** KIRITIMATI. 846 kHz, March 3 at 0743 UT, JBA carrier from R. Kiribati and no other 9/kHz splits; except possibly 1044 with JJBBA carrier. Now just about too late for TA Eurafrica, but Spain? TP, only a 10 kW in NZ would be dark (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** OKLAHOMA [and non]. 341 MCW kHz, March 3 at 0746 UT, can`t make out local NDB, EI at Woodring Airport, EnId; just OIN, OberlIN KS. Normally EI is as weak as OIN and only three dits sometimes obscured by the longer OIN call if they do not happen to be alternating at different periods. However, at 2108, EI is definitely on and only one audible (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SPAIN. 12030, Friday March 3 at 2300, token English from SNR, VG here direct off the back of the ME beam, and overally sounds marginally better than NAm [not ``Nam``] channel 9690; weaker 11940 SAm and 11685 squeally for Af are also on. At 2306 after news, Justin Coe presents what amounts partially to a `Radio Waves` mailbag after a long absence, based on correspondence from only one listener, Greg[g?] Hathaway in Ann Arbor MI. His latest email was Dec 29 about J`s interview with ex-BBC correspondent in Spain, Frank, back on Oct 22. Greg complains that webcast goes into buffering every 3 minutes unlike other stations so could RNE fix that? Justin implies don`t hold your breath but passes on the info. Then he retrieves previous mail from long-time listener Greg as far back at 2011y who was listening then on 6055 at 0000 UT. Justin says the SW receivers he got were a Sony ICF-7601 and a Panasonic RFB-65. On Dec 1, 2012, the English broadcast was cut without notice to the staff or listeners, management`s way of finding out whether anyone cared. Greg did, and it was resumed a few days later after this brief crisis. Then on to other topix with Justin. 2316 song, `Trip to Everywhere`. 2318 doctors on strike due to insufficiencies of health care being changed from federal to ``autonomous`` regional levels. 2321 discussing terminology: should Roma replace Gypsies, etc.? Refers to website of Brazilian guest, www.LeonardoMartinsDias.com --- 2326 bit of music, Queen of Sheba from Handel`s Solomon oratorio (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TAIWAN. 11745, March 3 at 0818, S9/+10 in Japanese from RTI via Paochung site this hour. Carries on well to here far beyond (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 5960, March 3 at 2258 direct, I can tell that VOT is on with IS, but too poor to copy, so no excuse for not listening to SPAIN, hi, q.v. (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2180 monitoring: NOT confirmed UT Friday March 3 at 0330 on WRMI 7780, which had been our first SW airing anywhere; instead Alameda Bible in Spanish -- now that gets blasted by noise for the first 14 seconds, as heard direct. Checking the WRMI skedgrids, there do not appear to be any open slots on any system or frequency early UT Friday where WOR might refit. I hate to recommend download or podcast over SW, but if you want it when it`s hot off the `press`, you need to get WOR that way, usually ready by 0200 UT Fridays. Sometimes I mention very perishable info, like specials barely in time. We still have several airings later, well-heard in North America, such as 5850, 9395, 15770. Confirmed Friday March 3 at 1530-1559 on WRMI 9955, VP direct S5/S8 with no jamming audible. At least WRMI lately has been keeping this on until WOR is finished rather than turning it off earlier other weekdays. We still have some later good airings. Also confirmed Friday March 3 at 2130 on IRRS SW via AM Itaiia, 1323 kHz only, S9+10/20 into nearby Noale SDR; well atop CCI from an understation, presumably Smooth Radio, Brighton, England; with Romania as usual closed down by now. The IRRS break at 2129 after Wavescan, was asking for donations. Next: 0130 UT Saturday WRMI 5850 to NW 0500 UT Saturday WBCQ Radio Angela 5130v to WSW 1800 UT Saturday IRRS 7295 & 14590-Bulgaria [unsked but Feb 11 appeared] 1800 UT Saturday IRRS 1323 & 918? & 207?-Italy [ditto] 2030vUT Saturday WA0RCR 1860-AM 2230 UT Saturday WRMI 5850 to NW 2230 UT Saturday WRMI 15770 to NE 0030 UT Sunday WRMI 7780 to SW 0345vUT Sunday WA0RCR 1860-AM [nominal 0415; as late as 0557] 0800 UT Sunday Unique R, Australia 5035 USB [low power] 0830 UT Sunday Unique R, Australia 5035 USB [previous episode] 2100 UT Sunday IRRS 1323 & 918? & 207?