Friday, August 04 2023
** CUBA. 11670, Aug 3 at 0635, RHC Spanish extension, S9+10/20 with sidespurs peaking about plus/minus 2.5 kHz but audible further out. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** NEW ZEALAND. 9655, Thu Aug 3 at 0629, BBC news relay finishing, RNZ ID and into their own ``news at 6:30``. Surprise bigsig S9+10/20. Good they are avoiding 9700 due to Cuba, Romania, Turkey. No signal on 11725 so moved? Or could be test as first Wed/Thu of month is maintenance day. Earlier at 0604 John Hudak reported to ODXA: ``I heard Radio New Zealand on 6095 kHz this morning at 0540 UT (Aug. 3) with a fair signal. News items in English with a couple of definite RNZ idents. They abruptly went off at 0543 in mid sentence but then the carrier came back on a few times, and then nothing more. Could this have been a program feed error to a wrong transmitter? Is 6095 even a frequency used by RNZ? I don't see it listed on their web page. John Dundas, ON`` Neither 9655 nor 6095 on websked, so probably back to formers, but could change at any time (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2202) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2201 monitoring. NOT confirmed UT Thursday August 3 at 0030 or 0130 on WRMI 9395, because it`s still off the air. Finally posted on disgraced FB of WRMI around same time: ``We are experiencing a major technical problem with our transmitter on 9395 kHz, so this frequency is currently off the air. We may be able to repair the problem as soon as tomorrow, so stay tuned.`` In fact, 9395 was back on the air by 2300 UT check August 3. Thursday, August 03 2023

From: Glenn Hauser via groups.io Sent: Thursday, August 03, 2023 3:16 AM
Subject: [WOR] Glenn Hauser log roundup July 26-August 2, 2023 BRAZIL. 9665.36, July 31 at 2354, RVM definitely now on the plus side direct, about 9665.35; while Brasil SDR a few minutes later shows 9665.37 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) BRAZIL Much upper flank oddity frequencies of Rádio Voz Missionária these days, Aug 3rd at 02.20 UT S=7-8 on 9665.372 (!) – much sweet singer performed, also S=7 5940.211 at 02.23 UT, S=6-7 on 11750.025 kHz at 02.25 UT all here in Perseus net SDR. in southern Germany 15190.129 kHz S=7 ‘unstable fq’ signal from downunder at 03.02 UT R Inconfidencia. re CUBA 6000even RHC in English fluttery signal across the Atlantic Ocean at 02.42 UT S=9+10dB, from 250 kW beast at Quivican San Felipe TITAN bcast center. Also heard an low power signal on 9534.996 kHz, tentat.? maybe RHC Spanish heard from Bejucal site – or is it the Kashgar Xinjiang local domestic signal from China?, much covered by a OTHR on broadband range of 9534 to 9551 kHz at 02.48 UT, 11670even kHz RHC Sp news read by female at 02.51 UT S=9+15 dB in Germany items of ‘trabaradores’ 11760even also S=9+20dB here in Europe, but co-channel Iran IRIB co-channel signal also on upper flank of 11760.011 kHz too. And a TERRIBLE TOTAL DISTORTED RHC Sp signal of Quivican SoAM Chile target service on 11850even kHz, S=9+10dB in southern Germany at 02.56 UT. CUBA and as usual in past months a reserve TX unit of RadioCuba in use on LOWER frequency side FLANK on 5024.995 kHz, so likely a tx unit replacement in use after the hurricane’s damage. ?! 02.38 UT S=6-7 here in southern Germany. No hum audio heard – so far. (wb) re COLOMBIA and a tiny S=3-4 signal string seen and ‘heard’ on 5909.949 kHz at 02.33 UT Aug 3rd. (wb) [selected SDR options, span 12.5 kHz RBW 15.3 Hertz] (wb df5sx, wwdxc BC-DX TopNews Aug 3) COLOMBIA. 5909.952, July 27 at 0641, tropical music at S8/S9, better signal than usual from always off-frequency Alcaraván Radio. Brief burst of ``running water`` ute QRM. Manuel Méndez in Spain reports: ``Alcaravan Radio 5910 on air again after about 10 days out. Log in Oleiros, La Coruña, NW of Spain, Sangean ATS-909X, cable antenna, 8 meters. COLOMBIA, 5910, Alcaraván Radio, Puerto Lleras, 0450-0526, 27-07, religious and Latin American songs, Spanish, religious comments, Colombian songs “Llaneras”. 25432.`` However, I don`t think it had been totally off. In regular bandscans I had been crossing a JBA offset carrier, but not logged. Now there is also a JBA carrier on 6010, probably Brasil rather than still inactive sibling station LV de tu Conciencia. Ron Howard also replied: ``Greetings, Manuel, from California. July 27, at 0742 & 0910 UT, heard a decent level carrier on 5910 kHz, but no audio at all; normally in the past I always had good audio here.