								| Glenn Hauser logs March 8-9, 2022 | |
								| Wednesday, March 09 2022

											| ** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98 RCUSB, March 9 at 1507-1509, no signals from
LRA36 into three Brazilian SDRs checked. Someone in Lancaster PA was
also listening to nothing this Wednesday (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
 ** CHINA. 13530, March 8 at 2320, JBA carrier with flutter vs CODAR;13130 & 13020 likewise at 2321 & 2322, all traditional CNR1 jammer
frequencies against Sound of Hope (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. 13740, March 8 at 2318, RHC presents S9+25 of dead air withhum, while 13680 is only S6/S7 but managing to modulate Spanish
suptortedly and hummingly. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn
 Hauser, OK, WOR)
** ETHIOPIA [and non]. 7110, March 9 at 0334, R. Ethiopia on AM, goodin presumed Amharic via UTwente; intermittent Slavic ham talk on
exactly 7110 LSB only, evitable if listening in USB. I am not hearing
a separate Ukraine-connected broadcaster as reported the day before by
 Robin L Harwood, Tasmania:
``[SWL] unusual broadcast on 7110 kHz. There is a broadcaster on 7110in a European language with a news/current affairs program. I know
Ethiopia has been there but the announcers are definitely not African.
Frequent mentions of Ukraine with male and female presenters. Signal?
was good at 0400 but is now dropping up and down in QSB. Music bridges
and professional presentation. Language sounds Romanian or Polish.
Anyone also hearing it? 0422 7110 UNID News/current Affairs. Frequent
mentions of Ukraine. Signal was S9 at 0402 but has dropped to S6.
 Heard via Albertirsa, Hungary SDR.``
 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
 ** U S A. 13089 USB, March 8 at 2322, marine weather with geocoörds,S9, overmodulated and distorted, i.e. NMN, Chesapeake VA. Equally
defective and // on 12788 USB, NMG, New Orleans LA. Anyham would be
ashamed to emit such signals, but not the USCG. Note to editors,
``umlauts`` on English words cannot be replaced by adding an e. They
signify separate syllabification, not vowel quality (Glenn Hauser, OK,
 WOR)
** U S A. 7780, March 9 at 0200, WRMI with R. Svoboda in Russian, instead of RAE in Portuguese, which continues on 5800 only, while the
two used to be //. Svoboda is a test as prompted by the crowdfunding
campaign. Seems to be all-talk and continues past 0230 for the rest of
the hour. 7780 on NE antenna makes it OK S9/+15 into UTwente, but no
signal at Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, remote which seems to be funxional,
not blocked or jammed, but maybe too far: east of Moscow about the
same distance as west of Moscow to the Belarus` border.
Yet it`s still too early before local sunrises in Ukraine and western
Russia. Shame on USAGM for being unwilling to employ any of its own SW
 transmitters for these.
John Jurasek advises, ``Here's an update just posted to theCrowdfunding Page: "And, best news of the day; we have a first
mainstream media publicity about what we all have accomplished.
Congratulations to every one of you. This is your story:
 https://thehill.com/policy/technology/597411-grassroots-effort-uses-shortwave-radio-to-broadcast-voa-in-ukraine-russia"``
Hill writer Rebecca Klar just doesn`t get it, both in headline andbody referring to VOA broadcasting on SW ``in`` Russia or Ukraine. The
point is, this is INTO from outside, as it has to be.
Richard Langley reports: ``This is the latest update from thecampaign. Seems last night's broadcast was a test.
"Thanks to WRMI, our one-hour test transmission in Russian (from RadioSvoboda -- Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty) is on the air right now on
7780 kHz. (A clip below of the first minute or so with the station ID
in English followed by the Russian programming as heard on the U.S.
 East Coast).
"We are already getting solid reception reports from as far away asPoland so presumably it also being received in Russia, as well as the
surrounding countries where Russian is widely understood.
"We hope to start the daily transmissions in Russian soon, in additionto the VOA English program dedicated to Ukraine news which we began
airing Monday. "Thank you again everyone for your contributions.
Without you this would not be happening tonight!"
-- Richard Langley`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2128 monitoring: confirmed Tuesday March 8 at2330 on WRMI 9955, S9+10 direct, no jamming audible, but seems
undermodulated. [Much later at 0723 March 9, 9955 is still strong
S9+10, but now pulse jamming against Alex Scourby Bibling on TOMBS.
 Way to go!]
As usual zzzz thru Wed March 9 at 1030 on WRMI 5850; anyone hear it?Yes, Richard Lemke in Alberta: ``Dear Glenn: 5850, hearing World of
 Radio #2128, and confirming it, 1029, 1030 (55433), March 9 2022``

strong enough to hear this transmitter still suffering from squeal. At
first also an echo but that was someone`s earphone bleeding thru on a