-Italy 0030 UT Monday WRMI 7780 to SW 0400vUT Monday WBCQ Area 51 6160v to WSW 0130 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW 0030 UT Wednesday WRMI 9395 to NNW 1000 UT Wednesday Unique R, Australia 5035 USB [low power] 2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S [not on air last week] Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html Like our website, a noncommercial service for which financial support is appreciated; thanks this week to Kelley Sprout, KB3LR, Hughesville PA, for a postal MO to Glenn Hauser, PO Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 USA One may also contribute by cheque on a US bank to above address; or via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds, to woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 9330v, March 3 at 0811, no signal from WLCR/WBCQ. Wonder what`s wrong now? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 720 kHz, March 3 at 0750 UT, on the DX-398 with WGN nulled, KDWN final final DX test heard again as supposed to start at 0746. This time heard a goodbye ``thanks for listening to KDWN`` referring to 101.5 FM where it will continue but is really a mere translator: how do they manage that with no AM to relay?; Nevada state song about the desert etc.; 0751 IDs also for a translator? in Henderson; and the rest same as heard last time: 0752 `Star Spangled Banner`; 0753.7 SSTV beepery; 0757 Morse Code including several KDWN IDs, starting and ending with QST. Before it became a magazine, in the Q-codes, QST was defined as ``General call preceding a message addressed to all amateurs and ARRL members. This is in effect “CQ ARRL.`` --- at least that is how ARRL defines it. So this wasn`t even for us, non-ham BCB DXers! On the WOR iog: ``A poster (“NickD”) on the RadioDiscussions site recorded the final sign off of both stations, including the Morse Code goodbye as well as SSTV images of the transmitters. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xyddrXyTBXI Stephen Luce, Houston, Texas`` WTFDA Database does not show any Henderson station associated with KDWN 720! As for 101.5 in Vegas, no relation either: ``K268CS relay of:KMXB-HD3 101.5 LAS VEGAS NV USA 0.25 0.25 0.0 0.0 36-08-55 115-09-15 D1ED`` Yes, website now claims 101.5 only: https://www.audacy.com/stations/kdwn# FCC FM Query for NV 101.5 hits only K268CS in LV, licensed to Audacy, nothing more. So did both really turn off this time? Later I search out the state song, ``Home Means Nevada``. Here is a version with lyrix: https://youtu.be/OpY-I0eAInA (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 1140 kHz, March 3 at 0655-0717 UT, listening for a possible final final DX test from KXST Las Vegas NV, but no sign of it, just a mélange of unID signals presumably again including Greybull cheater (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** VANUATU. 7260, March 3 before & after 0800, I don`t have a log entry for RV when I was mainly monitoring Nevada and trying to stay awake. However, these reports: From Tony Rogers, BDXC-UK at 2039 March 3: ``No trace on Radio Vanuatu on 7260 kHz when I checked this morning (3 March) around 0800 UTC on the Brisbane KiwiSDR. Gary Pence confirmed this on the World of Radio iog whilst using the Half Moon Bay KiwiSDR in California at 0939, but he detected a weak carrier on 3945 kHz, a stronger S7 carrier on 7890 kHz (the second harmonic) and S5 carrier with weak or no audio on 11835 kHz (the third harmonic). I had also noted that carrier on 11835 kHz. This evening (3 March), first checked on the Brisbane KiwiSDR at 1855 UTC and found nothing on 7260 kHz, but there was a carrier with no audio on 5040 kHz, one of their alternative frequencies. The live stream had no audio at 1855 but sprung into life at 1901, news reports and emergency reports followed in Bislama from which it was easy to determine that the situation was/is quite serious as the BBC News report implied, https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-64832870 A reminder of the live stream: https://www.vbtc.vu/en/listen-online-2/ 73's