Glenn Hauser logs February 9-10-11, 2025 |

Tuesday, February 11 2025
** BRAZIL [non?]. 4804.23 approx., Feb 11 at 0027, JBA carrier direct but unstable. By 0255 it`s about 4804.37. Could be local birdie. Following up report of ZYF273 reactivated on 4805:
Feb 9 at 2119: ``Dear Glenn. I've researched in many ways at 4805 AM, Rádio Difusora do Amazonas (former Rádio Difusora de Manáus) and found nothing about its reactivation by the Tropical Band. It is active in FM 96.9 MHz. I will continue to research about it! Yours sincerely, José Ronaldo Xavier, Cabedelo-PB, Brazil`` Feb 9 at 2143: ``Glenn, Brazil often comes in well into Masset. I checked 4805 last night and not even a carrier was seen. Walt Salmaniw, BC`` Feb 10 at 0059: ``I tried also all I got was a low carrier like something was their but was not making it. ron trotto-wdx4kwi, virden Illinois, Tecsun pl-880, grundig sat 750, sangean ats 909x`` Ron was the only one who reported it originally. Mon Feb 10: Possibly a one-off test? My email to the 96.9 successor still bouncing as ``mailbox full`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CHINA. 17765-17770-17775, Feb 10 at 0503, DRM noise at S9+10/20. EiBi shows CNR1 from site d = Dongfang, Hainan, at 0100-0900. And it isn`t even a jammer! SOH should go on there to keep it company. Also several mostly JBA carriers all correlating with China: 17510, 17550, 17595, 17740, 17840, 17855, 17890; also 18900, 18970; but nothing on 21 MHz (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA [and non]. 1040, Feb 10 at 0749 UT, wobbler under WHO, but not vs 870 WWL at the moment. Presumably the only listed, R. Mayabeque, Güines, 10 kW. I guess at local range it`s a huge loss, no program modulation (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 6000, Feb 10 at 0443, RHC making a comeback, English S9+30/40, modulation not very bad with some hum, but YL accent hard to understand. Now to find whether `The Mailbag Show` survive, sked before circa 0045, 0245, 0445 UT Mondays; 0030, 0230, 0430 UT Thursdays; time was always quite variable (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 7335, Feb 10 at 0451, pulse jamming against nothing since R. Martí is not there but 7355 & 7435, both of which bear some different JBA clickery, jamming or defect? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** ETHIOPIA. 6090, Feb 10 at 0445, algo JBA, probably Amhara State Radio, a bit late and should be better circa *0300. Nothing now on 6110, the other Ethiopian, Fana, both the only ones listed at these hours by EiBi (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** KURDISTAN [non]. 11525, Feb 10 at 0458, S8/9+10 of talk in unID language. EiBi shows nothing but Dengê Gel via ARMENIA and Turkish jammer after 0400. Both of them jumparound in the 11.5s, often not on same frequency (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** MEXICO. 800, Feb 10 at 0754, XEERG, for the record, *still* extreme distortion QRMing KQCV OKC. I first reported this on Sept 17, 2024! as unID, soon traced to XEERG Ojo de Agua, NL, as I explained then in great detail (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NEW ZEALAND [and non]. 17675, Feb 10 at 0501, RNZP with NZ news, finally VG again, S9+10/20, the SSOB rivaled only by S9+10/20 of DRM on 17765-17770-17775. Surprisingly several other sigs on 16m, see CHINA (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SPAIN [and non]. 12030, Mon Feb 10 at 2300, NO signal of token English from SNR, on beam to ME, off the back direct to here, to Maryland SDR, nor to UTwente. Something`s neglected at Noblejas. 9690 for NAm is VG however, news lead about anniversary of a farmers` revolt against EU restrixions. 