working VA2ONE, Andrew in Montreal, both heard. QRZ.com: ``LU8EGG

Hauser, OK, WOR)

** INTERNATIONAL WATERS [non]. 14325 USB, Oct 9 at 2202, Hurricane
Watch Net with advisories, web references; don`t venture out if you`re
in the Eye, as will swiftly resume blowing from opposite direxion.
Other HWN net is on 7268 LSB (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MEXICO. 6185-, Oct 9 at 0615, XEPPM, S9+15/25 of dead air or maybe
trace of modulation, which happens too often late at night; and as
usual frequency slightly offset minus. Normally they play a nice wide
variety of music (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 17855 & 17715, as previewed yesterday, Oct 9 at 2159 both
NAm & SAm SNR frequencies on air for token English on Wed. About same
level, S9/+10. The // to ME 15520 about same S but sounds better off
the back, lower MUF trumping azimuths. By Oct a lower band for us
should be more reliable at this hour, but they wait until B-seasons to
plunge to 9690 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY [and non]. 11785.006+, Oct 9 at 2158, VOT not off the air,
IS and English IDs, S9/+20 direct but insufficient vs noise level for
easy listening. Yet it`s much stronger than Romania 11800, which has a
somewhat more northerly path vs the auroral zone. At 2233 into UTwente
when measured, S9+5/15 and sufficient. 2239 ending `The Middle East
and Turkey`, music. 2243 `Sports Panorama`. 2251 headlines. 2253
s/off. 2254.3 IS to 2255* (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

dry!``

** U S A. 17790, 15770, 9455, 9395, Oct 9 at 1900, NO signals direct
from WRMI frequencies normally active now, as Hurricane Milton is
closing in. It seems that one must consult disgraced FB for latest
station info rather than own website! Several of our monitors had just
checked that; Mike Cooper copied this at 1843: ``WRMI Facebook posts
during the past two hours:

`Hurricane Milton Update as of 1645 UTC Wednesday October 9: We are
starting to get some wind gusts here at the transmitter site in
Okeechobee, and there are two tornadoes fairly close to us that we are
watching carefully. So far our transmitters are operating normally,
but we anticipate we will have to shut them down in the coming hours
as winds get stronger here. We will try to maintain our livestream at
www.wrmi.net. Thanks to everyone who has emailed us, texted, called,
etc. with your good wishes.

Hurricane Milton Update as of 1825 UTC Wednesday October 9: There are
tornado warnings in effect for the area of our transmitter site in
Okeechobee, and at least one confirmed tornado sighting. And winds are
getting quite high. So we are shutting down all transmitters now until
further notice. Our Internet stream should remain on the air. So far
we still have electrical power.

1835 UTC Wednesday Oct 9: Our frequency of 7730 kHz remains on air, as
well as our www.wrmi.net stream. Power went out briefly, but has
returned.```

I check FB at 2317 and find only one more entry: ``1838 UTC Wednesday:
Power has gone out again at the transmitter site. Only our Internet
stream remains``
https://www.facebook.com/wrmiradio
Good luck to Jeff and company to survive and recover from this (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9930, Oct 9 at 2204, this WTWW is on with TOMBS, but 9475 is
off. By 2407 recheck, both are on and VG direct, 9475 with SFAW.
Expect both to QSY around 0100 to 5920 and 5085 resp. (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** URUGUAY. 28513 USB, Oct 9 at 2212, QRZ from CX7RM, Montevideo.
QRZ.com: ``CX7RM Uruguay flag Uruguay, Pablo Goldaracena Sommaruga,
Pinares Calle Sagitario 20005, Punta del Este, Uruguay`` with lots of
photos of antennas, equipment, friends and family, dog, certificates
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Glenn Hauser logs October 8, 2024  View Printable Version
Wednesday, October 09 2024

Logs
** JAPAN. 13860, Oct 8 at 0702, S5/S7 music, the OSOB: NHK Japanese
for S America direct at 0655-0900 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MEXICO. Sporadic E was pushing 88 MHz earlier Oct 8 but no FM DX.
By 2207 I`m checking 10m CW beacons and find two of the reliable XEs:
28183.2, dash and VVV XE1RCS/B, and at 2209 on 28276, XE1JAL/B with a
VG signal, each logged several times before. In the WGB list, XE1JAL/B
is in Xalapa, Veracruz but XE1RCS not listed on any frequency. So this
was my last log in 2023y:

``28183+, May 15 at 2314, VVV XE1RCS/B and E+ something grid square:
XE1RCS Mexico flag Mexico, Radio Club Satélite A.C., Apartado Postal
341-A, Ciudad Satélite, Naucalpan, Edo Mex 53100, Mexico. WI5V list:
``28.183 XE1RCS C CERRO GORDO, MEXICO # 5W, VERTICAL New 8/08/08, Club
call 27/06/10 Back on 16 Sept 1`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NEW ZEALAND [and non]. 17675, Oct 8 at 0653, RNZP at S6/S9, almost
the OSOB: no 17600 Algeria, but JBA carrier on 17715. Nothing listed
then but maybe VATICAN prior to *0700 Arabic. NO signals on 15 MHz
band. Look at WWV prop as of 0600, notably K-index of 7.33!