Tony`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 5020 in SB of 5025 Cuba, and 5055, March 3 at 0806, JBA carriers correlating with Solomon Islands and Australia, but no 5040 at this time which would be Vanuatu. Nor 5035 nor 5045, the other Aussies despite absence of Cuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 0056 UT March 4

** CUBA. 11760, March 2 at 0748, S9+20 of dead air; AND 11670, S9/+10 of dead air; obviously RHC which may have been modulating English or Spanish before 0700; while no RHC signals remain on 5, 6 or 10 MHz bands. Something`s always wrong at RHC. The Other Side:
``One year of war in Ukraine: a timeline of the Cuban regime's support for its Russian ally --- Havana has tried to ease the UN’s pressure on Moscow and has echoed Putin's disinformation in Latin America. DDC Madrid 01 Mar 2023 - 01:47 CET Russia's war in Ukraine is one year old. Since February 24, 2022, more than 42,200 people have died and 14 million have been displaced in what Vladimir Putin defined in his speech as a "special military operation" in defense of the Donbas region. Beyond the human and material consequences for Ukrainians, the first territorial invasion of a sovereign state in Europe in 80 years has had international repercussions, from food to energy. What the western democracies condemned from the very first moment, and continue to today, with heavy sanctions against the aggressor, was justified by the Cuban regime, also from the beginning of the conflict. Havana has been in charge of reducing pressure on Moscow exerted by the United Nations, and has disseminated the disinformation spouted by Putin across Latin America...`` https://diariodecuba.com/cuba/1677631672_45522.html (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** KIRITIMATI. 846 kHz, March 2 at 0732, JBA carrier from R. Kiribati, and no other 9/kHz splits (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** PERU. 4810, March 2 at 0743, JBA carrier vs CODAR and STANAG, presumably another night that R. Logos has not turned off its transmitter. Others report it after 1000 with programming (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2180) ** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2179 monitoring: confirmed UT Thursday March 2 at 0130 on WRMI 9395, S9+10/20 direct; for this airing, WRMI inserts a few seconds of intrusive music between ID and WOR starting. I`m here for an unconfirmed DX test by KXST Las Vegas, sibling station to 720 KDWN, both about to go dark. I never hear any sign of KXST with gambling format or anything. Instead, it`s ``Good Time Oldies``, 1140 KZMQ IDs heard at 0701, 0707. That`s a 10 kW *daytimer*, non-direxional in Greybull, Wyoming, but address in Cody some 40 miles west. I see it`s been reported at night before as early as 2020, and as recently as last month. But not this: ``1140 KZMQ Greybull, WY old slogan: “Good Time Oldies”, new: “Star 92.9”`` as per Broadcasting Info, IRCA DX Monitor Feb 25 --- no mention of the latter, still G-T-O. Meanwhile on 1140 also noted: 0701 ABC news, 0709 Coast-to-Coast, both likely WRVA Richmond VA; 0710 XEMR Monterrey, Spanish from south plugging its platforms but asserting that AM is still primary, probably a gospel huxter (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2180) ** VANUATU [and non]. 7260, March 2 at 0740, R. Vanuatu back on tonight, S8/S9 with JBA talk probably cyclone warnings; aside Nigeria 7255- dead air. Others` reports: Ron Howard: ``7260, Radio Vanuatu: Feb 28 - From 0742+ UT; tuned in to hear emergency sirens followed by multi-language cyclone warnings for Tropical Cyclone Judy and advising people to have plenty of water, food for 2 to 3 days, have candles, batteries, etc. due to electricity possibly being off for several days, and for information, listen to TV, Radio Vanuatu and check the Internet; followed by more sirens; 0750, the usual advertisement for the "mobile stage" for events in Vanuatu and PSA for mental health; 0831, more sirens and cyclone warning/advisories. March 2 - From 1002+ UT; emergency sirens and advising people to listen to TV, Radio Vanuatu and the Internet for the latest cyclone info; 1007-1017, sounded like the Prime Minister's speech to the the nation (poor audio quality); 1026, "Tropical Cyclone Warning Number 4" for cyclone Kevin, giving location, direction, and speed. https://www.vmgd.gov.vu/vmgd/index.php/forecast-division/tropical-cyclone/warning . Map showing the location of cyclone Kevin - https://zoom.earth/storms/kevin-2023/ RV totally blocked at 1057, with very strong sign on of CRI, in Japanese (*1057-1257* UT). Ron, California`` And Tony Rogers, UK, BDXC: ``Checked for Radio Vanuatu on the Te Kauwhata KiwiSDR in New Zealand at just after 1200 UTC today (2 March) and found them back on 7260 kHz with an emergency broadcast now in place for Tropical Cyclone Kevin. 