audible but underneath Chinese, i.e. RFA via TINIAN, adding up to
S5/S7 with a SAH. Long time since I`ve heard any FD, but surely they
can do better with a loud & clear signal (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. 15140, March 8 at 2045, RHC English seems apolitical at themoment, but as I was dozing off in nap before 2100 French I think
there was something about Russia. Anyhow, The Other side:
``Russia-Ukraine War --- Castro's support for the invasion of Ukrainewill aggravate shortages in Cuba
The international sanctions against Russia will not only affect Cubain terms of tourism, but also as regards loans and collaboration in
 industry and transportation.
Roberto Álvarez Quiñones, Los Ángeles 03 Mar 2022 - 16:56 CET
Raúl Castro and Vladimir Putin. AP [caption] Cubans are greatly ashamed that their country has been dragged as aState, by the Castroist dictatorial mafia, into line with the new
imperial czar of "all the Russias", Vladimir I (with the same imperial
aspirations of Ivan IV, or Peter the Great) in his invasion of
Ukraine. It is as if in September 1939 the government of Federico
Laredo Bru (controlled by Batista) had shown solidarity with Hitler
when he invaded Poland and unleashed the most devastating war in
 history.
Flying in the face of all reason, given its location in the heart ofthe West, and its culture, Raul Castro has placed Cuba on the wrong
side. In doing so, the dictatorship has betrayed Cubans, Latin America
and the West, and has isolated Cuba in a move that evokes the betrayal
perpetrated by Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria and Finland when, together
with Fascist Italy, they sided with Nazi Germany...``

May I suggest that any editors who find the above too off-topic topublish, at least retain the headline and the link.
Anyhow2, also a reason to remind that due to the imposition of stupidDST March 13, as a running dog of Yanqui Imperialism, Habana goes from
UT-5 to UT-4, affecting most of their SW timings, causing
consternation abroad where the clox are not, yet wrecked. Thus begins
a Biweek of Confusion until March 27 when most of Europe change their
clox and not coincidentally the A-22 SW season begins, prompting
further time and/or frequency changes; but Cuba usually takes another
week or two to decide what to do; while Mexico, Australia and NZ don`t
adhere to either date. Anyhow2, the first RHC English hour of the day
traditionally moves one UT hour earlier to 19-20 UT but stays on same
frequency, subject to usual switching and/or feed errors.

** U S A. 15770, Monday March 7 at 2034, checking WRMI reception: MUFat 12 MHz at Nizhni Novgorod no good; S7-S9 into UTwente during BBB
nonsense; good S9/+15 into PEI remote, better than direct to here way
off the side of the NE beam from Okee. I`m preparing for WRMI`s new
 relay of VOA webcast-only `Flashpoint Ukraine` at 2105-2130, so I
 stick with PEI.
A crowdfunding campaign bought the WRMI time, since VOA refuses to airthis program on any of its scores of SW transmitters! See
 https://fundrazr.com/radiowaves?ref=ab_4cROT3YnWyI4cROT3YnWyI
apparently headed by one Kate Neiswender, Esq., Lake Arrowhead, CA,
 US.
Relay starts at 2100 with VOA News, the YL caster admitting at closingthat she`s remote. Isn`t it about time to reopen the VOA Newsroom
 safely?
`FPUK` in 25 minutes has a broad roundup of stories from within andwithout Ukraine, including outsourced from AP and Reuters. It may seem
inadequate for those of us watching MSNBC & CNN wall-to-wall. And
 it`s
M-F only: as we all know, nothing ever happens on Sat/Sun. Anchor
Steve Miller says from next week, March 14, time for it will advance a
sesquihour to 1935 UT -- obviously 60 minutes of it due to imposition
of EDT instead of EST, irrelevant abroad. Can WRMI accommodate that? I
asked Jeff and he says they shall, 1935 still on 15770.
Miller utters ``ya/know`` over and over in an interview, as bad asChristiane Amanpour. He never mentions this being on SW now, unlike
Steve Herman, W7VOA who twitted about it. For USAGM, SW is a low-
priority almost-obsolete ``platform`` of possible use in the wilds of
 Africa.
Last story at 2126 is about a cameraman who was killed when the KyivTV tower was hit, altho it did not collapse. By now the signal via
PEI is fading down; as at 2130 WRMI reverts to R. Prague in French.
 R. Prague International was sacrificed for this but still has theseother times on WRMI in English, per skedgrid: 1300/1200 except Sundays
 on 9955; daily 2330 on 5850; 0130 Tue-Sat on 5800; 0400/0300 daily on
 9955; 0400 daily on 5800. Double/times with a slant refer to airings
on Systems with an upcoming DST change. RPI is of course another
station refusing to do any SW itself (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** INTERNATIONAL VACUUM. CNN on unknown satellite frequency, into DTVcable channel 50 of Suddenlink, Enid, March 6 at 2050-2100 UT is not