`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2201) CUBA. 6100, July 27 at 0646, undermodulated Spanish with humbuzzwhine, no doubt RHC where something`s always wrong. 5025, July 27 at 0650, S9+20/30 of dead air except for some humbuzz, from R. Rebelde, something`s always wrong at Radio Cuba. David Crawford, FL replied to my previous reports, July 27 at 0156 UT: ``Tonight's treat is what sounds like video buzz, rather than the recently-typical Rebelde FM audio, on 5025. And after the one reported active "sunset" session, HM01 has been quiet again since, at least for the local midday and sunset schedules. I have not checked the madrugada scheduled times and freqs.`` Ron Howard, CA replies later on July 27: Cuba (5025) noted at 0743 & 0909 UT, with strong carrier, along with a strong hum, but no audio. Ron`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2201) CUBA. 11760, July 28 at 0715, overtime RHC Spanish S9+10 but JBM. Something`s always wrong at RHC. It`s the only log I make this late-night due to horrible S9+10 noise level all over the bands: suspect from neighbor and/or thru power lines. I may have to rely even more on remote receivers, but many of them also have `line noise` problems. Abated by 15 UT enough to tell that propagation is now degraded (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) CUBA. 15230, July 28 at 2316, RHC S9/+10 of dead air. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) CUBA. 11760, July 29 at 0704, RHC extension still on, in Spanish, S9/+10 and somewhat undermodulated. Also unusually with dirty parasitic spurs plus/minus 3 kHz. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) CUBA. 6000, July 31 at 0642, RHC English JBM with humwhine, S9+20/30. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) CUBA. 11950, July 31 at 2349, S9/S4 of dead air from `Mesa Redonda` alt. Spanish frequency; supposed to be // 6000, which at 2355 is DA or maybe JBM. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) CUBA. 13650, July 31 at 2347, all-music CRI `Portuguese` relay, now with dirty spurs about 2.5 kHz plus/minus. Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OOK, WOR) CUBA. 11670, August 1 at 0646, tonight`s extra RHC, Spanish, S9+10/20 and undermodulated; also with squeal and dirty spurs about plus/minus 3 kHz. Same symptom I logged July 29 at 0704 on 11760. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) CUBA. 11760, August 2 at 0629, RHC Spanish prolongation here tonight, S9+20 and good modulation for a change, no spurs either. Glenn Hauser logs August 1-2, 2023 |

Thursday, August 03 2023
** CANADA. Further random check of 6754 USB during the night of August 1 UT, and of 15034 USB during the following day have not found any signals from CHR, Trenton Military VOLMET. Nor on August 2. EiBi shows one more Trenton frequency, 11232, not VOLMET but presumably for 2-way contacts; anything there? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. 11760, August 2 at 0629, RHC Spanish prolongation here tonight, S9+20 and good modulation for a change, no spurs either. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** EGYPT. 9440.004, August 2 at 2155, R. Cairo horribly distorted English, first reading by UTwente, maybe synching on a mod peak other than carrier center, then settling on usual 9439.995 at S9+20/40; totally unlistenable. Something`s always egregious in Egypt (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** MALDIVES [non]. 11620, August 2 from a few sex past *1500 open carrier on, S6/S9 direct; finally at 1502 English ID as VOMK, undermodulated; 1503+ switch to YL in presumed Dhivehi with better modulation. This is totally normal daily reception despite target opposite side of globe; and K-index at 15 is 4, which should be disturbing high-latitude paths. 