7260 kHz also has CRI Japanese between 1100-1300 (from Xian 500 kW) but Radio Vanuatu still well audible on this SDR. 73’s Tony`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2180) UNIDENTIFIED. 9510.1, March 2 at 0759, S9 carrier with hum, one zero-beat about +0.1 kHz. It seems no one else is interested in pursuing this? Ah, here is one other report: ``9510 S8 hum back; missing a few days; 1723, 3/1; 1438, 3/2 (Harold Frodge-MI)`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 9895 USB, March 2 at 0756, JBA 2-way seems like Spanish (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 0211 UT March 3

** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98 RC USB, Wed March 1 at 2110 tune-in late via Argentine SDR, LRA36 also starting late with Morse code ID and standard spoken sign/on, S8/9+10. Someone thought it would now be pure USB but I confirm there is still a JBA reduced carrier when tuned to 15475.00 USB. But too weak for the Kiwi in Sync modes to lock onto it. 2112 credits, into usual discussion, mentioning ham activity from 6 to 160 meters - but nothing specific known about any further 14336 USB transmissions. 2116 contact info via whatsapp, email only. 2117 into efemérides for dates in February and I wonder if this is really a rerun. I have to go out so log nothing further but others report it cut off around 2130 but resumed later. I checked next at 2209 direct, nothing. Already Feb 28 via Horacio Nigro, a further broadcast is planned for Sat March 4 2100 until 0300 UT Sun March 5 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** EGYPT. 9440, March 1 at 2224, R. Cairo is on, S9/+20 direct but JBM except for some hum. Something`s always egregious in Egypt (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** GUATEMALA [non]. I have let UTwente run on and no Verdad. There has been some heavy ute activity in the area which AMsync will lock onto, such as 4053.876 at 0445 UT March 1. That`s yet another obstacle which Dr M does not understand. He will need 4055 to be a clear frequency worldwide - highly unlikely, not even in a broadcast band. Here is TGAV`s advance notice of a ``4055 via satellite`` test for Feb 28, in translation: "We need to be ready from 22:00 UTC (4:00 Guatemala). I can't be sure about the exact time the transmission will start, because the Technicians and Engineers will be making all the previous connections of the equipment. But, the broadcast will be long, like 12 consecutive hours, in part to see if the equipment can handle it and not get hot. After this test in Guatemala City, we will have to move all the equipment to the city of Chiquimula, install everything again, and do the final tests, until the new Radio Verdad Internacional is inaugurated, via satellite. The signal is expected to come through strong and clear. We await your reports, preferably with recorded reports. It has been a great struggle for 6 years, but I think that now we have finally triumphed, because 4 days ago we did a test transmission for 3 and a half hours, and we received an excellent report from La China. We will reach Central America, Mexico, the United States, Canada, the Caribbean, South America, Europe, Asia and Africa. Thank God and the efforts of our Engineers. When we inaugurate the new International Truth Radio, via satellite, we are going to announce all the instructions and explain how this new invention works. This is the same project that, initially, was called "Radio Verdad Transmundial", about which we received many excellent reports, but Radio Transmundial opposed us, and forced us to change its name, despite the fact that the law was on our side. Thank you, God bless and keep you. Dr. Edgar Amílcar Madrid Radio Truth International Chiquimula, Guatemala, C.A." But our further occasional chex of 4055 directedly or remotedly got nothing well into UT March 1, like Manuel Méndez, Lugo, Spain, also reported at 0613: ``As I think it was expected, 4055 kHz, checked directly here in the NW of Spain and in various remote receivers in Europe and America and no signal.