``:Product: Geophysical Alert Message wwv.txt
:Issued: 2024 Oct 08 0600 UTC
# Prepared by the US Dept. of Commerce, NOAA, Space Weather Prediction
Center
#          Geophysical Alert Message
Solar-terrestrial indices for 07 October follow.
Solar flux 277 and estimated planetary A-index 55.
The estimated planetary K-index at 0600 UTC on 08 October was 7.33.
Space weather for the past 24 hours has been strong.
Geomagnetic storms reaching the G3 level occurred.
Radio blackouts reaching the R3 level occurred.
Space weather for the next 24 hours is predicted to be strong.
Geomagnetic storms reaching the G3 level are expected.
Radio blackouts reaching the R2 level are expected.``
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 17855, Oct 8 at 2204, REE N American frequency finally back
on air, last heard on Sept 25 and off by Sept 27, roughly one biweek.
But if it`s Tuesday, there must not be English, rather Ladino at this
hour. 17855 is S6/S9 direct, about equal to 17715 for S America, while
17855 ought to be much stronger, so something is still wrong. 15390
still gone of course, leaving 15520 backwards for ME the best at
S9/+10 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY [and non]. 11785, Oct 8 at 2158, VOT IS VP S7/S8 direct vs
local HNL up to S9+10, and even ROMANIA 11800 is a JBA carrier.
Propagation very disturbed. But at 2230 into UTwente, RRI is VG
S9+20/25, while there`s algo JBA around 11785 not even synch-locking,
so VOT must have crashed or be exciter-only as nothing else scheduled.
Something`s always erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 28203.5. CW, Oct 8 at 2208, VVV K6LLL/B and long pause.
Beacon not in WGB list but QRZ.com: ``K6LLL USA flag USA, Thomas N
Hobbs, South Orange Amateur Radio Association, PO BOX 2545, Mission
Viejo, CA 92690, USA.  Please visit our web site in honor of our
friend Ted:

Aug, Yr 2024, UTC 0051, Freq - kHz 6090, Macon M. Dail, Jr., Chief
Engineer. TWO cards each filled out individually identically, but
neither including name of recipient; printed on one side only. Perhaps
so I can file one under CUBA NON, the other under USA? Card design

or No. 152 via http://www.worldofradio.com/QSL.html
Postmarked 1 Oct 2024 Raleigh NC 275, received 7 Oct. Enclosed
photocopy of info sheet about ``Greenville`` station, including: 8
high-power SW transmitters. Five are rated for 500 kW, three for 250
kW, but all eight operated at 250 kW to reduce operating budget.
Equipped with approx. 40 broadcast antennas, between 03 and 305
degrees. 305? Per azimuthal map, that would aim at S Pacific, northern
Australia. I had emailed a report as requested on the DRM text;
axually decoded by NH kiwiSDR, not aimed thataway. This was not one of
those transmitters, only 6.5 kW as in my original report and reply
from him here:
https://www.w4uvh.net/ghlogs_2024_0829_0904.txt
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2263 monitoring: confirmed UT
Tuesday October 8 at 0342 the 0330 on WRMI 7780, VG S7+15/22 into RGV
= McAllen TX SDR.

Also confirmed Tuesday October 8 at 1312 the 1300 on WRMI 9955, VP
S6/S9 direct. At least no jamming heard, with outages and breakdowns
in Cuba. See:

https://www.reuters.com/world/americas/nearly-half-cuba-without-power-blackouts-deepen-2024-10-04/

Also confirmed Tuesday October 8 at 2000 on IRRS SW via AM Italia,
1322.995+, S9 into UTwente. Next:

2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW;
2330 UT Tuesday SW Radio, Germany 3975;
1930 UT Wednesday SW Radio, Germany 3975 & 6160;
2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW;
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S;
1630 UT Thursday SW Radio, Germany 6160.

contribution via PayPal to woradio at yahoo.com

One may also contribute by MO or check on a US bank to:

** U S A. WOR iogroup source for my remark about WRMI insurance: ``Not
good news for WRMI. After a storm a couple of years ago the station
revealed that it doesn’t carry insurance on the facility (“too
expensive”) and set up a GoFundMe for donations to enable repairs. Do
they have insurance now? Stephen Luce, Houston, Texas`` (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9275, Oct 8 at 2200, bit of music before 2201* - I just
caught WMLK closing down as sked. Other frequency late at night,
15150, is sometimes VG, sometimes JBA depending on propagation if not
operation (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** URUGUAY. 28493 USB, Oct 8 at 2212, CX8W in Montevideo working WT1A
in English, the latter JBA here. Says 100 watts to a vertical. Not in
QRZ.com; I was uncertain about the number in his unclear rapid
callsigning; another number? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 630.05 kHz approx., Oct 8 at 0703 UT, het upon 630
signals. Nothing this far off at mwoffsets (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
