** CHINA. 17690, Aug 16 at 1453, the OSOB and consequently the SSOB 16m, in Chinese, partly other language?, S7/S9 until 1500* timesignal and off. HFCC shows 14-15 is USAGM in Bod dialect of Tibetan, 100 kW, 77 degrees from Lampertheim, Germany, but I think this be CNR1 jammer, perhaps from E Turkistan site. Aoki shows VOA Tibetan *jammed. WWV reports: ``Solar-terrestrial indices for 15 August follow. Solar flux 131 and estimated planetary A-index 6. The estimated planetary K-index at 1500 UTC on 16 August was 1. Space weather for the past 24 hours has been moderate. Radio blackouts reaching the R2 level occurred. Space weather for the next 24 hours is predicted to be minor. Geomagnetic storms reaching the G1 level are likely.`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. 11670, Aug 16 at 0640, JBA signal suspected to be overrun again of RHC: yes, I can barely match it to the bigsig in English still on 6165 only. Ivo Ivanov, Observer, Bulgaria, also reports: ``Radio Habana Cuba in English after 06 UT on unscheduled 11670 kHz via Bauta, August 16 from 0600 on 11670 BAU 100 kW / 130 deg to SoAm English in A-22 is till 0400 UTC. Good signal via SDR Frostburg MD. https://swldxbulgaria.blogspot.com/2022/08/rhc-in-english-after-06ut-on.html Something`s always wrong at Radio Habana Cuba and Bauta tx center`` I don`t think 11670 is supposed to be in English before 0400 either, rather Spanish. Of course, website not updated since Nov 17, 2020! https://www.radiohc.cu/de-interes/frecuencias Showing 11670 in Spanish to Rio de Janeiro [sic] at 24:00[sic]-05:00. The other side: ``READ TODAY THE CUBA OF TOMORROW August 16, 2022 OPINION The Fire in Matanzas: Going Out, or Just Beginning? Accepting that the litany of disasters that Cuba is enduring is a result of chance would mean letting Díaz-Canel off the hook, when, in reality, it is a symptom of a failed system dragging a country towards its ruin. RAFAELA CRUZ | La Habana [caption:] Fuel tanks burned in the Matanzas fire. (H. López/Facebook) A plane crashes with 113 people on board; a tornado wipes out hundreds of homes, many of which would have survived if they had not been in such precarious condition; a balcony collapses, killing three girls; a hotel explodes, taking 47 lives; energy generation plants fail daily, and one of its most important facilities burns down; and, in Matanzas, the worst fire in Cuban history frightens everyone. Not holding Díaz-Canel responsible for this state of affairs would mean accepting that this series of disasters is a question of chance, when, in reality, it is a symptom of a failed system dragging a country towards collapse. It was not really lightning that set fire to the Matanzas Supertanker Base, but rather the failure of its safety systems; probably because, like everything else in Cuba, they are in dreadful condition due to a lack of maintenance and technological obsolescence. While there is no proof of this, we know that of the 2,606 megawatts (MW) that the Energy Revolution should generate, in 2021 745 MW were out of service due to a lack of maintenance, and another 497 MW were about to be due to equipment exceeding their operating cycle. If this is how they treat the commander's last "feat," what can we expect regarding the maintenance of everything else? ...`` https://diariodecuba.com/cuba/1660577868_41600.html (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** EGYPT. 9439.995+, Aug 16 at 2200, R. Cairo news theme recognizable but English unreadable vs huge humwhine and distortion, S9+20/35 into UTwente. Something`s always egregious in Egypt (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA. RF 18, Aug 16 at 0500*, KOPX OKC goes off the air. When there is nothing else of interest, I often run one of my four TVs on antenna with Newsy which is virtual 62-7 and never encabled; but seldom am I motivated axually to listen to it. Soon find that KOPX main channel, the only one on Optimum/Suddenlink cable, ch 22, is missing, so they must also be relying on an off-air pickup. Or not even anything by fibreoptic from studio to headend. Back on by next check after 1500. Probably planned maintenance (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR) ** TURKEY. 9830.002+, Aug 16 at 2200, VOT on today and VG modulation, English sked and news, S9+35/45 into UTwente. 2215 `Review of the Tuerkiyeish Press`. 2217 `Weekly Commentary`, by someone from American University, Kabul? by heavily accented YL. No competition from unreadable Cairo, and since it`s Tuesday, no Englishable from España (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** UKRAINE [non]. 7730, August 16 at 0500, WRMI brings up UR1 relay but stays in UU until 0504 `Ukraine: Security Issue` in English finally starts, by the fast-talking heavily-accented OM. I decide to listen to it later online http://ukr.radio/images/ckeditor/files/files/ENG_NEWS_15_08_22.mp3 where one can play it at three-quarter or even half-speed, and may back it up if needed to copy some topix correctly. Including: For Aug 15, Day 173 of full scale war. Russia lost almost 44K fighters, 4K tanx, 195 helicopters, etc. U army in dire need of artillery and aviation reinforcements. U destroyed all bridges over Dniepr in Kherson, controlling all transport arteries, causing Russian forces to flee. Kharkiv under massive attack, apartment block, children`s playground, shelled. Homes near border need repairs before winter (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2151 monitoring: confirmed UT Tuesday August 16 at 0030 on WRMI 9395, S9/+15 into Maryland SDR; between the ID and WOR some extraneous audio intruded: ``...world in turmoil...`` Next: 2230 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [jammed by Cuba] 2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW 2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 5950 to NNW [last week, but not any more?] 1030 UT Wednesday WRMI 5850 to NW 2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW 0030 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html A noncommercial service for which financial support is appreciated to Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702, by money order or check on a US bank. Or via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds, to woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 9955, Tue Aug 16 at 1448 check, this WRMI is off again like yesterday, contrary to schedule; while 9395 & 9455 are on and audible. Bodes ill for WOR Friday at 1430 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 4840, Tue Aug 16 at 0654, S9+30 of dead air on WWCR-3, supposed to be Brother-Scaring. This happens again and again late at night, no one paying attention at 1300 WWCR Avenue, fortunately (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 2222 UT August 16 _ Hard-Core-DX mailing list Hard-Core-DX@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/hard-core-dx http://www.hard-core-dx.com/

Tuesday, August 16 2022