`` Guess what: later at 1701 UT March 1 via Manuel Méndez, Lugo, Spain: ``Mail from Radio Verdad about the test transmission: Google translation: "We had problems with Network Transmissions: They didn't open the channel for us, because they hadn't received the payment money. We are waiting for it to be enabled. Let's wait and I'll report. Edgar Madrid, Radio Truth International" "Tuvimos problemas con Network Transmissions: No nos abrieron el canal, porque no habían recibido el dinero de pago. Estamos esperando que nos lo habiliten. Esperemos y yo informaré. Édgar Madrid, Radio Verdad Internacional"`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** KIRITIMATI. 846 kHz, March 1 at 0718, JBA carrier from R. Kiribati, but stronger than usual; and no other 9/kHz splits. Gary Pence, KM5X, detected it at 0552 ``the hard way`` via Oahu remote, tuned to 844 USB (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SPAIN. 9690, Wed Mar 1 at 2300, SNR English opening with preview about some youth volunteer project in Nepal, but I don`t have time to listen. Usual // in diminishing strengrh on 12030, 11940, 11685 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY [non]. 5960, March 1 at 2300 & 2325, no signal from VOT English direct, presumed another off-day but did not check UTwente until after 2400 when there was nothing but XJPBS. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2179 monitoring: ``from: Richard Lemke, St. Albert, Alberta, Canada, the desk of Richard’s listening Post, Radio: JRC NRD-535 HF, Antenna: random long wires in the trees, Dear Glenn: Confirming World of Radio #2179, WRMI: 5850, 0130, 0159 (55433), S9 signal, 0159, February 25 UTC 2023 [Sat] 9395, 0130, 0158 (45433), S6 signal, 0159, February 28 UTC 2023 [Tue] 9395, 0030, 0044, 0059 (55433), 0059, February 22 UTC 2023 {meaning March 1?] [Wed] (Lemke, Richard -AB)`` Also confirmed UT Wednesday March 1 at 0030 on WRMI 9395, VG S9+20/30 into Missouri SDR. Missed checking Wed March 1 at 2200:21 on WBCQ 7490; did anyone hear it? Next: 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html New WOR 2180 should be ready for download by 0200 UT Friday March 3 and first SWBC at 0330 on WRMI 7780. Like our website, a noncommercial service for which financial support is appreciated, this week from Greg Putz, KI7UED, Bountiful UT, ``Thank you for your work!`` with a generous check to Glenn Hauser, PO Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 USA One may also contribute by MO or cheque on a US bank to above address; or via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds, to woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 720 kHz, March 1, much-anticipated DX test from KDWN, Las Vegas NV, just before it closes down forever, 0759-0809 UT. I am writing the following from my log notes, deliberately before reading what anyone else says about it: first on the R75 with E/W lw, nothing but WGN as expected. Then on my DX-398 with WGN nulled as much as possible - yes, they did not turn off carrier or modulation for this historic event. That means nulled toward NE/SW and favoring NW/SE while LV is almost due west, so that worx. By 0802 the Star-Spangled Banner is being sung with heartfelt emotion by a male with orchestra -- got to be KDWN signing off forever. Weak but readable presumably 25 kW non-direxional day pattern. At 0803 some digital beepery, presumably SSTV which you certainly don`t often hear on the MW band. At 0805 Morse Code, a fairly long and seemingly repetitious message but I DO copy the KDWN ID several times as well as 73, some Q-codes, like QRA? concluding with QST at 0808.7*. Never heard any voice ID; maybe it uttered at the start. A bit later some music probably from another station, like the black-water QRM. I`ve heard KDWN before, but tnx for the test. I did not record it. Now, what else? Not a single report of this on the WOR iog: maybe I should have pre- reminded them. Plenty on the IRCA iog. Played the Nevada state song before the SSB. The beepery was SSTV; someone posted a very fuzzy image. Sibling station 1140 KXST was also testing, and maybe it, or they will test again tonight? 