Glenn Hauser logs March 28, 2025  View Printable Version
Friday, March 28 2025

Logs
** CUBA [and non]. 1040 kHz, March 28 at 0639 UT, wobbler below WHO.
No others at the moment, like 550, 650, 870 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MEXICO. 1549.815 kHz, March 28 at 0610 UT, I finally compare the
off-frequency het believed to be from XEREL Morelia, to my keyboard =
F# below Cmiddle, 185 Hz per
https://homes.luddy.indiana.edu/donbyrd/Teach/MusicalPitchesTable.htm
Previous estimates were 1549.82 but I could tell it was not .820
precisely (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. Surprised to see this in Mike Bugaj`s daily FCC update
for Thursday March 28 {sic, March 27} on the WTFDA FMDX-NA list:
KJAL    91.9    McAlister    OK    ex KBCW-FM
KJAR    95.9    Woodward    OK    ex KCSC-FM
WTFDA FM Database already has the new calls, and supposedly still
classical like 90.1 KUCO, but not specified as relaying it. However,
FCC, both AM Query and LMS show both calls only as D-eleted somewhere
else! So I Contact KUCO: ``Please explain what`s going on with
McAlester & Woodward. FCC info shows these have new calls, KJAL and
KJAR, and I no longer hear KBCW or KCSC mentioned on your IDs for
KUCO. Have you sold them off to EMF or something?`` Under normal
conditions I can`t hear either of them in Enid; think I heard 95.9
under a previous previous call when tropo were up (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2288 monitoring: confirmed first

Financial support appreciated for our non-commercial public service
program: thanks for a contribution from Philip Erickson, ``for support
of SWL and WOR from a listener since 1977``, via PayPal in US funds
but not necessarily, to woradio at yahoo.com

One may also contribute via MO or check on a US bank to: Glenn Hauser,
P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. Re my 790 log assumed to be KGHL Billings MT, Tim Hall
replies: ``Another possibility: KFGO also runs CBS news, also uses the
"mighty 7-90" slogan, and is phonetically more similar to KSVN.`` --
Tnx, Tim, yes, I overlooked that one in the NRC AM Log. Could be, but
let`s compare their powers and direxionality: KFGO Fargo ND is U2
5000/5000, totally northward at night, while KGHL is U1 5000/1800,
i.e. non-direxional day and night.

Then March 28 at 0634 UT slightly above the pileup, local weather with
a low of 24, I think, so in the North, but no further clues, 0637 into
C2CAM. KFGO is on that net, not KGHL. Of course, by now it could be a
totally different C2CAM station.

But meanwhile: ``Latest IRCA Slogans List compiled by Kraig Krist
https://misc.kg4lac.com/irca/
lists 3 stations on 790 kHz with a "Mighty 790" slogan: KURM AR, KGHL
MT and KFGO ND. 73 Alan`` Pennington, UK, and: ``KURM is silent acc.
to FCC. 73, Mauno`` Ritola, Finland. And also as in NRC AM Log as of
last August (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 1290, March 28 at 0644-0647 UT, Mexmx and numerous
liners/IDs as ``La Máxima ... más música`` something ``punto uno FM``,
by SHVA = super-hype voice actor. Google search first on slogan and
1290 gets numerous hits for ``La Maxxima 103.1 FM`` in Siloam
Springs AR, i.e. KUOA, U1 5000/31, address in Springdale, with 103.1
of course a mere translator, K276CO, per NRC AM Log, and in
Fayetteville per Radio-locator.com with 1290 coverage maps showing it
right on the OK border east of Tulsa, apparently a smidgin on the AR
side. And address in Rogers AR. Unusual to hear it, so bet it`s on day
power in the nightmiddle.  It`s 300 km = 186 stmi from Enid. Note
recently Jan 27 at 0740 I had an open carrier on 1290. I don`t find
any definite log by me of KUOA in the past 20 years. As of the 2020
census, S.S. population was 17,287, and as of 2023, that town had an
increasing Hispanic population of 4,117, or 23.8% (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. In high storm + line noise level, many `regular` ND
beacons are not audible, but JBA carriers, March 28 at 0613 UT,
likely: 245 kHz, FS Sioux FallS SD; 267 kHz, HET HenryEtTa OK; 392
kHz, FMZ, FairMont NE (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 1061, March 28 at 0642 UT, JBA carrier hetting
whatever`s left on 1060 without New Orleans. Not a 9/kHz plan
frequency, which would be 1062. Suspect Cuba, like the 1-kHz-off 1141
often heard but not right now. WRTH shows one Cuban on 1060, 25 kW
CMGW, Radio 26, Jovellanos, Matanzas (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 1650 kHz, March 28 at 0608 UT, still hearing the tone,
not het, believed to come from KSVE El Paso, as I finally compared it
to my keyboard = D# above C-middle, or 311 Hz per:
https://homes.luddy.indiana.edu/donbyrd/Teach/MusicalPitchesTable.htm
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 9170-9217 approx., March 28 at 0620, multi-carrier
multi-tones beating over this wide 47 Hz span, peaking S9 circa 9183,
as logged recently in this same area. What is it? (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