1529 quick ID and s/off in English before 1530*. For over a year this has been listed as Uzbekistan site and some accept that, but I do not. Tashkent does not provide such good reliable reception here for any other broadcast, and V. of Martyrs Korea will not disclose true site for some reason. Reasonable guesses are Taiwan or Reach Beyond Australia, which carries some other VOMK broadcasts. In fact, the latest WRTH update of August 1 now shows under Korea South, 11630knx for this, i.e. Kununurra, Australia. It`s still missing from HFCC; Aoki says Tashkent, and EiBi as clandestine, /XUU = unknown. TDoA direxion-finding in past sometimes pointed to one or the other, but is extremely unreliable. At 1525 I decide to try it again, while hearing it well via Western Australia KiwiSDR: picking 3 sites: Hanoi, Qatar and South Africa. It runs and comes up with ``most likely`` 12.00 S, 18.00 E, i.e. Kuemba, ANGOLA. Yeah, surely not. And what are the chances of a true reading landing on exact .00 coördinates? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA [and non?]. Large tropo blob to the east of Enid, August 2 at 0456 UT when I start checking. BAD signals on RF: 7, 9, 11, 14, 16, 17, 18, 24, 26, 28, 29, 34, 36. Note that 7, 18, 24 and 29 are major `local` OKC signals which must be disrupted by DX QRM: extremely unusual especially for KOKH 24, probably by KFSM Fort Smith? No, KFSM is on both low-power 24 and high-power 18. 16 KOCM is normally on the BAD side. 17 is also Enid`s only local: can`t be sure whether it`s off or QRMed, but next morning it`s normal. Only decodes around 0500: RF 31, KOET 3-1 = OETA Eufaula RF 20, KQCW 19-1 for Tulsa RF 21, KHBS-DT 40-1 Fort Smith AR from OK site, so explore all subs: 40-2 ARK-CW, 40-3 MeTV-AR, 40-4 STORY. These match rabbitears listings (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SPAIN. 17855, Wednesday August 2 at 2200, token English from SNR: VG into Maryland SDR, but part 2 about famous football players, no news. Geez, isn`t anything significant happening in Spain? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 11785.009, Aug 2 at 2200, VOT English VG into UTwente and sufficient direct, even good modulation, usual features but am dozing thru most of it, having missed naptime earler this afternoon. Off before 2300 (Glenn Hauser, 104F OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2201 monitoring: ``From: Richard Lemke, St. Albert, Alberta, Canada, the desk of Richard’s listening Post, Radio: JRC NRD-535 HF, Antenna: random long wires in the trees. Dear Glenn: Confirming World of Radio #2201, notes, loggings, 9395 kHz, rough conditions hearing sometimes no signal on 9395 kHz, solar blackout, WRMI: 9395, static in area, QRN, 0031, 0045, 0054 (45343), 0059, 0130, August 1 UTC 2023. 73’s, Richard`` NOT confirmed Tuesday August 1 at 2330 on WRMI 9395, because it`s OFF the air! 9455 & 9955 are on as normal. 9395 is still off at 0639 and 1459 chex August 2. Wonder what`s wrong; it`s a major WOR frequency. Still off at 2355 August 2; nothing about this on disgraced FB of WRMI. Also confirmed Wednesday August 2 at 2100 on WBCQ 7490 -72 Hz = 7489.928, S5/S7 into Maryland SDR. Next, maybe: 0030 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW Thanks this week to William T Hassig, Mt Prospect IL, ``Congrats on 2200 World of Radios`` with a generous check in US funds on a US bank to: Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 One may also contribute via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds to: woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 0001 UT August 3 _ Hard-Core-DX mailing list Hard-Core-DX@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/hard-core-dx http://www.hard-core-dx.com/

 WORLD OF RADIO HITLIST update
Hi Glenn, My latest Hitlist update. https://www.w4uvh.net/hitlist.htm 1) Australia - Unique R: added entries for frequencies and programmes 2) Israel - KAN: Updated entry for KAN English news (Thanks to Daniel Rosenzweig) 3) USA - KVOH: Deleted entries for schedules and live streams as all have been discontinued The next update is scheduled for early September. Best wishes and 73, Alan Roe ** CUBA. 11670, August 1 at 0646, tonight`s extra RHC, Spanish, S9+10/20 and undermodulated; also with squeal and dirty spurs about plus/minus 3 kHz. Same symptom I logged July 29 at 0704 on 11760. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** EGYPT. 9439.995, August 1 at 2139 check via UTwente, R. Cairo is on at S9+35/40 with extremely distorted and undermodulated music during ``English`` sesquihour. Something`s always egregious in Egypt, abysmal at Abis. WRTH shows 2 x 125 kW at Abis only (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** KURDISTAN [non]. 17450.002, August 1 at 1546, S7/S9 into UTwente, ME music. 