** U S A. 4790, UT Monday March 7 at 0300 initial show of WBCQ ConcertHall on Radio Angela, Uncle Bill introducing, says may have guest
hosts later as show evolves; tonight: Act I of Rossini`s Barber of
Seville. Bill refers us to web for synopsis. I`m listening first via
Maryland remote but there is that pulsing whine and occasional
uteblaaps. To Missouri SDR it`s S8/+10, no whine but nearby storm
crashes. Hunting around for best remote, my comments to WOR iog:
Not so good - Traverse City MI gets storm crashes now at 0315 as wouldany in a wide area within hundreds of miles of the storm front from TX
to IN centered over MO. CODAR also audible. I haven`t found a better
one tonight. Wash DC area with less storm noise, no CODAR, but some
other continuous whinepulsing. Brunt of signal is heading right into
the storm area. Not making it at all to UTwente. Chris Smolinski
provides seven Kiwis at Westminster MD. I`m trying 8074 which is
pretty good but still with the DC-area whinepulse in the background.
 What is causing that??
It`s tempting to listen to `Encore` classical music on 5950 WRMI,stronger signal and higher frequency amounting to less storm noise,
S9+10/35 into Missouri, starting with Poulenc, Les Biches. Back on
4790, Act I of BOS is over about 0435 and UB says Act II plays next
week. To fill out the bihour tonight, some PDQ Bach starting with the
1712 Overture. But competition now from another BCQ, 6160, q.v. (Glenn

Russian service of RUI, i.e. AWR Wavescan; and on to item about the
finale of Brazuguese DX program Encontro DX, canceled on Rádio

 ** U S A. 15770 - this just in to the WOR iog via Martyn Williams:https://twitter.com/W7VOA/status/1500891270100799501
A crowdfunding campaign has resulted in VOA`s `Flashpoint Ukraine` via
WRMI, since VOA itself refuses to air it on SW, starting March 7 at
2105-2130 M-F after the news -- grid shows this will be at the expense
of Radio Prague! 15770 is aimed NE toward Europe, but remains to be
heard how far it may penetrate after dark.
I`ve hinted in the past to Jeff White that he should put at least someNPR news on WRMI as a public service, offsetting crap like TOMBS,
SMTV, etc., etc. (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
 ** U S A. 5830, March 7 at 0702, S9+20/30 of dead air from WTWW-1,while Ted`s Toy, 5085 WTWW-2 continues modublaring, prompting for rock
requests, and ``pinning the needle`` at S9+60 on my R75, hardly ever
happening with a non-local signal. Think of all the hot meals for
needy Lebanese which could have been purchased for the cost of all
that 5830 wasted juice. Unusually, Ivo Ivanov says 5830 was still on
the air and modulating Scriptures for America at 1058. Something`s

 March 3, 1800-1830 on 9770 via Woofferton, has still failed to appear;
if it is ever starting when and where? The war is on! There was about
one second of a weak carrier cutting on and off at 1759 today,
listening via UTwente. Nor anything at remotes in Russia. 73, (Glenn
Hauser [sent at 1807 UT, not posted until 1854 following moderation
delay], also immediately via WOR iog)
** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2128 monitoring: confirmed SaturdayMarch 5 from 2031.7 on WA0RCR, 1860 AM, Wentzville MO, VG into nearby

crashes; S9+10 into nearby MO SDR with heavier crashes closer to the
 storms.
As usual, zzz missed checking Sunday March 6 at 1330 on WMRI Europevia Channel 292, Germany, 9670; did anyone hear it? Next:

 ** U S A. (5085), UT Sun Mar 6 at 0120 tune-in, WTWW-2 webcast for`TOUTA`. Once you hear this pristine $ tereo webcast you won`t want to
put up with the lousy monaudio on 5085. Starting to wrap up at 0149
with last piece but Ted can`t wait to get back to rock, overriding it
after a few notes. Probably started early before 0100.
Meanwhile, `Encore` on WRMI is mostly simulmissed this time, and I seethat the latest Playlist anyway has not yet been loaded to
 https://www.tumbril.co.uk/playlists
I do hear the last dekaminute on 5850 via Knoxville, while Missouri is
buried in storm noise, also audible at KXV. Only other feasible chance
on WRMI will be UT Mon 0300 on 5950 --- exactly same time as début of
WBCQ Concert Hall on 4790 Radio Angela. With so little classical on
SW, a shame has to be at same time as Encore, but UB says it`s the
best logistical time for him. And both will be shifting one UT hour
earlier next week from March 14, so imposition of wacky DST won`t help

 ** U S A. (104.9), UT Sun March 6 at 0442, WCLV Cleveland OH webcastduring `Quiet Hour` announces the date for QSY and power/coverage
increase to 90.3 MHz: March 28. Also during previous 03-04 UT hour,
 `Weekend Radio` was a sesquidecade-old repeat from 2007y as revealed
by a `current` news reference; when Robert ``Sagebrush Bob`` Conrad
sounded and was much younger; no explanation. Hope he is not ailing

UNIDENTIFIED. 27300 USB, March 6 at 0012, freebander I guess ratherthan legal CBer, a mite with a distinct Oz accent, seems to ID as
 ``World Radio 304`` in contact with ``World Radio 918``. So where`s
the World Radio callbook? ``It looks like there aren't many great
matches for your search`` --- surely nothing to do with Tulsa or West
Virginia. Could it really be from Oztralia? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