** CUBA. 11670, Aug 15 at 0628, S4/S5 of dead air, trace of modulation. Based on previous behavior, strongly suspect it`s RHC, where something`s always wrong; altho other continents are also audible nearby such as 11700 France, 11735 Korea North (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** INDIA. 13710, Aug 15 at 0133, AIR with special coverage of Independence Day ceremonies from Red Fort: first tried Kuwait remote but hardly any signal; then to Vadodra SDR in India which I thought might be in skip zone from Bengaluru. Tnx to advance notice from Alokesh Gupta that 13710 would be in English but mostly it is not. I then posted to the WOR iog: ``At risk of spoiling your SWLing, there is also video here, audio partly in English: https://prasarbharati.gov.in/live-tv/ For some amusement, turn on the auto-generated English captions while Modi is speaking Hindi => gobbledygook. Also the clock in LR corner is wrong for some world cities from Paris to San Francisco...`` It has Paris on UT+1 instead of 2; New York & SF are both stuck at some other certain time to the second. Before Modi started his 82-minute speech, as on TV stream, W in English and M in Hindi took turns describing the scene, quite a visual spectacle. Huge audience seated outside with no shade as the morning sun climbed higher and higher, most of them in heavy clothing. As he spoke, checked 13710 again, and there was no simultaneous English translation, nor any available on TV. Every so often, the sometimes hilarious totally off-topic wacky captions would include something that may have applied to India. Apparently the bot was listening to the original Hindi and instead of translating it, displaying English terms resembling the Hindi syllables. Modi finally finished about 0330 but TV coverage continued to 0350 with huge bilingual credit roll. Meanwhile, 13710 had been turned off, not sure when (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NORTH AMERICA. 6954 USB, Aug 15 at 0046, only pirate with a bit of jazz? into SSTV beepery, S6/S8 vs HSNL; 0049 resume same music, soul/rock? cut off at 0056 with no ID or any voice announcement. At slightly earlier times, these say it`s Wasteland Radio: https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,100699.0.html as IDed on fuzzy SSTV, but finally a sharp, studio? copy (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA. 97.3, Aug 15 at 1927 UT, quick bandscan on caradio in case Es MUF ascend: no, but hit something here from ``Catholic Radio`` plugging stuff relating to ``Blessed Stanley Rother``, i.e. the martyred GM of LV de Atitlán, Guatemala, 2390 -- the Okarche, Okie proto-saint, so got to be KKNG-FM, the 1 kW OKCR in Blanchard. Quickly fades, so maybe airplane scatter or just a GW fluke (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR) ** ROMANIA. 7420, UT Mon Aug 15 at 0045, S9+10/20 of nice folk music on RRI Romanian-language service; while 7375 in English talk rates the same but sounds weaker (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SPAIN. Re my Aug 10 report, Richard Langley and Alan Roe say it must have been the Jeff Healey Band, from Canada, not Joe Healy. Yes, reviewing my original scribble, it was Jeff, not Joe (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 9830, Aug 15 at 2226, VOT is on VG, repeating the advice about treatment, remedies, for stinky feet (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** UKRAINE [non]. 7730, August 15 at 0500-0507, UR1 via WRMI, `Ukraine: Security Issue` for Aug 14 = Day 172 of Putin`s war. Again it`s the accented YL who speaks too fast, including: more shelling; 16 cruise missiles in the Black Sea; Russia has lost 43,500 soldiers, 10,000 military equipments; NY Times says Ukraine is getting new stronger, long-range weapons, changing tactix; raising funds for 200 drones; Russia using captured foreigners as hostages (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2151 monitoring: confirmed Sunday August 14 at 2001 underway on AM Italia, 1323 kHz, S9+5/15 into nearby SDR. Not confirmed, Sunday August 14 at 2230 on WRMI 5950 where it has been appearing for months despite being replaced by something else on skedgrid. Not that either, but now open carrier/dead air at S9+10/20 into Georgia SDR; I believe a gospel huxter had just finished. Dead air remains until 2255 starts IS & ID loop, to start at ``top of hour``, tho sked shows 5950 should begin with System L at 2100, and a new hour of TOMBS daily at 2200-2300. Meanwhile, 5850 is also dead air at 2230, while all other 5, 7 and 9 MHz frequencies are active. 5850 was supposed to start at 2200. Checked next day at 2255 Aug 15, 5950 is in TOM but not BS himself, // 9455 & 15770, so that will apparently rule out any more WORs at 2230. What about 2330 on 5950, scheduled as `Challenge` for an hour daily from 2300, but last Tuesday WOR was really heard at 2330? Is it really a 60-minute show? Apparently, on Aug 15 it keeps playing past 2330, so WOR unlikely on Tue Aug 16, but should still be on 9395 at that hour. Also confirmed UT Monday August 15 at 0030 on WRMI 7780, S5/S7 noisy into Georgia SDR, better S7/S9 into Maryland. Direct at 0044? S7/S9 but VP including high storm noise level. Also confirmed UT Monday August 15 at 0300 on Area 51 via WBCQ 6160 minus 63 Hz into PEI SDR = 6159.937, S8.
