U S A. 9330.185V, Aug 27 at 2222, WLCR/WBCQ is S9/+10 in English,
and slightly wavering, furthest off-frequency yet. I`m no expert on
transmitters or their drivers, but what I don`t get is why they don`t
come with ``fine-tuning`` capability, just like receivers. Of course
someop would still have to be responsible for keeping them zeroed. Or

DRM plans after last year`s successful tests of low power but high

** CHINA. 13020 & 13530, Aug 30 at 1448, VP CNR1 jammers found only
here in the 13s (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) see also EAST TURKISTAN

** CUBA. 6060 & 6165, Aug 30 at 0621, RHC English only here, but no
leapfrog audible on 6270, in case they be simulsited. Something`s
always wrong at RHC. 5040 still on, in Spanish (Glenn Hauser, OK,

** EAST TURKISTAN [and non]. 7265, Aug 30 at 1835 first noted as
splash against 7255 tuned at Canary SDR for absent Nigeria: VG
S9+10/20 of really neat Chinese folk/romantic songs, a couple brief
announcements sound slightly Slavic, and Bulgarian is scheduled at
1830-1900 only via Urumqi, land of imperialist ChiCom genocide against
Uyghurs and other Moslems. So another language service replaced by
music. 1855 closing announcement to 1857* uncovering BBC in English
via MADAGASCAR scheduled 1700-2000 but not a trace of it while CRI was

** EGYPT 9439.995, Aug 29 at 2157, no signal from R. Cairo into
Maryland SDR, nor later on UTwente check. Something`s always egregious

7254.9325, Aug 30 at 1757, VON, S8/S9+10 vs high storm noise level
into Canary Islands SDR. 1758 drumming and English announcement, 1800
timesignal and off immediately, as if deliberate rather than a
failure. Had been staying for another hour in English and past 1900
into Fulfulde vs ChiCom QRM. 1832 still off. But 1859 recheck is back
on in time to collide with CRI carrier, 1900 Turkish, way under ChiCom
signal but enough to mar it with a LAH (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6933 USB, Aug 30 at 0112, noises, laughing SFX, 0130
still S8/S9. Many logs here say it`s Zeeky with Vermont Public Radio

** OKLAHOMA. 93.3, Aug 29 circa 2030 UT as I am driving around Enid,
``Jake``, KJKE, 100 kW country station is getting CCI from sports
talk, within which is an ad with a recognizable Stillwater address
mentioning 6th Avenue, Perkins Road. What? We already have SW stations
on 93.7 and 94.3. KJKE rimshots OKC from Newcastle which is closer to
Norman and hardly has a solid signal here, but the QRM is not heard
before. Finally, a ``Triple Play Sports Radio`` slogan. Which is on
KOSB 105.1 Perry, KOKP 1020 Perry and KOKB 1580 Blackwell. Make that
Quadruple? WTFDA FMDB shows this is not in SW but the FM side of
further 1580 KOKB Blackwell, a mere 250-watt translator, K227DK. Yet
it`s almost as strong as KJKE, a bit of tropo boost? Note distances
below.

Make that Quintuple, as they have another translator in Stillwater
itself, which I don`t hear, 93.1 K226CW with only 170 watts; and which
they hardly need with near-local signals from the Perrys. Not that I
care, but while normally simulcasting, they can split three-ways when
stupid ballgames are simultaneous in the three towns, such as Friday
night HSFB? Not that I care about country KJKE getting QRMed; I just
do care about one more impediment to real FM DX. Enid/Blackwell 70 km
= 44 mi; Enid/Newcastle 129 km = 80 mi, a lot closer than the one in
NSW, 107X further, great circly, that is, considerably less direct
thru the Earth (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** SPAIN. 17855 & 11940, Mon Aug 29 at 2158, no signals from REE into
Maryland SDR, so forget NAm & SAm, but 15520 for ME is good S9+5 off
the back with odesong to matadores, in time for 2200 token English:
after Justin`s news, Amy`s feature is interviews with members of a
Cirque du Soleil-like troop of acrobats in Alicante, ``Luzvia`` or
something like that explained as a combo of luz and lluvia = light and
rain. During which at 2224 I check UTwente which agrees 17855 & 11940
are off, 15520 not so good but 11670 is also on. Something`s always

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2153 monitoring: ``I was sitting
outdoors in Tuscany last night [Sunday August 28], scanning through
the crowded medium wave dial on my radio around 2026 UTC. That's when
I heard a voice in English at 1323 kHz. Lo and behold, it was Glenn
Hauser's voice! It turned out I had tuned in the final minutes of
"World of Radio" airing on IRRS, which broadcasts about 250 kilometers
from where I'm vacationing this week. Eric Fetters-Walp``

We have made no such arrangement, but it seems WOR can be reached via
Alexa. It was missing for a while, Amazon glitch? Tim Hendel says:

** VATICAN [non?]. 17615, Aug 30 at 1526, surprised to find VP signal,
YL in English, S7/S9 direct, something about radio stations. Hardly
anything else on band except 17630 CRI/Mali. Soon choral music; from
1546 I`m on UTwente where it`s better, now obviously Christian. Only
thing in EiBi & Aoki, never HFCC, is Sa`udi HQS in Arabic at 13-16! No
way, no sign of that, but I recall more than a sesquidecade ago, BSKSA
did have English on SW around this time. 1550 it`s RCC, as the pope is
singing in Latin, mixed with narration spoken play-by-play or
translation. Nothing in HFCC, Aoki or EiBi about VR on 17615 anywhen.
Must be a special event. At 1553 I check the website and find this
along with same live on YT: ``started 29 minutes ago: From St. Peter's
Basilica, Holy Mass presided over by Pope Francis with the new
Cardinals``. By 1611 QRM from heavy splatter out of 17600 which must
have just come on, Algeria. I let it run anyway, 1625 choral music
until Vatican off at 1647*. Site? Maybe SMG but not surprised if
Madagascar, as only other 16m sig was out of Africa, Mali (Glenn