11 pm PST mentioned = 0700 UT. Reception was spotty; 720 made it to Florida, but not Alberta, etc. Via Wayne Heinen, NRC: ``KDWN and KXST May final Test Tonight {UT March 2} --- ``From irca.io group --- UNVERIFIED information posted by someone on Radio discussions suggests that KDWN is still on as is KXST 1140 and they`ll run the DX test again again. This was posted by "DNezTech" "Shutdown will be tonight. The same program will air again on KXST at 11pm and KDWN just before midnight. There are free apps and software to decode the Slow Scan TV transmission in the Scottie 1 format."`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** VANUATU. 7260, March 1 circa 0730, no signal from R. Vanuatu, which had been reliable lately; Gary Pence, KM5X, agrees at 0713: ``No Vanuatu on 7260 or any other freq right now!!`` Later, Tony Rogers reports to British DX Club: ``No trace of Radio Vanuatu today (1 March) at 1830 UTC (which is around the time their daily schedule normally starts) on 7260 kHz or on the alternative frequencies of 3945 and 5040 kHz (and associated harmonics); checked using the Brisbane KiwiSDR in Australia. Live stream at https://www.vbtc.vu/en/listen-online-2/ still operational. Maybe Tropical Cyclone Judy has knocked the shortwave transmitter off the air. The last time I checked 7260 kHz was at 1100 yesterday (28 February) after which it continued with its emergency broadcast. Ron Howard posted this link on Glenn Hauser’s World of Radio iog which follows the course of the cyclone: https://zoom.earth/storms/judy-2023/ 73’s Tony `` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 2580, have heard no further traces of mystery harmonic as of March 1, nor has Gary Pence, KM5X: ``UNID 2580 khz not heard since I recorded it. I sent Manuel, NW Spain, a copy to listen to closely`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 0050 UT March 2

Glenn Hauser logs February 28, 2023 |

Wednesday, March 01 2023
** ASCENSION. 11660, Feb 28 at 0727, song in English S9/S6, chopped off air at 0729* without any announcement. Aoki shows BBC French at 0700. Romania in Arabic supposed to follow at 0730 but unheard before 0730 tune-out; should have been running IS. Well-coördinated scheduling also shows Turkey on 11660 at 0450-0656; not so well-coörd, also CNR2 at 01-09, no sign of that. It`s off for siesta after 0600 on Day 4 only, but this is Day 3 = Tuesday (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. 11760, Feb 28 at 0726, S9/S7 open carrier from RHC on way late again. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** EAST TURKISTAN. In case you find my denunciations of ``imperialist ChiCom genocide against Uyghurs and other Moslems``, excessive whenever XJPBS comes up such as QRM to Turkey 5960, consider this: ``How a search tool offers overseas Uyghurs harrowing insights William Yang, Taipei, 02/23/2023 February 23, 2023 Leaked data and a search tool have allowed some overseas Uyghurs to gain insights into their family members in China's Xinjiang region. Some say they feel a deep sense of guilt while others are filled with fear. [...] https://www.dw.com/en/tech-gives-overseas-uyghurs-chilling-insights-into-plight-of-relatives/a-64796343 via Hansjörg Biener`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** GUATEMALA [non]. 4055, R. Verdad, which has been off the air from Chiquimula for more than a year: Dr Madrid is still believing that by paying some organization, which has no web presence, the 4055 SW signal will soon be available worldwide via satellite. And claims that testing is now underway. A few days ago it was ``heard`` in China, and the perfect-Spanish ``reception report`` he forwarded is pretty obviously fabricated. This has been discussed in more detail in the WOR iog. For once, he publicized the latest test in advance: Feb 28 from 2200 UT past 0300, the first part to be heard in Europe only. Guess what, UTwente is getting no sign of it at 2237, 2321, 2355 chex, but there