Glenn Hauser logs March 27, 2025; World of Radio 2288  View Printable Version
Friday, March 28 2025

Logs
** CUBA [non]. 11860, 11930, 13820, March 27 at 1955, R. Martí still
absent from Greenville SW, altho reportedly has resumed on MW 1180
from FlaKeys (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2288)

** GUAM. 11590, Thu Mar 27 at 1443, TWR IS, announcement. Aoki shows
KTWR at 1415-1445 in Uyghur on Mon/Tue/Wed/Thu only, followed by
Kazakh daily from 1445. Haven`t the Uighurs got enough problems with
cultural genocide by the ChiCom, without being pestered to become
Christians as well? Would the ChiCom have a preference? (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** KURDISTAN [non]. 11540, March 27 at 1442, choral martial music,
S7/S9, must be Turkish jammer; only that and Dengê Gel via ARMENIA are
listed anywhen on 11540 by EiBi. Aoki has Turkey only, but many
adjacent Dengê Gel listings allegedly via Uzbekistan: an age-old
conundrum. No sign of a second signal now, so DG may well be somewhere
else.

Has there been any reduxion in DG broadcasting and/or jamming as a
result of this, as reported by DW?: ``Mar 1, 2025  #pkk
#abdullahöcalan --- Kurdish PKK militants have declared a ceasefire
with Turkey two days after their jailed leader asked them to lay down
their arms. Abdullah Öcalan urged fellow members of his outlawed
Kurdistan Workers' Party to disarm and disband. The group, which has
fought for autonomy since the 1980s, is considered a terrorist
organization in the EU, US and Turkey. Turkish President Recep Tayyip
Erdogan welcomed Öcalan's overture, but warned against what he
called provocations aiming to disrupt peace efforts`` (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2288)

** MADAGASCAR. 17700, Thu March 27 at 1412, YL talk, VP S5/S7 direct
but the OSOB, off by 1437 recheck. Aoki shows TWR Asia via Talata.
Lang depends on DOW; on day 5 = Thu at 1400-1430* it`s Hindi. In
depressed propagation, K=4.67 at 1500, after G2 geomagnetic storms,
exercises its low-latitude transequatorial advantage, even tho very
offbeam thisaway, 250 kW at 45 degrees (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

but not necessarily, to woradio at yahoo.com

P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 790 kHz, March 27 at 0700 UT, ``Mighty 790, KSVN`` sounded
like, but no such call listed. In NRC AM Log, the only Mighty on 790
is KGHL Billings MT, U1 5000/1800. CBS news followed and that also
fits for KGHL. Any station ending in -90 is tempted to brand itself
rhymingly as ``mighty`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 1420 kHz, March 27 at 0641 UT, ``La Caliente, 106.3 FM y
1420 AM`` = that leads in NRC AM Log to KBHS Hot Springs
AR, U1 5000/87 - dominating, sounds like
more than 87 watts. WTFDA FMDB has one frequency match for same
station, but not so hot, only ``La Zeta``. 106.3 is of course a mere
translator exalted to primacy, K292HG (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 12159-12209, March 27 at 1446, huge multi-carrier,
multi-tones beating over this wide 50 kHz range, tapering off at the
edges, peaking circa 12193 at S9+25. 12160 WWCR not on yet, but after
1500 could be mutually problematic. What is this? (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