1550 there is slightly offset CW QRM, mainly sending numbers. Now there are two stations making fast SAH, one talking and one musicking; obviously Dengê Welat and Recep`s jammer. Later by 1615 the additional warbling QRM is like fast RTTY. Why doesn`t D.W. move away? Perhaps the jamming be not nearly so effective as it seem from afar. Basic propagation tells us that the higher the frequency, the further the skip zone. Uzbekistan to Kurdistanish Turkey may be optimum, while Emirler as a jamming source in central Turkey may be way too close, but makes Recep feel good, at least trying to censor it. Emirler to Diyarbakir is 785 km = 488 miles, per distancefromto.net which pinpoints Emirler considerably NW of Ankara near the Black Sea cost, and Bolu, Duzce, Karabuk --- but WRTH 2023 map page 57 nestles Emirler right close to Ankara, just to the south of the capital. Ankara/Diyarbakir: 674 km = 419 miles, even worse. Of course it would require constant monitoring by D.W. PKK HQ, wherever that may be, Belgium per page 673 or WRTH 2023; which also asserted the 11 and 7 MHz frequencies were via Bulgaria; and constant contact with the ops in Tashkent effectively to jump around mousily vs the cattily Turx, but they have done so in the past. I am checking this after hearing nothing in the 17450-17495 range direct, nor had noticed anything for several days at random tunethrus, so could D.W. have made a total frequency change, even to a different band? Apparently not, but direct propagation from Uzbekistan, even Turkey has been degraded. Still clashing past 1800, jamusic generally atop. At 1810, UTwente displays as 17450.010. By 1847 the rapid rippling SAH is even more severe, indicating both signals strong and near equal level. At 1921 again with RTTY warble QRM too. Still past 2000. At 2003 I check direct: two JBA carriers approx. 17450.15 and 17450.26 -- maybe that`s the RTTY transmitter. On UTwente at 2050 now there is only one VG signal with singing, presumably the jammer, on 17450.002. By now D.W. may have closed or faded out near midnight. Still no other signals up to 17500. Still VG music on 17450 past 2137. At 2158 I make a quick switch to 11785 for VOT English. Cuts on shortly after 2200 for a few sex without modulation, then off again. At 2203 I go back to 17450 and find it`s finally off, just the warble QRM. At 2205 I go back on 11785.008 and find it`s back on to stay amid news in English, S9+20. I would not be surprised if it`s the very same transmitter tho can`t be certain on a single receiver whether they overlapped. For B22 WRTH 2023 showed DW until 2200*, but version 17 Aug 1 of the A23 updater shows 17460v until 2100*. I`ve been on UTwente continuously for over 6 hours. It`s a great resource, huge capacity so you can always get on, and no timeouts (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 11785, opening of VOT English August 1 at 2200 is covered under KURDISTAN [non], following 6+ hours of jamming 17450 Dengê Welat. Not really paying attn to content this time, but off around 2255, no extra German or Portuguese (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2201 monitoring: confirmed UT Tuesday August 1 at 0030 on WRMI 9395, S9+10/20 into Missouri SDR. Next: 2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW 1000 UT Wednesday Unique R, NSW 5035-LSB 1030 UT Wednesday Unique R, NSW 5035-LSB [previous #2200] 2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW 0030 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW Thanks this week to William T Hassig, Mt Prospect IL, ``Congrats on 2200 World of Radios`` with a generous check in US funds on a US bank to: Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 One may also contribute via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds to: woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 15610, August 1 at 2006, RCC talk, S5/S6 direct; 2019 EWTN ID in passing -- so ``more Catholic than the Pope`` WEWN English is definitely back, gone since last summer. Still registered for entire A23 at 19-24 UT, 250 kW at 85 degrees. What about at other hours? Was 9385 at 00-09, but IIRC was different transmitter and crashed even before 15610. And 9470 at 09-13, even rarer if ever. Before that, 15610 also ran 1300-1900, not this morning (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 2315 UT August 1 _ Hard-Core-DX mailing list Hard-Core-DX@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/hard-core-dx http://www.hard-core-dx.com/