17715 for SAm maybe JBA, not 17755 for Africa but could still be on. Note: Some editors refuse to include a NON-log such as this, in frequency order, altho that is the newsworthy aspect of it, a transmission missing which is supposed to be on! Strong Spanish however could be heard on 12050 from WEWN (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 7290 AM, Feb 10 until 0449*, QSO between W5JKO and W4KYZ, discussing lack of ``nocturnal emissions`` on 160 and 75 [sic] meters, apparently during blackout, tho had heard `TimTron`. QRZ.com shows ``W4KYZ USA flag USA, Richard A Coyne, 2038 Fawnridge Ct, The Villages, FL 32162`` but no W5JKO, wrong call? ARRL shows: ``HENNINGTON JR, MELVIN B, N5MH, 1100 S LAKE CLAIBORNE RD, PORT GIBSON, MS 391504320, Previous call sign: W5JKO, Issue Date: 05/05/2011, Expire Date: 06/01/2021, Date of Last Change: 06/02/2023 (License Status Set to Expired)`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2281 monitoring: Also confirmed Sunday February 9 at 2022 the 2000 on IRRS SW via AM Italia, 1322.998, S9 into UTwente. Also confirmed Sunday February 9 after 2100 on WRN Europe webcast. Also confirmed Sunday February 9 at 2257 the 2230 on SW Radio, Germany, 3975.003+, S8/S9 into UTwente. Also confirmed Sunday February 9 at 2330 on WRMI 7570, S9+30/45 into S Texas SDR; ALSO still simul on WRMI 7780, S9+20/35 into same. Would expect 7780 to be stronger there, closer to SW azimuth. Also confirmed UT Monday February 10 at 0030 on WRMI 7780, S9+35/40 into S Texas SDR. Also confirmed UT Monday February 10 until ending at 0526 UT on Area 51 webcast only the nominal 0400, so must have started very late at 0457. The non-JL show before 0400 kept on going, but 5130 chopped off at 0403*. Apparently he wanted and got an extra hour; unknown if this will continue; alternate weeks? Also confirmed Monday February 10 at 2031 on SW Radio, Germany, 3975.003-, S8/S9 into UTwente. Next: 0330 UT Tuesday WRMI 7780 to SW; 1400 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [also web-, phonecast; jammed?]; 1500 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [also web-, phonecast; jammed?]; 2100 UT Tuesday IRRS 1323-Italy; 0030 UT Wednesday WRMI 9395 to NNW; 0030 UT Wednesday SW Radio, Germany 3975; 2030 UT Wednesday SW Radio, Germany 3975; 2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW; 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S; 1730 UT Thursday SW Radio, Germany 3975. Thanks this week to Mike Gorniak, NM7X, Minnesota, for a contribution via PayPal to woradio at yahoo.com, and says, ``Happy New Year and Thanks, Glenn! 73, Mike Gorniak`` One may also contribute by MO or check on a US bank to Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 9395, Feb 10 at 0454, WRMI with beepery, presumably during `OTH Radio` show, sked from 0400 UT Mondays (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 4840, Feb 10 at 0712, S9+30/35 of dead air from WWCR-3 instead of TOMBS, tsk2. Wonder how many hours this lasted, sked M-F 0600-1130 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 660, Feb 10 at 0735 UT, C&W music, soon ID as KTNN Window Rock and two other towns in rotation. First noted circa 0441 when it was louder than neighbors WSM & WSCR. Obviously another night failing to go DA away from NYC, and me (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 810.578, Feb 10 at 0440 UT, het upon 810 WHB. No 9/kHz TA carriers audible now. Still there Feb 10 at 0735 UT measured 810.56 estimate on other receiver. Of course, nothing in mwoffsets this far off. Not tried to DF it yet. Not there in daytime, 1940 check. Replies in IRCA and ABDX to an advance post of this: On Mon, Feb 10, 2025 at 12:47 PM Mark Connelly <markwa1ion@aol.com> wrote: ``Will check tonight. A Cuban would not surprise me. If so, it should be "slam dunk" to here and 810 Bahamas won't be happy. Sometimes there's "wobbling" on 810 a la 870. That's not so good for Bahamas either. One way to investigate the source would be checking various online SDRs - FL, LA, TX etc. - and see who's getting it. Mark Connelly, WA1ION | South Yarmouth, MA, USA | FN41vq`` ``I had this signal back in October at my Nevada-Utah border DXpedition. So far I haven't noticed it on recordings after about 1000 UT; so could Puerto Rico be a possibility? Sunrise in Puerto Rico would have been around 1015 UT back then. 73 Tim Hall`` Unheard direct at 0005 UT Feb 11, maybe too early. Still not around 0200, nor into several Latin American and US SDRs. ** BRAZIL. 4804.3, Feb 9 at 0100, JJBBA carrier direct, even weaker than the Peruvian JBA carriers on 4810, 4820. I`m checking here because of this report Feb 8: ``I heard a Brazilian last night on 4805 khz. Man and woman with lots of IDs by man as Rádio Difusora do Amazonas at 0310 UTC on the 8th, lots fading, lost them at 0315, heard on the PL-880. Ron Trotto, WDX4KWI, Virden, Illinois`` - to which I replied:
``Wow, that 4805 station in Manáus, ZYF273 with 10/5 kW had been gone for a long time. Checking some handy WRTHs, was listed in 2016 but not 2021. Glenn`` I had not noticed any carrier around 4805 before, but had not been seeking one. After 0100, I check all available KiwiSDRs in S America and some beyond, with zero signs of any carrier circa 4805. Further research shows Amazonas station was still appearing on active-Brasil listings in 2017, but s/off time was 0100. The 2016 WRTH gave a website, which still very much exists, for a station on 96.9 FM, https://difusora24h.com/ and it does appear to be the successor station. Nothing about 4805 to be found there now, nor contact info, but I do find some email addresses via social media sites; inquiry in Brazuguese has bounced twice due to ``mailbox full``, so will keep trying into weekdays. Meanwhile everyone keep an ear or remote on 4805v! (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CANADA. 2749 USB, Feb 9 at 0720 UT, marine weather by OM voice. Again the Canadian Coast Guard site does not show any before 0740, which is VCO Sydney via Port Caledonia. Ditto dxinfocentre.com/mb.htm Nothing on 2598 USB now (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NORTH AMERICA. 11529.9, Feb 9 at 1551, JBA music S5 on signature off-frequency of pirate Hikari FM, who once claimed to be in Sonora just across from the SW corner of Arizona. Ron Howard reported: ``Here is the informative email received for my report for Jan 30 remote reception: "Thank you so much for tuning in! Yeah I have recently realized that having a good connection to ground may not be the best thing. The grounded case of the transmitter was detuning the dipole hence the signal strength issues. I have choked the ground connection and isolated the shortwave transmitter from other equipment so that should be fixed. I also have a signal on 1620 KHz but I doubt it will ever reach California. I am experimenting with it and experimenting with transmitter designs. I think It should be easier to get signal from now on, looks much better on the SDRs. Sorry I didn't realize this and fix it earlier. I had a choke on it before but It was not sufficient. The song you heard is Natsu kage or Summer Lights from the TV show AIR by Lia. One of my favorites. It is not the original version though. I am not really sure how to translate "kage"(影) into English in the context of that song. Very Best Regards," Ron, Monterey, Calif.`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U K O G B A N I. 17570-17575-17580, Feb 9 at 1548, DRM noise at S7. Re my obs under CUBA [non] that WWL is hardly heard on 870, this from Terry L Krueger: ``Glennnn (please use the donated extra “n”s for those who don’t add the second “n”): From my uneducated observations, WWL has never been the same post-Katrina. My current proximity near Ft Walton Beach, Floriduh allows it to be easily audible daytime (actually it was audible daytime in the former Clearwater location as well due to direct water path). But it’s not nearly the blaster it used to be years ago. Why?`` (Glennn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. Re my JBA carrier on 216 kHz, where the only NDB listed is CO in COncord NH: It was steady like a real signal rather than a local birdie, but Feb 9 at 0710 UT I find one on 216.7v, like a birdie (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 1951 UT February 9 _ Hard-Core-DX mailing list Hard-Core-DX@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/hard-core-dx http://www.hard-core-dx.com/