Glenn Hauser logs March 25-26, 2025  View Printable Version
Thursday, March 27 2025

Logs
** AUSTRALIA [and non]. 11900, Mar 26 at 1523, S8/S9 in Burmese with
its unique intonation, easily recognizable; yes, it`s RBA sked at
1500-1530; the SSOB except for WWCR 12160 and its dirty spurs (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA [and non]. 550, March 26 at 0621 UT, wobbling against 550.0
stations; axually more like wind whining at varying pitches. Local
device could infect thus, but others have also noted wobbler on 550.
Right now not heard on any other spots as previously: 650, 870, 1040
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA [non]. 11860, 11930, 13820, Mar 26 at 1614 and 1810, still no
signal from R. Martí as GB transmitters have been closed down.
However, OCB got a temporary reprieve; via Mike Barraclough, UK:

``[WOR] Federal employees of Radio Marti will return to their posts
March 26th
To: wor@groups.io · Wed, Mar 26 at 2:38 PM

https://www.americateve.com/miami/empleados-federales-radio-marti-regresaran-sus-puestos-este-miercoles-26-marzo-n5410460

AmericaNotificias (translation of Spanish to English)

``Sources from the U.S. Agency for Global Media and Congress have
confirmed to América TeVé that, as of this Wednesday, March 26, the
federal employees of Radio Martí will return to their jobs. According
to the information provided, Radio Martí's transmissions to Cuba, as
well as its audiovisual services and the updating of its website, will
be restored progressively. This return marks a key step in the
reactivation of the station, which has been a key source of
information for Cubans, offering free information, news and analysis
on the reality inside and outside the island``

``Federal employees of R Martí`` does not necessarily include the
operational staff of GB. Does not mean GB can turn SW right back on at
short notice, maybe never. Producing programming but only on web at
first? On Mar 26, Alan Roe says ``The Radio Martí Facebook page was
re-activated today with a new post at 1352 UTC at
https://www.facebook.com/martinoticias
saying: "¡Buenos Días Cuba!" Alan Roe, Teddington, UK``

Via Kai Ludwig, more about the RTV Martí situation:

But from HFCC, here is the A25 sked planned with usual slight
frequency changes, effective March 30, all 250 kW, with azimuths; some
frequencies are split into different adjacent segments, retained here
in case significant:

6030 00-12 205
7335 00-10 183
7365 00-03 184
7435 03-10 183
7335 10-14 184
9805 10-13 183
7365 12-14 205
13605 13-21 184 [ex-13820]
11860 14-22 183
11930 14-20 172
11930 20-21 172
11930 21-24 184
9565 21-24 184
7335 22-24 205
And how about 1180 kHz Marathon FL? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** ITALY. Roberto Pavanello replies to my Italcable report on 10000
kHz:
Sent: Tuesday, March 25, 2025 at 09:41:02 PM UTC
Subject: [playdx2019] Amici Italcable
https://dariotion.wordpress.com/tag/amici-di-italcable/

This claims it does have some kind of authorization and runs 90
watts:

source).

`9995 to 10005 kHz: This is set aside for standard time and frequency
stations, like WWV and WWVH on 10000 kHz.`

segnale orario italiano, quello generato a Torino dall’INRIM –
Istituto Nazionale di Ricerca Metrologica. Viene utilizzato un
trasmettitore Plessey ed un’ntenna Dipolo 1/2 onda dalle
coordinate JN53DV con 90 watt di potenza.``

Maybe I know too much Italian, but it seems to me that most
Anglophones could figure out most of the words. That blog has a lot of
interesting stuff, a little in English and none recently. I assume it
was by some Dario other than Monferini, but could not find any full
name. Like so many bloggers they don`t give themselves any credit by
name (via Glenn Hauser, WOR)