is a roaring noise centred 4050 with no specific carrier. Later he says the worldwide test would be around 3 am - I guess local time? so 09 UT. We are 99% sure that poor Dr Madrid is letting himself be conned out of scare funds, and have warned him repeatedly in the past. If any legit DXer ever hear this directly or via any remote, we may have to reconsider; meanwhile beware of a pirate possibly pretending to be this on 4055. He seems to be implying that the SW frequency 4055 is being transmitted from multiple satellites, as if HF 4 MHz were not totally inappropriate for direct satellite broadcasting; has promised to explain how this worx once it`s successful (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** KIRITIMATI. 846 kHz, Feb 28 circa 0745, no sig detected from R. Kiribati, maybe due prop storms even on a trans-eq path. Gary Pence confirmed it earlier at 0425z with a screenshot from Oahu SDR (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 5960.003+, Feb 28 at 2256, VOT IS is already on blotting out BBC OMAN, S9+30/40 into UTwente. 2300 TS and s/on again mentions only the 1330, 1930 and 0400 broadcasts. First news item is like this, 412-2 vote in US House: https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/mtg-house-turkey-syria-earthquake-b2291044.html Modulation level is loud enough, in fact too loud causing some distortion, more so during music. Before sports, ends with report that Antarctic sea ice area is the lowest in 45 years. 2314 `Review of Turkish Press` quoting Recep et al. always brief, hardly more than a few extra headlines. 2316 salute to S&R teams from all over the world. 2317.5 `Weekly Commentary` by Brad McDermott? an Australian psychiatrist, a guide to healing from EQ depression, PTSD. 2327 ``TRT VOT is with you`` promo, distorted music break. 2331 multi-lingual ID filler reel. 2334 about aromatic apples produced somewhere in Turkey, was `Turkey`s --algo-- Products`. 2336 salute to S&R teams again. Just realized I`m not hearing the CCCCCCI from East Turkistan, q.v. Maybe buried further than usual. 2337 music. 2343 third salute to S&R teams, music. 2348 ``always by your side`` promo, more music. 2352 s/off again citing 1330, 1930, 0400 bcs only, why? 2354 IS gets to repeat a few times before chopoff* uncovering XJPBS (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2179 monitoring; next: 0030 UT Wednesday WRMI 9395 to NNW 1000 UT Wednesday Unique R, Australia 5035 USB [low power] 2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html Like our website, a noncommercial service for which financial support is appreciated, this week from Greg Putz, KI7UED, Bountiful UT, ``Thank you for your work!`` with a generous check to Glenn Hauser, PO Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 USA One may also contribute by MO or cheque on a US bank to above address; or via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds, to woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** VANUATU [and non]. 7260, Feb 28 at 0741, RV still here but VP unreadable; and no Nigeria 7255-. However, at 0730 I was listening to 13755 RNZP, VG with `Melanesian Update` warning about Cyclone Judy hitting Vanuatu: in some pidgin with plenty of English terms. Earlier about that, at 0408, Ron Howard recommended to the WOR iog: ``Hi Glenn - Would be a good idea for folks to listen to Radio Vanuatu (7260 kHz.) over the next 24 hours. Certainly there will be active coverage about cyclone Judy. https://zoom.earth/storms/judy-2023/ Ron, California`` -- and before that: ``Thanks to alerts from Art Delibert and Ralph Perry today (Feb 27), Radio Vanuatu (7260) with extended broadcasting, well past normal closing down time of about 1100* UT! https://www.1news.co.nz/2023/02/27/tropical-cyclone-judy-forms-near-vanuatu/ https://www.vmgd.gov.vu/vmgd/index.php/forecast-division/tropical-cyclone/warning Tropical Cyclone Warning Number 4 for TORBA, PENAMA, SANMA and MALAMPA.`` And from Tony Rogers, BDXC-UK: ``I have been listening on the KiwiSDR in Brisbane, Australia, but it’s interesting to follow the programme content more clearly on their online stream at https://www.vbtc.vu/en/listen-online-2/ 73’s Tony`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 0012 UT March 1
