the mirror on 11860 unable to compete with Martí and jamming. 11880
also off where English used to appear sporadically. Somethings` always
wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** EGYPT. 9440, March 22 at 2222 direct, S6/S9 of dead air, no doubt
another failure of R. Cairo to broadcast in English; something`s
always egregious in Egypt (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** JAPAN. 11630, March 22 at 2226, S4/S7 of Western classical
orchestral music, whence? NHK morning Japanese service at 21-23 to SE
Asia, off the back (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** KIRITIMATI. 846 kHz, March 22 at 0645, JBA carrier from R.
Kiribati, as usual now, the only 9/kHz split audible in MW bandscan,
getting too late for Europe even if otherwise propagable (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 4015 USB, March 21 at 0257, weak S5 into northern
Utah SDR, nondescript rather repetitive music, still there past 0316,
0347, 0357. Russian-ethnic pirate восточная звезда [Vostochnaya
Zvezda] was logged here March 17 & 18, see my previous reports.
Probably still, but unlike before: never any ``московские вечера`` IS
à la маяк. Occasional brief bits of talk/conversation totally
unreadable even as to which language. I never heard before nor now the
Russian ID reported by others.

Since programming now is different, this could be some other pirate,
as no one has an exclusive claim to 4015. HFUnderground reports of
this have been very sparse lately. Wolverine Radio was also on 4015 at
some point, but tonight does not sound like that either.

Gary Pence, KM5X, has been monitoring this ``Eastern Star``
extensively via several remotes in California & Nevada, comparing
signal strengths, ``where it`s being heard and how well. Other
considerations are terrain and antenna type used`` by the remotes,
concluding that it`s not in southern Arizona as someone else
suggested: ``I think he has a terrain block he`s dealing with. I
personally think he`s running 40 or 50 watts. If it was more power it
would be a bigger circle of consistent reception. I think he is in
south central to southwest Nevada. So this is my circle of consistent
copy over time.`` Earlier Gary suggested SW Nevada, perhaps in the
Dyer/Piper Peak area right next to the California border: ``Hi Glenn,
this is not TDOA technology, just my personal opinion, ole school
DXing after 50 years hamming and common sense. Best guess
between those two points. 73s, Gary`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 9690, Wed March 22 at 2300 REE VG into Maryland for token
English, Justin starts by announcing new A23 total transmission
schedule but not making clear English will be one UT hour earlier.
Preview of feature topix: interview with amateur astrologer -
pass! Can`t waste time with nonsense. Over to Turkey (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** TURKEY [non]. 5960v, March 21 at 2314 & 2346 chex via UTwente: NO
signal from VOT English, just Chinese from XJPBS, East Turkistan, std
denunciation.

5960.003, revives March 22 from 2358 tune-in to IS blotting BBC, VG
into UTwente, 2300 sign-on and news including Ramadan will start
``Thursday`` meaning March 23, in most countries but several others
are waiting until Wednesday to decide whether to start it Thursday or
Friday --- but Wednesday is over already. All depends on official
local sightings of new moons, how quaint. 2309 `Review of Turkish
Press`. 2312 search & rescue team salutes. 2313 `Whipping Piles`, half
of world`s population to be obese by 2035y, per WHO. 2318 `Weekly
Commentary` read by heavy-accented YL, unlike Whipping Piles which was
by a more understandable YL. But atop the CCCCCCI undercurrent from
XJPBS. About China becoming a power broker, Iran/Sa`udi Arabia, etc.
2228 song. 2233 `Feeling Supreme/Healing Supring` on common cold, flu
and antibiotic treatments - not useful against viral causes;
recommends garlic, zinc, etc. 2340 songs. 2354 s/off with same
defective script as usual, but sounds like a new reading by same
announcer. 2355 IS, 2356 starts inserting German IDs and keeps going
after 2400 timesignal, s/on and news on a totally spurious but not
infrequent SW broadcast.

Note that since Türkei became Türkiye, the ``der`` has been eliminated
after ``Stimme``. So the new name even imposed on other languages,
must not be limited to one part of speech, proper noun.
Recep could not stand his domain being confused with a dumb? but tasty
bird. Yet in German there is no such confusion as the bird is a
*Truthahn*, nothing wrong with calling the country Türkei!

Strangely, during this hour I did not hear a single one of those
crutches, ``always at your side`` promos, nor even the 2-minute
multi-lingual ID filler reel (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. Re 12050, WEWN Spanish, RCM, missing March 21 at 1540, I
also inquired of Glen Tapley: ``Still wondering about WEWN. People ask
me if it will ever resume English on SW; what should I tell them?
Glenn``

Glen Tapley replies: ``The transmitter is being repaired. Parts,
especially tubes, take much longer to order, have built and tested,
then received. Once all is received, installed, and tested, the
English transmission will resume. Sent from my iPhone`` (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)