** SPAIN. 9690, Wed Mar 26 t 2300, token English from SNR, VG into
Maryland SDR and also audible on the other 3, 12030, 17715 and 17755,
opens by reciting A25 schedule without any language details, not even
English; preview topic to be book fair in Madrid, Comicon? 2303 into
news leading with EU citizens should prepare for the worst with 32
hours of survival supplies (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 5960.003-, March 25 at 2256, big open carrier into UTwente,
cut off at 2256.6*, back on *2257.4 and off* again, never heard IS,
but *2300.3 carrier on again at S9+40, and shortly sign on as if it`s
1330 on 13635; awry at Ankara; no further monitoring today. I hope to
avoid VOT as much as possible except for `Letterbox` on Sundays, chex
of offness or onness (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 5960 & 9610, March 25 at 2258, no signals from VOT into
UTwente, with 9610 occupied as usual by Mongolian from China, and
later at 2320, 5960 occupied by nothing but Chinese from East
Turkistan, std denunciation. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. USAGM -- what`s shut and what`s not: Sources say
USAGM have shut down essentially everything for Africa. So the only
things left (which apparently are statutorily required) are Martí,
Farsi to Iran, Mandarin to China, and maybe service to Afghanistan.
All other services to Africa and to the Far East are gone. They also
have shut down all the feeds to local FM stations in Africa and
elsewhere.

A federal judge has temporarily barred the U.S. Agency for Global
Media and Kari Lake, President Trump's senior adviser at the agency,
from moving ahead with plans to cut off all federal funds to Radio
Free Europe/Radio Liberty.

The international network is in court in Washington, D.C., seeking a
permanent reversal of Lake's orders to kill all funding for it and to
wind down all operations, despite a congressional appropriation of
$ 142 million for the network in the current fiscal year...

Financial support appreciated for our non-commercial public service
program: thanks for a generous contribution marking Vernal Equinox,
from Gerald T. Pollard, Raleigh NC, by check on a US bank to Glenn
Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702, and says, ``Many thanks for your
unique service to the world.``

** U S A. WTWW update from George McClintock, early UT March 26: solid
state amplifier had a problem, putting the 9930/5920 TOMBS transmitter
off for a couple days, now replaced and back on air; today already on
5920, changed early. The other transmitter may be off for up to two
weeks more, awaiting a replacement tube, at a better price from China
than rebuilding or a new one here. Tuning up on a low band but not on
a higher band, like 5085 vs 9475 was the same problem it had when on
Anguilla [I guess 6090 vs 11775]. By 2330 March 26, only 9930 is on
the air (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9395, UT Wed Mar 26 at 0030, one of dozens of `Wavescan`
airings on WRMI. Mid-part 0042-0051 about USAGM/VOA situation as of
March 19. Jeff quoted Kari Lake, NPR report, Jose Jacob obs of which
broadcasts were off the air, also Thailand, Philippines; Vatican and
Korea via Greenville; including some clips.

First item voiced by Ray Robinson referred to ``C M Stanbury [II] in
the USA`` getting a QSL for Commando Solo long ago. I can`t be
positive where he was on a particular date, but his QTH was Crystal
Beach, Ontario, on Lake Erie west of Buffalo USA, south of Niagara
Falls.

CMS2 hasn`t come up in a long time. Is not even in Wikipedia. He was a
prolific DX author, such as for Electronix Illustrated, and here are
some examples from 1969-70 of his own SW Newsletter, `published` by
multiple? carbon copies of his dirty-keyed typewriter with numerous
typos or strikeovers:
https://www.radioheritage.com/otsw/Newsletters/Short_Wave_Newsletter_Stanbury-II_1969-70.pdf

IIRC he was handicapped in some way. He`s hardly present on the
internet, except for some more at that site. I don`t find an obit or
even a bio (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9330, Mar 25 at 2328, WLCR on WBCQ is finally back on air,
in Portuguese, VG into Maryland SDR (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 600, March 26 at 0650 UT, again two Coast-to-Coast-AM
affiliates *very* far out of synch, WMT IA as always on top. I finally
time the difference as 57! seconds, which is far more than satellite
delay or internet delay could account for. At 0700 I can`t catch any
ID of the understation, just WMT, but probably KTBB TX, or maybe WREC
TN; Fox ``news``, which is listed for all 3 of them (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 9162-9223~, March 26 at 0608, multi-carrier, multi-tones
beating over this wide 61-kHz range, gradually tapering off at the
edges and peaking at S9+25 circa 9214. What is this? Previous log:
9162-9219, March 24 at 0644 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 10024 USB, March 26 at 0606, JBA 2-way ATC contact
between plane and ground. Klingenfuß shows numerous cities in South &
Central America. Sounds like English, the lingua franca of ATC even in
Latin America (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
